To ask what you spend your disposable income on?

Hi MN Smile

After taxes, bills, rent/mortgage , food basically everything - with the money that is left over how do you treat yourselves and what do you generally spend it on?

Personally: fresh flowers, 'luxury' bath products /creams and huge gorgeous candles. And a once weekly massage (I have a semi-physical job)

My best friend : monthly mini break (lucky cow), different ethnic restaurants and rare books.

What about you all?

CustardOmlet · 20/12/2013 21:11

Stupidly expensive Clark's children shoes (DS inherited my stupid shape feet) and wine.

NCISaddict · 20/12/2013 21:13

Whisky and books.

PaschasDanglyReindeerBaubles · 20/12/2013 21:14

Sadly enough I spend most of it on the children - swimming, books, clothes, entry to places, new stuff. Maybe 10% goes on lunch, coffee etc for me. About twice a year I go mad and buy new shoes and clothes.

Other than that it sits waiting in my bank account.

SeaSickSal · 20/12/2013 21:16

Books and magazines. Also I save up and have one proper holiday a year and a visit to see family overseas. I like to eat out once a month too, but normally pick somewhere cheap but unusual.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 20/12/2013 21:21

Country club membership
Cleaner
Spanish lessons
Holidays
Handbags
Clothes
Presents for DH

catgirl1976 · 20/12/2013 21:22

Wine, eyelash extensions, treats for DS, takeaways or meals out, kindle books, computer games (DH), more wine

NoArmaniNoPunani · 20/12/2013 21:28

Oh yeah I forgot to add eyelash extensions

catgirl1976 · 20/12/2013 21:30

I can't live without them now :)

MissMalteser · 20/12/2013 21:33

The lovely lady who picks up my washed laundry and delivers it back the next day all ironed and hanging nicely is my most valued luxury :)
Kindle books
Eating out, as a family and work lunches etc
Socialising at weekends and days out with the dd's
Kitchen gadgets and premium ingredients for my cooking/baking hobby
Clothes, mostly for the dd's and work clothes for me and dh
We save every month for our holiday fund and the odd weekend away

ComposHat · 20/12/2013 21:34

Rubber fettish porn, ketamine and a new spade for going badger baiting with.

spilttheteaagain · 20/12/2013 21:35

finishing the decorating we started in March
Fixing the bloody cars
Replacing threadbare knickers/tshirts/worn through shoes/broken squash rackets for DH
never ending "stuff" that keeps dying in our house and needing fixing/replacing seems to make our credit card wince every month at the moment.

As treats, I adore cookbooks and buying cake out.
DH is a gadget man.

Weekly we pay for his squash club, toddler groups etc out of disposable cash

and wine Grin

Joysmum · 20/12/2013 21:56

I'm not the stereotypical woman as I don't do clothes, shoes, makeup etc. I also have disposable cars (cheap ones that get scrapped if they need too much work).

This means I have about £50 a week to myself and that pays for my pony.

MisguidedHamwidge · 20/12/2013 22:13

Clothes for the children, ballet & football clubs, occasional take-awaySbooks for all of us, various nutritional supplements/sports drink powders for DH (he seems to have an addiction to these!), occasionally nice make up for me. We do probably spend quite a lot on food though, I like good quality ingredients.

I think that's it actually. Oh, just remembered I do have what DS calls an "obsession with kitchen gadgets". A bread maker, a cake mixer, juicer etc. I convince myself that these items are actually going to save me money though so they are 'necessary' Xmas Blush

maddening · 20/12/2013 22:18

Days out, meals out, birthday presents, last couple of months has been Christmas - but still had odd day out.

Purplefrogshoe · 20/12/2013 22:20

Mine goes on gin too Xmas Grin

jenniferlawrence · 20/12/2013 22:21

Books, house stuff (we are doing it up).

Mabelandrose · 20/12/2013 22:21

Beauty treatments, hair dresses, coffee and lunches, buying nice home things. Whatever I fancy really.

ashamedoverthinker · 20/12/2013 22:22

Too much on stuff for the kids they dont really need inc taking them out places like cinema visits (we have sky movies)

Eating out - omg it crimminal our yearly spend but tbh the local Toby can save me some times

Coffees and cakes - so we've had lunch athome and went out after ans still ended up spendng £10 or more

Clothes - I recently went a bit mad. But I am having nothing for Christmas as I really dont need anything.

Nice gym membership

Me personally out of my allowance is my monthyl uni fees (Open Uni 2ns degree)

Gardender (monthly)

..and sometimes a laundry service

Lj8893 · 20/12/2013 22:27

Don't really have much of a disposable income but I have a bit of an eBay addiction!!

Some months it will be clothing.
Some months will be furniture/homewear, we have recently moved into our "forever" home.

Wittsend13 · 20/12/2013 22:27

Rosé, vaps, going to the pub and junk food. It's not often I have extra money after my bills, but when I do, it goes on the above.

Haggischucker · 20/12/2013 22:28

Lol at buckfast fudge, the liquor of my youth! Saw in a newsagents for £11.99 in England the other day, I used to buy for £2.99 a bottle but only if a good number (under 18)

Yup (surprisingly) my disposable goes on cheap wine and holidays :D

PhoebeMcPeePee · 20/12/2013 22:38

Ahhh op, a girl after my own heart: in my former life (the one when I actually had a disposable income) I too spent it on fresh flowers, yummy candles & body/bath potions plus I also had a weekly blow-dry & manicure.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry about how different my life is now Shock

mumteedum · 20/12/2013 22:43

Shouldn't have read this thread. I have no disposable income as I have to currently rely on dh. I just get housekeeping for bills. Feel v depressed now. Back to work in Feb though only temporary so maybe I might join in having a bit if a life then.

Sorry...as you were. Self pitying whinge over.

SuckItAndSee · 20/12/2013 22:45

mostly on eating out, and other food treats like green and blacks or nice cheeses

TheZeeTeam · 20/12/2013 22:46

A whole lot of crap really.
