Let's overturn the ban. After all boxing day just isn't any fun without a few dead foxes and blood and guts and stuff.

And while we're at it, don't you just love a bit of badger baiting for variety When shredding foxes gets dull.

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 14:05

I've never even hunted fox so I don't know why I am on this thread. Grin

RandyRudolf · 29/12/2013 14:05

But the hounds don't do it of their own accord, they are led by humans. As humans, we know other animals kill but we should know better than to kill for fun and pleasure. There are plenty of kicks to be had elsewhere and not at the cost of another's life. Taking another life just because we can is just plain wrong in my book.

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 14:08

it's obviously not solely about fun and pleasure, we all have a responsibility to manage the land and balance the population of various animals and plants living on it

it's just a bonus that it can be a thrilling adventure along the way

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/12/2013 14:08

What a load of tosh! Of course hounds aren't trained to scent! Haha do you think that packs of wild dogs hunt? And as for the dogs/humans on horses thing, yes, the horses are a bit of an addendum, but more than one predatory species are known to use each other in a hunt. Take lions and hyenas for example.
Basically humans are using other species in a parasitical manner. And that is very natural.

Mrsmorton · 29/12/2013 14:09

Mitchy you posh cunt. You'll exhaust yourself posting all of these rational answers that no one is reading.

RandyRudolf · 29/12/2013 14:10

We also have a responsibility to protect and preserve life.

RandyRudolf · 29/12/2013 14:13

So hounds are not taken cubbing to learn how to hunt their prey?!

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 14:13

Grin this is the first thread where I get to enjoy being a posh cunt and an old slapper Grin

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 14:15

I don't hunt fox, we do autumn hunting but it's not cubbing. That's not just for the hounds anyway, but to get horses (and riders) fit too.

Someone who can afford to go out more than about three times a year should answer these questions. It's been interesting to see the strength of feeling though!

RandyRudolf · 29/12/2013 14:18

Yes, it is interesting to see the strength of feeling. However I can't stick around as I have stuff in RL to get on with. I can however go away with the knowledge the law is the side of the antis protecting foxes as well as it can for the time being. That will do me for now. Smile

womblesofwestminster · 29/12/2013 14:24

Which part is enjoyable?

Mrsmorton · 29/12/2013 14:26

If you don't enjoy it then it's ok. Trufact.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/12/2013 14:27

Hounds know how to hunt. The definition of cubbing which i had to look up is to train them to focus on fox. Learn the horn calls etc. It's training them to hunt in the way a human wants.

Mrsmorton · 29/12/2013 14:30

I think the red coats look very smart and as a confirmed country dweller, I can assure you that nothing looks odder to me than someone outside in a velour track suit and "ugh"boots. Each to their own though, and as I would only ever hunt within the law and I definitely wouldn't enjoy it I think I'm ok on this thread.

And I must be posh because I ride a horse that I borrow from a friend in a complex arrangement involving no money

womblesofwestminster · 29/12/2013 14:43

Can you answer my Q as to which part of the hunt is enjoyable?

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 14:51

I can't indulge your bloodthirsty fantasies but in my extremely limited and narrow hunting career so far I have enjoyed every part of my hunting experiences (even getting up early, even falling off) except for when I have humiliated myself by being on a horse who couldn't cope and galloped through everyone. My favourite bits are closing my eyes to jump ditches and the massive meal at the end of the day.

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 14:56

I don't suppose that is what you want to hear but I can't pretend to possess the sort of bloodlust you're obsessed with.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/12/2013 15:02

Nope. Me neither!

womblesofwestminster · 29/12/2013 15:02

My favourite bits are closing my eyes to jump ditches and the massive meal at the end of the day.

Why don't you just go showjumping then?

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 15:04

amazingly am still allowed to do both Grin

it's not exactly an either/or situation that one

bumbleymummy · 29/12/2013 15:05

Why not just go on a drag hunt or jump cross or something?

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 15:09

that's why I'm not sure what I'm doing on this thread because I haven't been on a proper fox hunt for years

I do like drag hunting, in fact I think most hunts take place well within the law but it is a terrible piece of legislation whichever side you take and we should probably start again

bumbleymummy · 29/12/2013 15:12

Well if you get everything you like/want/need out of a drag hunt then why introduce a fox to the equation? Aside from wanting to kill something there really isn't much point.

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2013 15:14

I dunno, maybe it's one of the many things that is not actually about me? Shock

bumbleymummy · 29/12/2013 15:19

I would ask the same question of anyone who hunts. If you don't know, I wonder how many do actually know - unless they are prepared to admit (as some do) that they just want to kill something.
