The swimming pool at the end of S1/beginning of S2 is indeed in Bristol. It was my local pool when I was growing up, Bristol South. I nearly fell of my chair when I realised why it looked so familiar
The bonfire scenes in Ep1 last week were filmed in Clifton. I seem to recall Moffat or Gatiss saying that the reason they use Cardiff is because they have a lot of buildings that look like London (housing, etc) but it costs a fraction of the price to use them as sets.
