Of course it's out of character fruity - it was fanfic. I laughed along with DH about how witty it was to show that we were in a fantasy scenario by having him do something so ridiculously out of character, whilst totally swooning inwardly. Which is presumably exactly the effect they were aiming for the cake having/eating bastards.
