Friends of ours are due their first baby any day soon. They've sent a email and announced the sex and said that they will announce the name when baby is born.

BUT

They've also the name 'will surprise everyone' and 'we'd appreciate it if you don't make any comments that aren't positive- this is our decision'.

What the fuck have they named this child? I am DYING to know. It's just unfair!

Send them a curry round tonight - I NEED to know the name too now!

YouTheCat · 01/01/2014 14:36

What sex is it? Then we can speculate wildly. Grin

itsSantanaLopez · 01/01/2014 14:37

It's a boy!

It almost sounds as though they are giving a name that is not thinking of the child, just themselves if they think people will react negatively to it.

Attention seeking behaviour. The best thing anyone can now do is not respond in any way.

MuttonCadet · 01/01/2014 14:38

Two thoughts:

  1. Who is so controlling that they dictate peoples response.
  2. Who has such rude friends that they think someone would comment negatively on a babys name.

We should have a sweepstake - I bet it's Adolf........

JaneFonda · 01/01/2014 14:38

Oh do come back and update us once you know!

VoyageDeVerity · 01/01/2014 14:38

FredFredGeorge · 01/01/2014 14:38

The best thing anyone can now do is not respond in any way.

trashcanjunkie · 01/01/2014 14:42

Nah, I think that's ok to say personally SNF I got masses of stick - mainly from family for calling my firstborn Zack. You seriously would have thought I'd picked Adolf. People can be so hurtful with their throw away comments, and it might be that they are just feeling emotionally fragile and want to pre-empt any such thoughtlessness.

My wild speculation is...

Tallyessen sniggers madly Grin

Wevet · 01/01/2014 14:45

They sound a bit - er - over-dramatic...? I mean, no one actually gives a tuppenny damn about the sex of a baby apart from its parents, and this kind of lead-up to the child's name suggests they think the world is literally on tenterhooks waiting for the Big Reveal!

It'll probably be terribly disappointing, and turn out to be only that the baby isn't called Jack, Harry, Mia or Emilia.
