AIBU?

To expect a 'sister' card for Xmas from my brother

His card arrived today in the post, just a bog standard one out of a box of cards. I always get him and his wife a 'to my brother and his wife' card every year. He used to but the last two years it's been a box one. AIBU?

Those family cards are naff and overpriced. I don't even send a card to my brothers, I see them every week and would rather send them a better present than an expensive tacky card and frankly I'd think they were barking if they sent me one.

Yabu. My dsil buys us a "special" card and one each for our DDS. Total waste of money in my opinion. I tend to buy a nice pack of cards in January which I use for family cards.

I've never bought anyone specific Christmas cards, no one in either of our families does. So YABU.

You do realise he's gearing up to stop sending cards altogether don't you? You've been downgraded to inferior pack cards, soon it will be recycled ones with robins on the front and the previous names tippexed over.

I usually buy them as everyone else in the family does but this year have sent none and instead bought tins of chocolates to put in with the gifts instead. Cards only end up in the recycling anyway. £4 for a tin of chocoates per family yet a card for brother, niece and nephew easily amounts to more than that.

YABVU. The only person that gets cards like that from us are our parents and our children.

OP YABVU and more than a little precious.

I have never had any card at all from my 32 YO brother, and I'm not actually that bothered because I think most cards are a complete rip off.

You would hate me too, because the only cards I buy are in the sale in January or Card Warehouse's 5 for £1 special offer ones. I can't believe that people pay several £££s For A Card from the likes of WH Smith or Clintons.

I would cut off all ties with him OP. How can you have any sort of meaningful sibling relationship with a man like that Sad

OP this is the most unbelievably trivial thing to get upset about. Not only would I not expect anyone to give it a second thought, I wouldn't expect them to five it a first thought or even notice, let alone care one iota.

Good grief!

OH family are obsessive about this - We always get "to a wonderful son and his partner" card OH mentioned that ut should have been fiancé Hmm I think they are naff and tacky and really impersonal.

I don't send my siblings cards at all, and vice versa. We see them before Christmas and wish them Happy Christmas and give them presents, we phone each other on the day and wish them Happy Christmas again, why would we need to do it a third time with an overpriced card?

My DH's family all send these kind of cards and it gets on my nerves no end. He's wishing you well, why on earth does the card have to spell out your relationship? Such a waste of money and time.

Our family don't even send cards... I still need to write some out for other people.. its a stupid waste of money.

My DSis always gets me one (and often niece and nephew ones for the DCs) and I find it a bit annoying as they take up a lot more space than a normal card. In return I send her...a normal card from a packet! She probably thinks I'm a bitch!

Meh. Some people have had the same "boxed" card from me two years in a row.

It was a really big box :)

...In fact I'd be surprised if they even stand up on their own. you could spit through them. 100 cards for £1.99 or something.

My sister forgets to send cards every year though, so I'm still the thoughtful one no matter how shite mine are Grin

YABU

My ILs are crazy about cards, we get two cards from each of them, one for us (son & daughter in law/brother & sister in law) and one for our DD (granddaughter/niece) huge waste of money and I actually have nowhere to put them

Pooka · 23/12/2013 13:41

Yabu!

I loathe those cards with a passion! I know my brothers are my brothers and my mum us my mum.

Plus they're almost always uglier than the cool cards you can get in a box. And they tend not to have charity donation.
