What has happened to Body Shop?

Yes I know it was sold off a long time ago but it's unrecognisable in terms of products and prices. Half of the stuff I used to buy years ago like their body butter and perfume oil have really gone up in price. The perfume oil must have changed ingredients as the smell is so weak compared to a few years ago. Their makeup is Mac prices.

The sale stuff are rubbish and still expensive.

Does anyone here still shop there?

I've not been in one for years. It seems to be full of stuff that people could well do without. And I think that's the problem. I agree that Lush has done what they do but better. But on the other hand I like going in Lush but I don't buy much.

wibblyjelly · 05/01/2014 16:48

I used to love their tangerine beer shampoo...

squoosh · 05/01/2014 16:50

Aww I'm sad to hear the perfume bar is no longer.

Our school stank of White Musk, White Musk and more White Musk.

squoosh · 05/01/2014 16:50

I despise Lush, stinks to high bloody heaven!

Hedgehead · 05/01/2014 16:51

I'll tell you what's happened to it... L'oreal now owns it.

Meglet · 05/01/2014 16:52

IIRC the original Lush team used to design products for the Body Shop, but they split and formed cosmetics to go. The odd BS fragrance appears in Lush.

Now if someone could bring back Ice Blue shampoo and Raspberry Ripple shower gel I'd be happy.

Their Hemp Hand cream is nice stuff though.

almapudden · 05/01/2014 16:52

I spent 1996 smelling of Dewberry. I haven't been in a Bodyshop for years, but my mum did buy me some nice rose-scented hand cream from there this Christmas.

Bathsheba · 05/01/2014 16:58

The Body shop used to have huge ranged of things....now its all body butter. 1000 different fragrances of body butter.

I can't use body butter.

I still tend to do a Christmas order as they tend to have a "party" at my daughter's rainbows and I really like their christmas flavour shower gels, but its a heckof a lot of body butter and lotion to get through...

saintsulpice · 05/01/2014 17:05

It's not even the same body butter. Awful stuff!

thisismyYuleTimenickname · 05/01/2014 17:08

Goddammit Lush not this shit again! mitheringsfrommorningside.wordpress.com/2013/07/08/the-smell-of-bullshit-part-22-sexual-harassment-is-part-of-the-job/#comments
The entire blog is full of "goddamit Lush" things.
Where should I buy nice bath stuff now...

Damnautocorrect · 05/01/2014 17:08

Heather shimmer lipstick bodyshop cream cakey orange foundation and dewberry perfume. Oh and camomile shampoo
Ahhhh school days!

AmberLeaf · 05/01/2014 17:09

Oh yes, raspberry ripple shower gel!

You can still get bath pearls [in other shops/online] I used to love those, waiting for it to melt, or popping one and getting oil up the wall Blush

Morello cherry lip balm was delicious.

Satsuma/Tangerine? range reminds me of when I had my first baby, I had a bar of the soap and some shower gel in my hospital bag.

MacaYoniandCheese · 05/01/2014 17:11

The body shop is pointless now when you can buy better similar products at more reasonable prices at your local Boots-type pharmacy. In Canada we also have a shop called 'Bath and Body Works' that is all the rage with the teen set. Everything is tiny, cheap and made from environmentally dubious materials. The store is always busy and smells like chemicals that are capable of triggering a migraine.

Only1scoop · 05/01/2014 17:13

Used to love all the original creams in the bottles with the green labels....the pink peppermint foot cream....vanilla body lotion.... Just so not the same these days ....

saintsulpice · 05/01/2014 17:13

DH was cross after going into Lush with DC. They were followed all around the shop, trying to sell to (10 yr old) dd after DH had declined help. They do tend to pounce as you enter the shop, bit like Body Shop

SoonToBeSix · 05/01/2014 17:15

I stopped going once the discontinued dewberry , I loved it.

PrimalLass · 05/01/2014 17:16

The strawberry body shampoo was the best thing ever for teenage acne.

Floppityflop · 05/01/2014 17:18

I loved the satsuma / tangerine stuff too. And everyone used to wear white musk or dewberry at school. I am nostalgicising because the late 80s / early 90s were pretty rubbish apart from the Body Shop and DMs. But Beauty Without Cruelty had better make-up. Anyone know where you can get that?

TOADfan · 05/01/2014 17:21

I love body shop. I spend way too much money in the place. I do want a bath and body works though in the uk the candles seem great.

I thought they were sold to l'Oreal after Anita had passed away, but a couple of posts on here make me think maybe that's wrong, was she around when the deal was done?

Deal was done in 2006 by Anita.

Interview justifying herself can be found [[
www.theguardian.com/business/2006/nov/03/ethicalliving.environment here]]

Didn't wash with me.

AdventColander · 05/01/2014 17:36

Ah yes dewberry - the smell of the 90s! Blush

fhdl34 · 05/01/2014 17:40

I buy 2 things from there, their defining hair cream and vit e face cream, and I always use at least a 40% off voucher as there is almost always one to be found online

Pigsmummy · 05/01/2014 17:43

As a greasy teen I loved their ice blue shampoo. I miss the body shop. They used to rock. RIP Anita (who was very sorted and cool).

thisismyYuleTimenickname · 05/01/2014 17:44

Loved dewberry too Grin
Almost everything makes me sneeze these days...perhaps I used too many weird, scented bath products in my youth, and am now allergic?

RhondaJean · 05/01/2014 17:58

I've just been into our local one today to be told by the saleswoman (as a still frequent flier) that it is shutting on 18th.

It's not what it was true, but I love the coconut range, smells like bounty bars, and the tea tree skin stuff is good for DDs acne, mil loves the vitamin e stuff, dd2 is a lip balm fan. If you buy in sales and use a discount card it work out quite good, I had a £4 lip balm a £6 conditioner and a £13 body scrub for £6.70 today.
