According to threads I've been reading lately, most things I do seem to be marking me (and my family) out as chavs.

I fed my children formula and jarred food - this is chavvy
My Mum likes cards that say Nanny and she sends relative-specific cards - chavvy
My children like to wear character clothing - chavvy
I shop at Tesco and sometimes even Asda - chavvy

AIBU to be a bit tired of seeing the word 'chav' on here lately? I've challenged it and said that it's offensive, but just get the 'well, it's only online, why are you bothered', as if that makes it ok.

Yes, I realise I'm being over-sensitive, but me and my family aren't 'chavs' and I'm tired of it being bandied about (along with 'common') to describe things that people see as beneath them.

I have seen many things described as chavvy on here and I do wonder if most of MN even know what the word means or if they are like kids that hear a word and just repeat to seem cool without understanding the meaning

My 6 year old niece must be a chav then as she's sent Ds a cousin card. I'm very happy that my family and friends are normal people who don't overthink every little thing they do for fear of being looked down on. Seriously op, if others want to sneer at something as insignificant as greetings cards they really do need to get a life.

Alaska - we weren't all here when MN started though, and as, when I joined, there was nothing flashing on screen saying 'oooh, don't have a number in your name or people will be laughing at you' and as I just wanted a quick screen name to get advice in Relationships, I didn't think too hard about the name.

I like to hope that I'd be judged on what I contribute, rather than the fact that there's a fucking 73 in my name.

Maybe I should take the number out and post some racist bollocks - would that be better?

Fact is, half these things aren't chavvy. They are things some people like and others do not. I don't like Aldi or Lidl myself. I don't like Disney clothes or merchandise and I don't like boys in pink, which is why if this baby is a boy he'll have new stuff, not DDs cast-offs.

But, they are my personal dislikes, not the chavs guide to motherhood.
