I knew this but it's still preferable to Jackie Bird!

superbagpuss · 31/12/2013 18:17

surely everyone knew it wasn't live?

Sillybillybob · 31/12/2013 18:18

Did anyone really think it was?

trixymalixy · 31/12/2013 18:18

My friends were at the recording a couple of weeks ago. They do the countdown first apparently.

TapirsCaperWithReindeers · 31/12/2013 18:18

Aye, I ken, but whit's the alternative? Jackie Bird or the direness that is BBC1!!

SantanaLopez · 31/12/2013 18:18

I knew this but it's still preferable to Jackie Bird!

THIS.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/12/2013 18:20

I love the definition of Hootenanny that one of the characters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer gives - it's a whole lotta hoot with just a leetle bit of nanny. I think of that every NYE!

I thought it was common knowledge tbh, didn't a newspaper try and make a big deal out of it a while ago? it's filmed and broadcast as live though I think. I'll watch it if there's anyone good on anyway, it's much more preferable to Gary bloody Barlow!

HollyBen · 31/12/2013 18:28

STV are trailing some program with Michelle McManus from pop idol (or some such) Give me pre-recorded Jools any day

ItsAWonderfulCervix · 31/12/2013 18:31

Noooooo.

Like Dick Clarks rockin new years party.

And The Routine!

bringbacksideburns · 31/12/2013 18:32

Yup.

And one thing you can rely on is Roland Rivron in the audience. And probably Lenny Henry.
Every sodding year.

SomethingkindaOod · 31/12/2013 18:36

Actually I might just go to bed.. Or watch the Doctor Who Christmas special again!

MadameBigToes · 31/12/2013 18:36

Of course it's not. One year KT Tunstall was on it while simultaneously headlining Princes St Gardens at midnight! It's recorded in June or something.

I don't know why it has to be not live and also so excruciating - Later with JH isn't a bad show, the hogmanay version could be live and a really good alternative to Jackie Bird, but it's awful. (I actually love Jackie and her clavicles, but the show is pants.) We just spend the evening flipping between the two, alternating with running outside and craning our necks to spot fireworks.

Joysmum · 31/12/2013 18:37

Who's Jackie bird? Blush

Changebagsandtinselrags · 31/12/2013 18:37

...and there is no Santa...

hugoagogo · 31/12/2013 18:38

Dh is still gutted after I told him this a few years ago. Grin

sincitylover · 31/12/2013 18:39

I discovered this a few years ago (also that Jonathan Ross who was then on at new year also wasn't live) - it made me dislike this time of year even more. I also felt really stupid that I hadn't realised.

Many of the celebs will be in the Carribbean having a much better time whilst us plebs are expected to soak up the pre recorded entertainment! Pah!!

AnnabelleLee · 31/12/2013 18:39

Who or what is Jackie Bird?

I can't beleive anyone ever thought it was live...why would it be?

ClaimedByMe · 31/12/2013 18:40

Jackie Bird is the bbc Scottish news reader, she occasionally presents other minor things but always gets the Hogmanay gig, she's awful at it!

MadameBigToes · 31/12/2013 18:41

Jackie Bird is a Scottish newsreading national treasure and hogmanay telly institution.

She's v fabulous don't forget to check out those clavicles.

malteserzz · 31/12/2013 18:41

I thought it was live !

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2013 18:43

There was a big fuss about this a couple of years ago. It's the best of a bad bunch, but generally pretty dire.

LaGuardia · 31/12/2013 18:45

The Sunday episode of Strictly is recorded on Saturday night.

ComposHat · 31/12/2013 18:46

And Only aan excuse to look forward to. 12 whole months wiyhout Jimmy Calderwood gags and references to Chic Young being a closet Rangers fan.
