Friends of ours are due their first baby any day soon. They've sent a email and announced the sex and said that they will announce the name when baby is born.

BUT

They've also the name 'will surprise everyone' and 'we'd appreciate it if you don't make any comments that aren't positive- this is our decision'.

What the fuck have they named this child? I am DYING to know. It's just unfair!

YouTheCat · 01/01/2014 14:46

Might be a Tyrion then? Or a Lannister? Or a Bran? Grin

sapfu · 01/01/2014 14:48

Yup, it'll be John or Mark.

In which case you say 'well it's a lovely name but I feel you led us all to believe his name was going to be interesting or unusual.'

Actually you have to say that, and that you know 4 others in your street, even if they've called him @sudfk9'4gjae!!! (pronounced 'John')

HyvaPaiva · 01/01/2014 14:48

If you pre-empt that people will comment negatively about your baby's name isn't that the same as thinking negatively about it yourself?

If you were in love with the name and felt it was the perfect choice for your child, you wouldn't even think that people would comment negatively. The name would be so perfect to you that you wouldn't see potential for bad comments. That suggests they've called him a certain name to purposely be 'different' or 'out there' rather than because they adore the name. It sounds like it's all about them.

It's also super egocentric to imagine other people will be so very concerned by the name choice.

Rosencrantz · 01/01/2014 14:49

Shamelessly marking place. I wanna hear the name!

wetaugust · 01/01/2014 14:52

Some people are stupidly precious about this whole name thing.

I didn't know my DCs sex pre-delivery so had no names and took well over a week to find one. Didn't feel the need to make an announcement about it either.

Self-obsessed I think.

thankfeckitschrismas · 01/01/2014 14:57

maybe the mum is on MN and knows that we all comment shamelessly on names cloaked by the privacy of tinternet

maybe she loves it but knows that we will all comment on here, but not necessarily in rl

or else she has been commenting on other peoples names and thats why she feels people will comment on hers

Anniegetyourgun · 01/01/2014 15:02

It's Pubert, isn't it? (classical reference)

itsSantanaLopez · 01/01/2014 15:04

Pubert was in the Addams Family, wasn't he?

OP posts:
WaitMonkey · 01/01/2014 15:07

When is he due ? I can't wait. Please say, tomorrow.

Anniegetyourgun · 01/01/2014 15:07

Yup. Perhaps if your friends' baby has a cute little moustache they might be persuaded.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 01/01/2014 15:08
