To be irritated by people on C4 news taking out payday loans

I am at people taking out loans to buy brand new fridge freezers and playstations from Bright House instead of buying secondhand/doing without if they can't afford it. 8 year olds are old enough to understand they cant have the latest thing if their parents can't afford it. If your kids are influenced by ads just turn them off! Isn't this basic common sense?

It is unbelievably stupid when you are on a low income to get into debt to buy 'non essentials'.

No not in this society of instant gratification and most of the people don't even understand the repayment plan as it is confusing and complex. They just see weekly payments that look affordable at first glance. Same with the photo companies letting people who don't work have huge portraits of their children done and letting them pay it off weekly.

Some people have not been taught any financial sense by their own parents.

The poor really ought to learn their place.

We were not well off as children and didn't get many presents - its not about the poor 'knowing their place' at all

I think it's common sense, but I bet yours, like my DC will have a nice Christmas present because we can afford without resorting to pay day loans.

It's a bit like saying if a child is over weight don't give them crisps or chocolate. My kids have just munched their way through a selection box each, which some might consider OK, because they are skinny, butI can hardly criticise others choices.

OP you seem to be drawing a distinction between the deserving and uindeserving poor. Or in your case the finance savvy poor and the no idea poor. You might want to listen to and then remove your head from your backside.

have to say, we have enough money coming in to not worry about the essentials but we are certainly not wealthy. We don't actually celebrate Christmas but DC tend to get smaller gifts and dont have any consoles or ipads etc of their own

we have used them in past if car was in garage or ran out money as bank charges are more than monthly interest we always paid back next month so wonga have been better than banks.

Im sure loots people use them responsibly and small %get into trouble.

Unless they properly expand credit unions as lternative or force state owned banks to show some compassion with overdrafts then its only option people have if no bank of mum and dad.

Its a hp shop they sell everything on there own grossly inflated credit.

I don't understand why 'poor people' (aka the one to blame for like everything) need to go to Brighthouse since I thought they got everything for free off the government including 7878979897" TV's and goats

I had someone at my door the other day telling me to take £200 of shopping vouchers from him, and his colleague would be round in a week to either take the vouchers back if I didn't want them, or if I had spent them they would discuss repayment. He was a pushy arsehole and I told him to bugger off, but I can see how easy it would be to get drawn in, if I was worrying about shopping or christmas I would have been tempted and then afterwards when the guys colleague came round I would have found out the extortionate interest rate.

The methods of these companies need to be seriously looked into.

How are they duped? The ridiculously high APR is there on the adverts so common sense should make people realise the repayments are going to be huge/never ending.
