Hi MN Smile

After taxes, bills, rent/mortgage , food basically everything - with the money that is left over how do you treat yourselves and what do you generally spend it on?

Personally: fresh flowers, 'luxury' bath products /creams and huge gorgeous candles. And a once weekly massage (I have a semi-physical job)

My best friend : monthly mini break (lucky cow), different ethnic restaurants and rare books.

What about you all?

throckenholt · 21/12/2013 09:43

Ours goes on holidays and tools and materials for making stuff (DH and 3 boys).

And I guess running two cars (more than essential but makes life easier).

soontobeburns · 21/12/2013 10:09

Atm all but £200 of my income is disposable. So everything.

MightyMagnificentScarfaceClaw · 21/12/2013 10:16

There isn't a lot left to dispose of sadly...but I am about to get my quarterly hair cut, I occasionally get a meal out with friends or even DH if we can get someone to babysit, and I do splash out on really nice bubble bath Grin sometimes - my current favourite is Cath Kidston.

Crowler · 21/12/2013 10:21

Dining out (too much - this is on my hit list)
Hair
Travel
Clothes, not a huge amount
KIDS.

DENMAN03 · 21/12/2013 10:30

My horses and holidays..

rubybleu · 21/12/2013 10:55

We are DINKS and expats so a good chunk is spent on travel - we use all our 25 days leave on trips. Very conscious this can't last forever so enjoying it whilst we can.

I also spend a small fortune on the gym and weekly personal training as I had a knee reconstruction earlier this year. We don't eat out much but do eat well at home. Rarely get my hair cut, never had a facial, etc but do buy nice clothes if I need them.

ThistledownAndCobweb · 21/12/2013 11:06

Yarn, to fuel my crochet addiction
Pets, treats and vet bills
Gadgetry, both IT stuff, but also am a sucker for tools and things like leathermans

manyhands · 21/12/2013 11:09

I spent far too much on my hobby running. Treats for the kids and days out too.

babyicebean · 21/12/2013 14:01

Disposable income?

Merlotmonster · 21/12/2013 14:56

Most of it goes on holidays...I like to go away A LOT!, plus the horse takes up the slack for the remaining.. but theres usually some left over for eating out, lots of wine, gym and cycle stuff...

maparole · 21/12/2013 15:02

I don't have any, but I dream of some mega-indulgent bed linen and then sending it to be laundered.

Lizzabadger · 21/12/2013 16:31

A bottle of cheap wine a week. A monthly theatre ticket. Coffee & cake twice a week. Highlights every two months. Rock and roll...

I'd like to be able to afford non-charity-shop clothes and the occasional holiday. One day the mortgage will be paid off...

FortyMerryFuckers · 21/12/2013 16:37

Hair, nails, makeup, waxing.
Meals out/takeaway
Wine, vodka etc
Flowers/candles
Clothes & shoes for me & DS
DS's hobby
Weekends away, holidays
I also put money away every month to allow me to go mad at Christmas.

FortyMerryFuckers · 21/12/2013 16:38

I also drink a lot of takeaway coffee which probably adds up to a fair amount.

FortyMerryFuckers · 21/12/2013 16:39

Oh and a day out with DS usually once a week.

skittycat · 21/12/2013 16:43

I have a few hobbies that I do... learning to crochet and I also do some sewing so have a soft spot for lovely expensive fabrics. I also seem to spend all of my 'disposable' income on going places (cinema, meals out etc) with my "DH" so that he can spend his disposable income on weed and fags. Angry

Dixy30 · 21/12/2013 16:48

A cleaner
Taxis when running late for work
Dinner out 1/2 p wk, 1 take away p wk and x2 meals out wih kids at weekend
Champagne cocktails
Nice choc/ flower / thank you gifts
Extra expense of only dressing kids in traditional/ Swedish clothes
Buy at least 10 kids books per month new
Think nothing of spending up to £80 on clothes 1 item for myself every fortnight or so
Etc

AGypsiesWife · 21/12/2013 17:03

Wine to keep me calm.
Age UK shop, New Look or Primark - twice a year - more if I didn't buy the wine, but then I would be a bitch.
Fags.
Latest indulgence, extra Christmas lights to twinkle at me.

marmaladeandguitars · 21/12/2013 17:15

For me- Cheap wine, candles, books, and clothes/random crap from charity shops. I actually bought new make up the other day, first time in about 2 years, should really do it more often

DH- DVDs, things for the garden, music

General family things- DD's activities, pets, days out, other things for DD, books, savings, little things for the house, presents for other people.

We have feck all disposable income, so it's certainly not all at the same time, and DD comes first of course. But we're happy, and now DH is earning a little more, we're going to save up and try and go to the ballet/theatre a bit more, which we both love

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/12/2013 17:28

Wine
Cigarettes
Clothes
Makeup
Books
Trashy weekly magazines
Eating out.

Planning on cutting out the cigarettes and mags in the new year though.

OctopusWrangler · 21/12/2013 19:16

Coffee with a friend once a week. A haircut maybe three times a year. Music lessons for eldest and scout fees for eldest two.

somewherewest · 21/12/2013 19:48

Coffee out (my weak point Grin) and DH and I both buy books and box sets occasionally.
