AIBU?

AIBU to have a poo in the evening?

Loftyjen · 08/12/2013 23:47

DH claims poo'ing in the evening (after 10pm) is abnormal & that it is weird and IBU to do it.
tbh, I poo when I have time/am able to & with a 3 yo & 3 wo this is most often when he's around, but I don't deliberately hang on until the evening.

He claims that most people are like him & will hold into it rather than poo in the evening - according to him, all poo'ing should be done in the morning (ideally mid-morning going by his w/e habits) & that variation in the time of day that I go is weird & I should just hold on & go in the morning (like him).

Please reassure me that he's the weird one who's BU Wink

When I was a nanny I had to ensure that all the kids 'went' after breakfast. It reminded me of 'Sorry' with Ronnie Corbett. 'Timothy, have you BEEN?' Didn't realise it was widespread. I thought it was eccentricity/a joke.

I poo when the urge takes me.

But - I often find that if I have a long chat to my mum on the phone, the urge takes me. I don't think it's a time of day thing, I think it's a deep rooted psychological thing relating to 1970s toilet training techniques. Maybe there's a trigger word and we've both forgotten it but my subconscious remembers?

There's something immensely satisfying about having a poo at work - getting paid to sit down and perform a bodily function and all that.

I'm going for one now - just thought I'd share Grin

That is crazy. So he chooses to be uncomfortable just not poo in the eve? What difference does it make what time of the day it is.
I have ibs so poo all day everyday Hmm

How the hell does some one hold on?

I don't mean a kiddie, I need to go now, but as an adult, with a loo available why not???

Both OH & I have mild IBS, so where you can and when ever you can. I really don't understand this shyness about having a crap.

Iwaswatchingthat - love the inspirational poster idea - maybe not fridge magnets though!

DH is glad he's inspired so much debate (he looked through the thread happy there were others in agreement with him!).

Go when you need to! Oh, to be able to go to the loo without a toddler doing the Andrex puppy with toilet paper and trying to flush the toilet when you are on it and a baby pulling herself up on the toilet...

McDonalds does it for me. I always have to go for a McShit as soon as I walk through the doors!

Weeping with laughter here. McShit almost finished me off! I am a morning pooer, but there are occasional variations. Holding on just gives you tummy ache. I get occasional bouts of "Mummy tummy" brought on by being unable to shake off a persistent toddler long enough to go to the loo for an unsupervised poo.

Good heavens...I go when I need to and neither my DH or I have any issues with when the other goes. There's so much else in life to get upset about; why add when you poo to the list? ;)
And, just in case, I always keep air freshener in the loo...using it when needed is just polite, right?

I had no idea people had a poo routine and can make themselves go Shock

I go when I need to. Though I do remember me and my ex dp having this conversation as he goes a few times a day whereas I could go 4 days without needing a poo. We debated for ages about who was right Grin

I thought people just pooed when they needed to. I find it really uncomfortable to hold on if I need to go.

Dh goes when he gets in from work every day, but he doesn't hold on cos he also goes at work too.

I pretty much go after every meal, he'd hate me! Never had a problem where or when I go, and can't say dh could give two shits about it either.

Hmm, I'm envious of people who only need to go during home hours. I'm a 10-11am person which means I am often in work, and I hate going at work. I would like to train myself to only poop after 6pm.

I have a friend who will not shit when her boyfriend is in the house, she will leave the house and go to Tesco's just for a dump. And she used to avoid holidays with him for this reason, until she read that it's good etiquette for women to use the hotel lobby toilet for shitting, not the en-suite. (This advice was only to women by the way, the men can poop wherever they please...)

Most people can and will hold their poo when they can't get to a nice toilet. But why hold it overnight when you're in your own home?! Yadnbu

Thants · 11/12/2013 13:07

Do most people hold it until they find a 'nice' loo? How long can you wait!?

Report
whereisshe · 11/12/2013 14:02

People really hold on until they have access to the "right" loo? No wonder there are so many laxative ads on telly...

I found a secret toilet for workplace pooing as well coconutty !

It's just nice to be able to relax and know that none of your colleagues are going to come in and know you've made a horrible stench, then you have to politely smile at each other while washing your hands.

This thread is just too funny!! How can you hold on?? Sometimes I may get a faint gurgle where I think 'hang on think I will need to go soon..' but mostly its fairly urgent.. The phrases 'touching cloth' and 'tortoise head' apply within seconds of feeling the urge. I am fortunate that I am usually a once a day kind of person usually within 10 mins of waking up. Often i play the cup of tea challenge and see if I can finish making my tea before having to dash.. I usually complete the tea but it can be a close call..

However this is not an exact science.. the ten minute rule almost never applies when I stay at my dp's house. I usually leave there within half an hour of waking not wanting to go until about 5 minutes into my car journey home I then have to negotiate rush hour, feeling clammy hot and cold, with my hair standing on end in a blind panic and praying for no more red lights!!
