Is this enough? I though it was but just read on the interweb you should give them 1 weeks pay. She gets 20£ a week. WIBU with £10 bonus on top of the £20?

I give mine £20 which is what I pay her each week, ie her bonus is a week's pay.

AwfulMaureen · 23/12/2013 19:21

What is A£ Confused

daisychain01 · 23/12/2013 19:22

Hi bordellosboheme, I did the same for my cleaning lady and she was chuffed (and surprised!). It is the first year I have had a cleaner to help us, so I was a little unsure too.

I wouldn't go by what the interweb says, because it's down to what you can afford (i.e. don't feel guilty!). Your gesture will be well received I'm sure.

£10 is a nice bottle of wine, hand-cream, cinema ticket, little treat for her to enjoy Xmas Smile

daisychain01 · 23/12/2013 19:23

I think MN website goes a bit loopy if you use ££ signs in the title field Smile

growltigersontheloose · 23/12/2013 19:25

We gave ours £12, we normally pay her £18 so rounded up to £30. She seemed happy (she left us chocolate Smile )

WooWooOwl · 23/12/2013 19:25

There isn't a rule about it, what you read is just an opinion. It's fine for you to give extra if you want and it's just as fine if you don't want to.

It's a gift, not something that is expected, so as you would with anyone else you want to give a gift to, give what you want.

Rosarium · 23/12/2013 19:27

We just bought our cleaner chocolates (and she bought some Thomas ones for my son) ... Now I feel a bit miserly Sad

Artandco · 23/12/2013 19:28

We gave ours £100. But she usually does 5 hours a week and has helped us out a lot this year by coming on different days etc to wait for parcels/ take in new carpet/ furniture etc whilst cleaning which has been a great help for us.

bordellosboheme · 23/12/2013 19:29

Sorry for the loopy icons. To translate.... I gave my cleaner a 10 quid bonus, which is half what I pay her a week. Was this enough? She seemed chuffed and said cheers, so I hope that means it was Smile

We pay ours £20 a week and gave her a tenner bonus, I would have thought this was ok, as its extra anything should be acceptable.

OverAndAbove · 23/12/2013 20:26

I gave ours a tenner too; that's not equivalent to a week's wages but it felt like the right amount. I wish I got an extra week's money at Christmas from my employers!

She is apparently happy, why are you asking us if you think she is happy?

breatheslowly · 23/12/2013 20:33

I give mine a foodie gift and a week's pay. But it is really up to you.

SilverOldie · 23/12/2013 21:03

I gave mine £50 - she's worth every penny.

daisychain01 · 23/12/2013 21:12

It's lovely we all appreciate our cleaners as Christmas is here.

Reminds me, must remember to put out a card and Christmas box for our postie, in the morning - he is brilliant! Hope the weather isn't too gruesome for him, poor fella.

thegreylady · 23/12/2013 21:13

I give mine £20 as her weekly pay is £20 :)

Taffeta · 23/12/2013 21:14

She gets £18 a week (2 hours)

Gave her £20 in her Christmas card

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/12/2013 21:16

I gave mine a big bottle of Baileys

JRmumma · 23/12/2013 21:16

Tenner seems fine to me. Assuming they clean for several other people, if they all gave half a weeks pay that would be a good bonus.

I don't get bonuses ever in my job so id be chuffed with that.

Horispondle · 23/12/2013 21:19

I pay mine £20 a week and gave £10. She seemed happy with this and said everyone has been doing the same today.

chickydoo · 23/12/2013 21:36

My cleaners come once a fortnight, I pay them £48 ( so £24 a week) I gave them £15

AlaskaNebraska · 23/12/2013 21:38

i do a weeks pay

Bowlersarm · 23/12/2013 21:39

I do a weeks pay as well.

But I'm sure she's really pleased, with whatever you manage to give her.

QuintessentialShadows · 23/12/2013 21:42

I gave my cleaner a box of chocolate, and a Christmas card with a £20 m&s voucher.

I also gave her a payrise, she has charged £8.5 p/h for the last three years, so I thought it fair to raise it according to a realistic going rate, £10 per hour.

Fivemoreminutesmummy · 23/12/2013 21:43

I did a week's pay and a nice bottle of wine. I had no idea before this thread if this was too little or too much. Seems about right.
