Buggies must be folded by law, if a wheelchair user wishes to board

I know this can be a hot topic so thought I'd share that stagecoach have new signs on their buses stating that buggies must be folded by law if a wheelchair user wishes to board. Let's hope it's actually enforced.

OP posts:

I know?
It was mostly RTFT and asking if they were trying to cause trouble!

ParcelFancy · 22/12/2013 14:00

Replies to deleted comments sometimes get deleted, even if the poster hasn't done anything wrong.

GobbySadcase · 22/12/2013 14:00

I'm really starting to wonder if MNHQ have an agenda against me now.

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/12/2013 14:01

If that were true why haven't I been deleted Confused

Dawndonnaagain · 22/12/2013 14:01

Sorry this is happening Gobby. I left this place for a while earlier this year because of people behaving like twats with regard to disability. Some of us here will battle for a while whilst you take a rest, if you want.
Thanks

GobbySadcase · 22/12/2013 14:02

This is really worrying. MNHQ seem to be deleting me for things that do not breach the t&cs and warning me too.

It's like it's personal.

ParcelFancy · 22/12/2013 14:04

Gobby, your earlier long post was awesome and articulate. Thanks

GobbySadcase · 22/12/2013 14:05

I can manage that when I haven't got people slagging off my kids Wink

interesting

I got on a bus the other day with a buggy that can't fold down (mechanism is broken) and as it was busy, I said to the driver "my buggy doesn't fold so I'll get off if a wheelchair comes on"
he did rather look at me funny, so I'm sure he'd never had that before!

ParcelFancy · 22/12/2013 14:21

Thanks to Jaded, too.

I'm not going to press you to stay if you need a break. But I'm Angry that you've been made to feel like that. I hope you feel able to come back when you've had a rest. And I've been so glad to see DawnDonna posting again.

IamInvisible · 22/12/2013 14:30

Gobby I think when you posted get fucked it was only what a lot of us wanted to say. (I am glad you clarified that's what it was because I couldn't remember anything offensive!)

I often talk to my teens about things posted oh here about disabilities and disabled people and they don't believe there are people who are actually that thick. I am starting to agree with them, tbh. I think they are sick and get a kick out of upsetting the carers, the disabled and parents of disabled people. They can't be educated and more often than not, only a "get fucked" will do!

MNHQ you have got this very, very wrong!

GobbySadcase · 22/12/2013 14:36

Yes iam but I'm getting really worried now because I posted something completely in line with t&cs and got deleted for it.

Plus I didn't actually aim get fucked at anyone, therefore it wasn't a personal attack. I've seen other generic insults thrown that were allowed to stay because they weren't personal attacks.

I genuinely can't see where I have broken the t&cs.

I'm really starting to think someone has got something against me because I don't sugar coat what life with disability is and I challenge ignorance.

GobbySadcase · 22/12/2013 14:40

Oh sorry just re-read the email.
My tone was objectionable.

Well so is plenty of others towards me yet it stands...

Dawndonnaagain · 22/12/2013 14:41

Blush Thank you Parcel

Dawndonnaagain · 22/12/2013 14:43

Bloody hell, I can name a few with an objectionable tone as well as an objectionable idea on this very thread, and none of them are you, Gobby.
Apart from which, I've told more than one, again, on this thread, to fuck off.
[Hmm]

GobbySadcase · 22/12/2013 14:44

Can you see why I'm getting the 'noia?

JulieJingleBellsMumsnet · 22/12/2013 14:44

Hi there.

We need some time to have a good look into this thread so we're going to lock it for now to give us the chance to do this.

Disablist posts, like personal attacks, are against our talk guidelines and we will delete any that are reported to us. We don't expect anyone to 'educate' others and we do ask that any disablist posts are reported to us so that we can see them and take action.

MNHQ

CatherineMumsnet · 23/12/2013 10:44

Hi all, we've re-opened this thread now. We don't tolerate disabilist language so please do report any you see.

maillotjaune · 23/12/2013 11:23

MNHQ can you tell us more about what has happened as a result of you locking down the thread please? Glancing through, expecting to see some deletions earlier in the thread, all I noticed is that one poster who was doing a great job of winding up other posters on the first evening this was running, seems to have disappeared.

I might have thought I was imagining they had been on the thread but there is a post from MaryZ still referring to them. It removes some of the sense of the thread if posters start getting removed entirely doesn't it?

Livingtothefull · 23/12/2013 12:04

Yes I think we are entitled to a bit more of an explanation as to why it was thought necessary to shut down this thread for nearly 24 hours and what has been achieved by it.

Gobby btw....THANK YOU so so much for your comments here. I have a disabled wheelchair-bound DS and there is so much ignorance, resentment and outright hate directed against the disabled in my experience, and some of it has appeared on this thread.

Livingtothefull · 23/12/2013 12:31

I find it so depressing that anyone is even trying to argue that buggies shouldn't give up space to wheelchairs. I thought that as this was an entitlement by law the debate was over.

It doesn't stop me being apprehensive every time I get the bus that I am going to have to battle for/be denied the space for DS...or that the bus driver is going to refuse us on the grounds that buggies are in the space....all of which happens regularly/frequently. Really, a law which is not enforced is not worth having

GobbySadcase · 23/12/2013 13:05

Shame I'm likely to get suspended for them though, living. Nit a naice tone you see.

Andrewofgg · 23/12/2013 13:39

It was through an AIBU thread that I learned that there are children who can't, just can't, queue at a theme park.

Now: My father was blind and I am not disablist - but you cannot always avoid giving that impression if you simply do not know about the disability. He and I were once on a long-sea ferry, and he had put his folding white stick away because he thought his residual sight would do now that he had found his way around, and he bumped into somebody. "Look where you are going, are you blind?" "Actually, yes" and he took the white stick out of his pocket, and the poor blighter ran round the ship trying to apologise.

We both laughed, but before I read that thread I would have thought - and perhaps said - Bloody queue jumper if it had arisen when my now-adult DS was of theme park age - what a mercy that it did not.

So you who can, educate us all, and that includes new first-time parents of both genders who think that because they got the buggy in the space first it's theirs.

Livingtothefull · 23/12/2013 13:53

Really Gobby? I am astonished and genuinely confused....can't see where you have breached the guidelines?

Arguably if any posts should be taken down/posters suspended, it is those who state that it is ok to occupy the wheelchair space...surely a clear incitement, or statement of intention to, break the law.

What specifically qualifies as a 'disablist' post?
