I've opened it in AIBU to piss off Trills etc and to see if mnhq leave it here

I love Monty Python's Flying Circus for sheer ingenuity and outside-the-usual-comedy-box humour, but agree it's not always laugh out loud funny.

I know somebody who says that everything in life can be commented on with quotes from Father Ted and/or House - he's probably right Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 26/12/2013 17:14

They never seem to show Life of Brian on the telly anymore. To me it's still the funniest thing I've ever seen, though I do love Father Ted too.

Fiderer · 26/12/2013 17:22

I first saw Life Of Brian in Jerusalem and it was heavily censored (I was going to type "censored to hell" but thought that may be confusing Grin ) so for years I didn't get why it was so funny.

I am slowly doing practical things. I've just made a fruit salad to use up fruit that'll go off while we're away and it's a massive bloody bowl full that we'll never eat before we go so I suppose I'll have to drain the liquid and freeze it. Mushy fruity ice-cream smoothie thing may well be my culinary height in 2014.

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 17:24

Mushy fruity ice-cream smoothie thing sounds delicious, Fids.

I still have persimmon to finish - they may well go in a fruit salad tomorrow

Fiderer · 26/12/2013 17:38

Are persimmons the ones the Germans call Kaki? Taste like apricots? I saw some and was intrigued but saw mad gherkin woman and shot off.

I have made an actual list and got cases and started packing.

FidGirl was trilling away about how exciting it is to be packing to go to England and I (possibly meanly) pointed out that's cos her list is "pack clothes special teddy and new Kindle." Mine starts with "check boiler, do bins and fridge" and ends with "check bin schedule for week we are away and wash kitchen floor."

She pointed out she had noticed how much work there is before we go away because she watched me. So in a special moment of mother daughter bonding I then taught her how to use the washing machine.

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 17:41

Aw, she's perceptive Smile.

Yes, I think Kaki is another name for them (that's what they are known as in California as well according to my mum. But then there is also 'American Persimmon' which are a bit different apparently Confused and Sharon Fruit.
A bit like apricot, I suppose, tough skin and soft juicy flesh, sweet, but not terribly aromatic.

I don't envy you the packing - how long will you be home for?

I am American. I lived in California.

They are called persimmon.

Your friends/relatives/strangers are insane.

Fact.

Xmas Grin
Fiderer · 26/12/2013 17:50

She's 11 and she can make (me) tea and cook (some things)for herself. The boys (14 & nearly 17) do their own washing and I suppose I've got into the habit of bunging hers in with mine. I only offer to do a load for the boys when I notice FidBoy2 hasn't been near the utility room in a while.

FidBoy1 is v fashion conscious and has adopted my de-fuzzer thing for his coat and between that and his hair gel it takes him longer and longer to get out of the house Grin

We're only going for a week and I was and am thrilled to be going but I cba with the faff of washing etc. Which seems churlish and def is lazy. I have to admit I'm not thrilled that exH will be in the house while we're away, it unsettles and unnerves me. MAybe 2014 will be the year to sell the house and start afresh.

Fiderer · 26/12/2013 17:55

Rollo Texts from DG? Xmas Shock Spill all.

I don't know how we got on to it yesterday (something on TV?) but FidGirl reassured me that I wasn't too old to get a new boyfriend and then FidBoy2 came and kissed me and told me not to worry, he'll stay with me until he's at least 35 Xmas Grin

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 26/12/2013 17:55

Fid

Kaki is poo in Hungarian. I'd never eat anything called kaki!Grin

Fiderer · 26/12/2013 18:02

In German too, well anything kack-related. Probably why they never appealed to me. Couldn't buy the children a Puky bike or clothes from Tack either.
My mum was most amused that our butcher was Herr Fuck and still asks if I bought Fuck's meat Xmas Grin

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:12

Your friends/relatives/strangers are insane - I don't disagree with that statement Grin

Oh get over yourselves, different things are called different words in different languages - imagine that Shock
Zing, I'd've thought better of you. DH still falls over laughing any time somebody says 'Gute Fahrt' HmmGrin - it's been close to 20 years and apparently the 'joke' is still funny.

ginslinger · 26/12/2013 18:17

Kunst is what gets our visitors sniggering

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:17
Fiderer · 26/12/2013 18:26

Pacific it can get a bit wearing but it's childishly amusing.

Sekt?

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:28

Oh thank you, I'll stick with my Amaretto Sour - I feel v sophisticated with a cocktail in my hand

See, tiresome... Wink

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:29
Grin

Why are you not panicking packing?

TheBigJessie · 26/12/2013 18:34

What's funny about Kunst?

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:37

You clearly have an innocent mind, Jessie, long may it continue...

Fiderer · 26/12/2013 18:37

I am packed. I made FidBoy1 leave his ID at home when he went out tonight (despite "Ausweispflicht", he has to carry ID) as last time we flew, his ID was stolen days beforehand.

I'm doing FidBoy2's packing as he's at his friend's again, they don't think his dad will last the night.

Thanks for the support over the last few days Flowers

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:39

Ach, Ausweispflich, Schmausweispflicht, he'll be fine.

So sad re your son's friend's dad Sad - just awful.

Have a good trip tomorrow.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 26/12/2013 18:45

My goodness such dirty minds on this thread!!

Xmas Shock

Is anyone buying my outrage?

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:46
