I can think of quite a few things it could stand for but I doubt if any of them are right.

I like the odd ranty thread, attempting to calm it down or add some way to the conversation can be strangely satisfying. It can feel quite dangerous to post amongst some really ranty people with very extreme views. Living life on the edge - but not quite! Especially good then if it all ends on a nice note. You can really find a lot about people's attitudes and motivations behind some of the things they do and say that you might have been baffled by previously. But then I'm a very nosy, kind of people watching person myself!

I like the fun threads too though.

They seem to get into every thread and derail it totally by getting all PO about an innocent comment the OP has made.
Such as the Irish thread in Chat yesterday (sorry, I know it's bad form to bring another thread into it, but it does rather illustrate the point nicely).
