What has happened to Body Shop?

Yes I know it was sold off a long time ago but it's unrecognisable in terms of products and prices. Half of the stuff I used to buy years ago like their body butter and perfume oil have really gone up in price. The perfume oil must have changed ingredients as the smell is so weak compared to a few years ago. Their makeup is Mac prices.

The sale stuff are rubbish and still expensive.

Does anyone here still shop there?

Their coconut oil shampoo was gorgeous back in the day. Camomile shampoo was lovely, too. Rose musk - yes! One of my first ever perfumes. I used to colour my hair with their henna kits, too. Sigh . Never go in there now, it's unrecognizable. (am 43)

I grew up with bodyshop in the early 90s.

I don't remember it being that cheap even then. Confused
maybe my pocket money was too low

It's a shame there isn't anywhere with the 1990s Body Shop ethics on the high street anymore.

IneedAsockamnesty · 05/01/2014 16:13

Can you even still buy bath pearls?

confuddledDOTcom · 05/01/2014 16:16

i think they lost something other than respect and the nestle boycotters when they sold up and sold out.

I'd rather use lush.

thisismyYuleTimenickname · 05/01/2014 16:18

I tried to find bath pearls for a Christmas present but couldn't find them anywhere!

saintsulpice · 05/01/2014 16:18

It used to be the place to buy gifts for friends and family.

They stopped henna range years ago. Said it was no longer cruelty free so they stopped selling (so said member of staff

JanetAndRoy · 05/01/2014 16:18

The smell of Ice Blue shampoo immediately transports me back to 1992. which was the last time I shopped there

Headlikeafuckingorange · 05/01/2014 16:18

The constant sales have really cheapened the brand. I really rate the cleansing oil balm but would never by it full price when there is inevitably a 50% discount going round. I live in a small town and am amazed the shop is still open tbh, there's never anyone in there.

I miss the bath pearls and the animal soaps.

On a side note, I really think Lush have gone downhill in recent years too.

Headlikeafuckingorange · 05/01/2014 16:18

Buy it ffs

saintsulpice · 05/01/2014 16:19

I got bath pearls for Christmas. They were from somewhere dull (sorry!) like M & S

FunnyLittleFrog · 05/01/2014 16:19

We used to call the Dewberry perfume Dewsbury. Grin

Loved those blotting papers for oily skin and the perfume bar.

Floppityflop · 05/01/2014 16:20

Yves Rocher is more like the Body Shop used to be but I don't know whether they have any actual shops in the UK. They have fizzy bath cubes and those bath pearls still!

fedup21 · 05/01/2014 16:22

I reckon my whole (all girls) school wore Dewberry in 1990-every corridor reeked of the stuff!

WeeNoggi · 05/01/2014 16:23

I have been into a couple of stores recently hoping to find SLS free products. Absolutely zip. And the other products had alcohol in them so no use to me. There are a lot of other companies taking over their market with good quality, ethically made products free of nasty chemicals.

I agree with other posters that they cant stay in business much longer but might explain why they're opening store after store across SE Asia where their branding is quite different. Not much emphasis on ethics......

thisismyYuleTimenickname · 05/01/2014 16:24

I wonder why bath pearls went out of fashion.

bordellosboheme · 05/01/2014 16:25

I would choose lush every time over bs. They've really sold out IMHO.

madhairday · 05/01/2014 16:26

I loved Dewberry and Ananya back in the day, no doubt would find them vile now. Bath pearls and a lovely little lip balm called morello cherry which they stopped doing years back.

It's definitely gone downhill, our local one is always empty and a bit dingy. I just don't like their stuff anymore. I used to love all those animals in danger soaps and little bags.

They've sold out to nestle and lost a lot of customers because they no longer have the USP they began with.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 05/01/2014 16:34

I thought they were sold to l'Oreal after Anita had passed away, but a couple of posts on here make me think maybe that's wrong, was she around when the deal was done?

VikingVagine · 05/01/2014 16:35

I bought a bottle of Ananya shower gel about 8 years ago, just before it was stopped, it still smelt lovely, wish I could get some more. Our local body shop closed down, I'm guessing it wasn't doing too well since Lush opened a few streets away.

Loved the Japanese washing grains too!

thisismyYuleTimenickname · 05/01/2014 16:35

I don't like Lush anymore either. Expensive, annoying staff, and sexist marketing stunts.

gaggiagirl · 05/01/2014 16:39

They did the animal soaps a few years ago for a limited time. They sold out very quickly.

PurpleJellyDisc · 05/01/2014 16:40

The worst thing is that Anita was the one who sold up. I know she was ill but it was beyond the pale to sell to L'oreal.

PurpleJellyDisc · 05/01/2014 16:42

I haven't had anything from lush for a couple of years. The kids bought me some bath cake stuff and it smells really chemically and nasty. Bet it wasn't cheap either.

LizzieVereker · 05/01/2014 16:43

I loved their Roma perfume. I would pay a lot for a bottle of that now, it would remind me of a very happy occasion.

TerraNotSoFirma · 05/01/2014 16:44

I used to work for the body shop and am sad to see what it has become......and yes, the perfume bar WAS a bitch to clean.
