Friends of ours are due their first baby any day soon. They've sent a email and announced the sex and said that they will announce the name when baby is born.

BUT

They've also the name 'will surprise everyone' and 'we'd appreciate it if you don't make any comments that aren't positive- this is our decision'.

What the fuck have they named this child? I am DYING to know. It's just unfair!

Or indeed Tiberius.

It's going to be one of those awful but perfectly plain boy's names you think why would you ever choose that? Any of the Derek, Clive, Kevin, Nigel, Trevor, Norman normal names.

Lovecat · 02/01/2014 02:06

I have just spat tea at "Pob" :o

SIL made a similar announcement prior to her second-born, as apparently we'd all "ruined" her first choice of name for her PFB with comments (it was Amber; subtle-as-a-brick-MIL had commented 'why would you name the child after a traffic light?').

Unfortunately she couldn't keep it to herself and told us she was undecided between three names, one of which was Hadley. DH just blundered in with 'oh, like the bloke off Spandau Ballet?' and got thunderous looks. The second choice name was Che. As she's a DM reader I was slightly surprised by this and said so, turned out she was thinking of Chay Blyth but didn't know how to spell it... and was appalled to learn of the existence of Che Guevara. The third choice was used in the end...

She kept schtum over the third child's name. We had a phone call from MIL after the birth asking why we thought SIL had named the child after an American gangster...

If your friends' family are anything like the rotten bastards that we were then it's probably not surprising they don't want to let on first... :o

PotsofGold · 02/01/2014 02:44

Spock?

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/01/2014 02:52

What's wrong with Taliesin? It's just a Welsh name.

Caitlin17 · 02/01/2014 02:56

Taliesin is lovely if possibly a tad impractical.

PotsofGold · 02/01/2014 02:57

Or Horatio-Montgomery-St John-Gideon-Whereismyhorse-Bartholemew Harrington-Carrington-Smythe

MummyBeerest · 02/01/2014 04:27

My guess is it'll be something not that unique. Or it'll be very "yooneek."

Like an ex-coworker who announced her baby-to-be's name Brook-Lyn. She has a friend who's daughter is named Brooklyn.

But there's a hyphen, people. It's original.

Either way...marked place. I am mildly obsessed with names for no good reason.

CheerfulYank · 02/01/2014 04:53

My money's on Bear. Or Eugene.

I love wild card namers. I have a friend with a Phoenix and a Clover who just had a little boy named...

....Decker.

LilyTheSavage · 02/01/2014 05:14

About twenty years ago my mum delivered a baby who was named Barry Geronimo Smith. I still giggle about it.

RudolphtheRedknowsraindear · 02/01/2014 07:34

Obidiah?
If he's their 1st DS, he could be Obi-1!

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 02/01/2014 07:37

Nice one Rudolph - have just spat tea all over my keyboard.

RubyGoat · 02/01/2014 07:52

Reginald Arbuthnot. DH wanted to call DD this if she had been a boy. I made unspecified threats & he backed down a bit. He then announced Luke was a good name. (he's a StarWars nut)

Moln · 02/01/2014 07:57

I've an issue here, in you OP you said it was "any day now" then you reveal, only when pressed, it's actually the end of January, the END. That's fraud surely, or at the very least cruel and unusual.

I'm going to offer the following as my guesses

Kermit
Optimus

baskingseals · 02/01/2014 08:01

Danger

ThePearShapedToad · 02/01/2014 08:14
