I love Jackie bird

WorrySighWorrySigh · 31/12/2013 18:49

ooohh nooo!!!

I thought it was live

With this I could pretend I sort of have a social life or at least think that I knew of people who do.

Now I really am just a sad git who does nothing and goes nowhere.

Caitlin17 · 31/12/2013 18:51

Jackie Bird is famously terrible, she was married to the editor of the Scottish Sun.

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 18:52

Yes it the shambolic delivery, love the whole stv and bbc hogmany thing

SuburbanRhonda · 31/12/2013 18:53

sincity, I also found out a few years ago and felt stupid for not realising.

I think I started to suspect when they had Kylie one year and wondered why she would be there instead of at home with her family, but maybe I just didn't want to believe it Blush

MadameBigToes · 31/12/2013 19:01

WorrySigh rofl at feeling like you do have a life because you are watching Jools actually having a party right at this moment, I so know what you mean!

The fact you know it's prerecorded is just like the ultimate insult to people who have had to give up on being out all night on new year's eve and are sitting at home with their kids tucked up in bed and a mug of cocoa.

Dawndonnaagain · 31/12/2013 19:06

The old grey whistle test wasn't live, either.

(On in the olden days before Jools).

SwedishEdith · 31/12/2013 19:10

I hate the sodding clock as well.

It lost all its appeal when you realised it wasn't live. Like you should be grateful that they've given up a bit of pre-recorded time for you

Interesting about Sunday Strictly being recorded on Saturday - I did wonder why they'd go to the bother of getting all made up again the next day

RandyRudolf · 31/12/2013 19:10

Bit risky especially if one of the guests has died since the recording.

VivaLeBeaver · 31/12/2013 19:12

I'm currently watching Pride and Prejudice on channel 20. Will be asleep before midnight.

What exactly has poor old Jackie Bird done to offend so many people? Shock

I quite like her.

And isn't John McCusker playing? That should make up for any presenting deficiencies.

thornrose · 31/12/2013 19:49

Oh shit Blush

TheMaw · 31/12/2013 19:50

Jackie Bird is hideous. I can't watch tv when she's on, she makes me all twitchy.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 31/12/2013 19:53

Euphemia GrinGrinGrin

And I have no idea who she is.

But Grin

Ifancyashandy · 31/12/2013 19:55

It was recorded about 3 weeks ago. They have never said it was live.

thornrose · 31/12/2013 19:58

I "assumed" it was live. I've had many a conversation with my dsis about how great that these people spend their NYE entertaining us.

Now, do I spill the beans to dsis, she'll be here in 10 minutes Grin

Jbck · 31/12/2013 19:59

She swims like fish, my Dad's claim to fame is sharing a bath with Jackie Bird, we'd actually been in the local swimmimg pool with her.

Scottish name for swimming is 'the baths'

Topseyt · 31/12/2013 19:59

Of course it isn't live. They record it several weeks beforehand.

It is awful too. A couple of years ago they even got the year wrong when they announced the countdown to the New Year!!!

Is it just me, or have the TV schedules for Christmas and New Year gone completely to pot in the last decade or so?? When I was a child growing up in the 70's and 80's I seem to remember Christmas and New Year as being a real "festival" of television. Great films, great shows, great acts (remembering Morecambe & Wise amongst others). For much of that time we only had three channels too, until Channel 4 came onstream. These days little of it inspires me apart from Doctor Who and Call the Midwife.

AlaskaNebraska · 31/12/2013 20:00

Who the fuck is Jackie bird

I did not know that, feel a bitBlush now, but I can't wait for dh to come downstairs so I can tell him.

loveliesbleeding1 · 31/12/2013 20:01

Yes, who's j.b?

exexpat · 31/12/2013 20:02

I got a mailing inviting me to apply for tickets for this year's Hootenanny, but as it was on a Wednesday night in early December in Maidenhead, I couldn't make it (it was all set to finish by 10.45pm so that everyone could make the last train back to London, though - very considerate).

I just wonder what will happen if one year one of the guests dies between the recording and the broadcast - some years they have had some rather venerable old musicians on, not to mention a few more in the 'live fast, die young' category.

SantanaLopez · 31/12/2013 20:03

My favourite part of JB's 'repertoire' is the sob section just before midnight with the lone piper.

Only an Excuse is now horribly un-funny. How many years has it been on now?!

SeaDevilscanPlay · 31/12/2013 20:03

A tenner says Paloma Faith is there.

She is always there.
