To think DH could just pick up a chicken drum stick and eat it.

Honestly, is my DH the only one who messes about with a knife and fork and makes a toddler grade fuss about any meat with bones.

Why can't he just pick them up and eat them!

Mine too...the cavemen would be ashamed!

RubyGoat · 14/12/2013 22:18

Has he given a reason for this? Is it that he doesn't like eating greasy food with his hands, is it the bone? Does it actually affect you or any DCs (is he potentially teaching them to be fussy too?)

CMOTDibbler · 14/12/2013 22:19

I don't like meat with bones either (though I'd never fuss about it), and particularly dislike chicken drumsticks tbh

Sirzy · 14/12/2013 22:20

I would use a knife and fork. Not keen on meat on the bone at all but certainly wouldn't just eat it without cutlery

Bearbehind · 14/12/2013 22:22

I'm with your Dh, sorry, can't bare dirty fingers when eating!

Delurkedforthis · 14/12/2013 22:26

can't bear dirty fingers when eating!

Then wash your hands first Behind (in fact do that even if you're using cutlery!)

Totally behind you bunny

IneedAwittierNickname · 14/12/2013 22:26

I'd use a knife and fork too, so would my mum.
I'd eat it with my fingers if I had to, but I rarely choose to eat drumsticks.

BohemianGirl · 14/12/2013 22:28

shudder<

I never eat food with my fingers.

ikk< >ikk< >shudder

not even sandwiches

Bearbehind · 14/12/2013 22:29

Chuckle chuckle forthis

Please tell me how to eat chicken drumsticks with your fingers without getting them gooey...

Delurkedforthis · 14/12/2013 22:33

Well you don't, obviously (though if you are particularly squeamish you could hold it with a paper napkin) you just wash your hands afterwards. The chances are you're not going to die from it, not very much anyway Grin

This thread is making me think of the Friends episode when Monica didn't want people getting her new plates marked in anyway so was asking them to carve their turkey drumsticks in mid air!

SirChenjin · 14/12/2013 22:35

I'm with your DH on this. There must be something drumstick related in my distant past, because I cannot bring myself to eat a drumstick with my fingers . Knife and fork here every time too.

Naoko · 14/12/2013 22:36

I'm with your DH, sorry. I don't make a fuss, but I really don't like eating meat on the bone. It's not squeamishness, I'm not squeamish about where my food comes from (from a farming family!), it's something more fundamental than that and I can't help it. Not about dirty fingers either, I will happily eat sandwiches/chips/pizza with my fingers.

I do 95% of the cooking and food shopping in my house so we don't get meat with bones in. If someone else served it to me I would not be rude about it, I would do my best to eat it like I would with anything else I don't really like and I certainly wouldn't make a fuss because I have manners, but I probably would politely ask for a knife and fork if I thought I could get away with it.

Delurkedforthis · 14/12/2013 22:36

Okay okay, I am obviously a slut. I eat chicken drumsticks with my fingers and it's ages since I used a spoon to eat popcorn!

GoldenGytha · 14/12/2013 22:37

I hate drumsticks, and can't bear any other food that has bones in it,

So no Ribs or Pork Chops for me either.

cardibach · 14/12/2013 22:37

Bohemian not even sandwiches? WHat strange issue is this?

BohemianGirl · 14/12/2013 22:38

Im so with the no bones thing .... never Urrgh

SirChenjin · 14/12/2013 22:39

Bones, skin, stringy sinewy bit, grease, bone - dear god, feeling sick just thinking about it.

MisForMumNotMaid · 14/12/2013 22:41

I have dispatched birds, gutted and cooked them but can't stand bones on my plate. I'm with your DH on this one. If i have to eat, to be polite, its with a knife and fork.

Delurkedforthis · 14/12/2013 22:43

Bloody hell Sirchenjin I seriously wish I could see food with your jaundiced eye, honestly. I might weight a stone or six less if I did

SirChenjin · 14/12/2013 22:47

Sadly it's just chicken drumsticks which do that to me Delurkedforthis

trashcanjunkie · 14/12/2013 22:48

Tell him it's properly proper to use fingers on any type of fowl - even in a restaurant. Somebody more posh than me will be able to vouch for me soon enough.....

SecretSantaFix · 14/12/2013 22:48

What does he do with ribs?

NoComet · 14/12/2013 22:50

Golden
He fusses about chops too and spare ribs are his idea of hell.

He just says meat with gristle, skin and bones hasn't be processed for eating.

He won't strip chicken carcasses either.

OP posts:
issey6cats · 14/12/2013 22:50

im with your Dh i can eat ribs or chops with my fingers but the feel of hot greasy cooked chicken skin grates on my teeth so i use a knife and fork to eat chicken drumsticks if they are hot, but if i skin it first i can eat cold ones with my fingers

GiveItYourBestStockings · 14/12/2013 23:13

YourDHINBU! Stripping chicken carcasses has to be done but it makes me heave.
