To be utterly disgusted by this

Have NC.

A relative used to work for a well known charity shop, as did relatives partner. Neither work there now as have moved on to other employment.

Whilst there they stockpiled anything that could possibly be worth anything (designer label clothes, shoes, bags, scarves, etc etc) and obviously quite a lot of it and for the past few months have been selling it to make money for themselves.

I'm disgusted. People donated stuff in good faith and it has in effect been 'stolen'

Iam disgusted.

Are you sure they didn't pay for the things at the going rate in the charity shop?

WorraLiberty · 02/01/2014 20:44

How do you know they didn't pay for it?

Heartbrokenmum73 · 02/01/2014 20:45

This sounds very familiar...

Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 20:46

Relative told me, they had been taking anything that may be worth something. I didn't know till today and I'm fuming. Its stealing.

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 02/01/2014 20:47

Do something about it then.

MelanieCheeks · 02/01/2014 20:48

It's not acceptable behaviour, if this in fact what has happened.

What can you do about it?

Upcycled · 02/01/2014 20:48

How did they manage to steal it, were they working alone?
Where did they sell it?

NorthernLebkuchen · 02/01/2014 20:48

There's no 'in effect' The donations HAVE been stolen. You should call the police.

Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 20:49

What can I do? Its my word against theirs and months since they left their jobs. They will deny it. I cannot believe they could do it they arent exactly penniless and desperate they seem to think as the job was hard work that they are justified.

OP posts:
Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 20:50

They worked at the same shop and 'sorted' donations apparently after closing time and took whatever they wanted Sad

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 02/01/2014 20:51

You're not an expert in crime investigation. Report the theft and let someone else sort out the evidence needed.

MelanieCheeks · 02/01/2014 20:51

Ok, so they did a bad thing. It was on the past and you can't make it right.

I can understand that you feel annoyed- do you have any contact still with them?

Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 20:52

Apparently sold to friends/car boots and eBay.

OP posts:
Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 20:54

Its just so sad as a lot of the things get donated apparently as part of house clearances as part of the persons wishes. To then have those things taken and the proceeds to not go to that persons chosen charity is horrid.

ShatnersBassoon · 02/01/2014 20:56

Report them. No point being sentimental about it.

HorsePetal · 02/01/2014 21:02

My sister in law does this - but she pays for it. She gets a fairly hefty staff discount (which I suppose is only fair).

She is quite open about it and other staff members do it too.

Are you sure she isn't paying for it first?

If you think she isn't then you might want to have a quiet word with her about her thieving?

Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 21:05

No they did not pay for it and think its funny.

OP posts:
lapetitesiren · 02/01/2014 21:05

This is scandelous and immoral. Report it. They will probably not get much more than a police interview , maybe a caution if they confess but examples need to be made. People donate for a worthy cause not to line the pockets of petty thieves posingbas charity workers.

lapetitesiren · 02/01/2014 21:06

Posing as...

WorraLiberty · 02/01/2014 21:09

Relative told me, they had been taking anything that may be worth something. I didn't know till today and I'm fuming. Its stealing.

And your relative knew this because?

WorraLiberty · 02/01/2014 21:10

Wait, a different relative or the thieving one?

Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 21:11

The relative is the person who has been taking sorry I probably didn't make that clear. They told me themselves when I asked where they had got all this 'stuff'

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 02/01/2014 21:13

Report.

Ebay will have records of things they have sold.

Madambossyboots · 02/01/2014 21:14

This kind of thing always puts me off giving.

Howlowcanyouget · 02/01/2014 21:16

I will, but even with records (and I know EXACTLY what they have sold on there as saw most of it today) how would they ever prove where they got it. They ran the shop and it was months ago, wish I'd known when they actually worked there and it would have been easier to get them 'caught'
