To think I must be a chav, as MN has deemed me so?

According to threads I've been reading lately, most things I do seem to be marking me (and my family) out as chavs.

I fed my children formula and jarred food - this is chavvy
My Mum likes cards that say Nanny and she sends relative-specific cards - chavvy
My children like to wear character clothing - chavvy
I shop at Tesco and sometimes even Asda - chavvy

AIBU to be a bit tired of seeing the word 'chav' on here lately? I've challenged it and said that it's offensive, but just get the 'well, it's only online, why are you bothered', as if that makes it ok.

Yes, I realise I'm being over-sensitive, but me and my family aren't 'chavs' and I'm tired of it being bandied about (along with 'common') to describe things that people see as beneath them.

I would love an ocado near me it is only in the south of England isn't it,

Heartbrokenmum73 · 23/12/2013 22:38

Adventure Time I may be prejudiced here is fine, Hello Kitty or Micky Mouse, you're on shaky ground.

But why? DS1 loves Adventure Time and Pokemon. DD went through a real Hello Kitty phase.

Who's going to go to Japan and tell them they're wrong?

Mrsjay they are all over. I get ocado to deliver and I am common.

I aways apologise to the driver for my commoness when he arrives

They price match tesco on loads of stuff and they are the best at delivering I have tried, and I not going to a real shop with toddler & baby.

HaroldTheGoat · 23/12/2013 22:40

This thread is common.

RobinSparkles · 23/12/2013 22:41

MurderOfGoths, we used to say townies round here too. They used to wear track suit bottoms pulled up to the knee, tucked into brightly coloured socks, with rock port boots.

I don't know why we called them townies Xmas Confused. Maybe because they hung around town. They even called themselves townies!

There were townies: as described above.
Trendies: sort of hipster kind, nice posh clothes.
Moshers: alternative, baggy cords, piercings etc.

I got punched in the face by a townie for hanging around with "moshers". True story.

mrsjay · 23/12/2013 22:41

Mrsjay they are all over. I get ocado to deliver and I am common.

I dont think ocado is in scotland though i am going to google

HaroldTheGoat · 23/12/2013 22:41

The thing is with threads like this is that it attracts all the darn chavs. Sad

SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 23/12/2013 22:42

HaroldTheGoat · 23/12/2013 22:42

Don't want to get ideas above my station. Grin

'Too many question marks, is that chavvy??????? (Probably)'

Yes it is, as is too many exclamation marks!!!!!!!!! Xmas Grin

I shop at Morrisons, Chavs are known as 'Neds' to me as I am Scottish. They drink buckfast and wander round in tracksuits with their trouser bottoms tucked into their socks....

grumpyoldbat · 23/12/2013 22:44

Don't worry too much I shop at lidl and live in a council house. According to MN that makes me chavvy, lazy, entitled, scrounging scum that irresponsibly gets 'free' housing. I need taught a lesson in work ethic apparently. So you're way above me.

Some days I enjoy reading Mn. Others I it makes me feel so shit about myself I have to stop because it gets to the stage I feel the need to cut myself as punishment.

usualsuspect · 23/12/2013 22:45

My DD had some Rockports for Christmas once.

HaroldTheGoat · 23/12/2013 22:45

Yes but I gave the driver a card saying "to the ocado delivery man at Christmas"

I'm THAT common.

RobinSparkles · 23/12/2013 22:46

Did you wear them with bright stripey socks, Sp? :o

DH has rockports, he says they're really comfy.

mrsjay · 23/12/2013 22:46

They drink buckfast and wander round in tracksuits with their trouser bottoms tucked into their socks....

although we do get chavs according to one of my dds they wear jack willis and hollister apparently and are mahoghany brown

MurderOfGoths · 23/12/2013 22:46

Robin I think that was just how townies communicated, they went through a phase around here were they called all the alternative kids "greebos", no matter whether they were metallers, goths or punks. Confused people no end, confused the townies more if you asked them to explain why though Wink

Heartbrokenmum73 · 23/12/2013 22:46

Grumpy - oh, me too.

Single parent? Tick.
On benefits? Tick.

I've found myself justifying mine and my kids right to even be alive on many a thread - although people benefit bashing generally get a good kicking on here, I've noticed.
