to want to bite off my own hand if I see the phrase "nom nom" used by and about adults again?

Yes, I am, I know.
But I'd rather play a specially-made CD of DS scraping his nails down the blackboard than see another adult post this phrase on Facebook (and yes, I know, I just shouldn't go on there....).

Om nom nom surely?

ClockWatchingLady · 19/12/2013 12:51

AAARGH! My hand is gone.

Err. I might regret asking this, but... I don't facebook so I have never seen this and don't know what it means. What is it?

SettingPlaster · 19/12/2013 12:52

YANBU. It is insanely irritating. I blame Americans. British people used to say 'Yummy' until about five minutes ago. Which was irritating too, but not as bad...

Gruntfuttock · 19/12/2013 12:52

YANBU "nom nom" is very silly indeed.

"Om nom nom" is however very useful - being highly descriptive. Grin

I'm not guilty of the 'crime' you mention btw, as I haven't got a Facebook account (or a mobile phone or a friend)

farewellfigure · 19/12/2013 12:53

It's a phrase used by people to mean 'This is delicious and I want to eat it all'. You have to imagine them saying it with a mouthful of mince pie (or whatever).

The same people say things like, 'I wuv my wuvvly dawta sooooo much', 'bubba', 'hun' and 'hubby'. You know who you are.

ClockWatchingLady · 19/12/2013 12:53

Typically, person posts a picture of some food item (normally made by them) and said phrase is used to mean "looks tasty" or similar

OP posts:
Gruntfuttock · 19/12/2013 12:54

'Om nom nom' is a million times better than 'yummy'.

ClockWatchingLady · 19/12/2013 12:54

YANBU. It is even worse when preceded by a hashtag, under a picture with a Shitstagram filter on it.

SettingPlaster · 19/12/2013 12:55

5, it's basically an even more offensively juvenile way of saying 'yummy', as in 'OMG, I gave the biggest piece of chocolate cake sitting in front of me - om nom nom.'

Assuming the 'om nom nom' guff is supposed to approximate the sound of enthusiastic munching...?

ephemeralfairy · 19/12/2013 12:56

Yes. Enthusiastic, loud and irritating munching.

ClockWatchingLady · 19/12/2013 13:00

Oh, you're all ace for the yanbus.
Hope you all have really blessed days with your hubbies and bubbas Grin

I prefer nom nom to scrummy - that makes me demented

ClockWatchingLady · 19/12/2013 13:04

Robot, I'm now vomiting into the waste paper basket

I really love om nom nom, I think it's funny. STILL, even though people have been saying it for ages.

I don't know what's wrong with me.

It's like what Cookie Monster says, and I love him.

ClockWatchingLady · 19/12/2013 13:05

Maybe you still have a heart and soul, Join. I think I traded mine in when I joined Facebook.

I have a friend that actually says 'Om nom nom' as she begins to eat anything 'nice' Confused

I don't go for dinner anymore.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 19/12/2013 13:07

Wow, maybe I do!

That's a bit of a turn up for the books :o

When I read your OP all I could imagine was you eating your own hand and going "Om nom nom nom nom nom nom" while you chomped it.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 19/12/2013 13:08

"I have a friend that actually says 'Om nom nom' as she begins to eat anything 'nice' confused

I'll go for dinner with her!

I'd find that really entertaining.

carovioletfizz · 19/12/2013 13:11

Me too, I cannot STAND that phrase.
It's on a par with 'woop woop'.

SomethingkindaOod · 19/12/2013 13:12

Hate it on FB, I did however do it in public when helping DD2 with her meal in a restaurant. You know the whole opening your own mouth and pretending to chew thing? Did that too. Felt like a total arse when DH pointed it out to me Grin

quesadilla · 19/12/2013 13:14

I agree, it's really cringeworthy.

Not quite as bad as "yay!" though.

That makes me want to excommunicate the poster.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 19/12/2013 13:17

What on earth is wrong with "yay!"?

Fuck, I thought I was a grumpy disagreeable fucker.

I'm like a happy, sparkly, "always look on the bright side" twinkly fairy compared to you lot.
