Conflicts of interest as the Department of Health should be taking action over irresponsible marketing practices.

There are unacceptable conflicts of interest when the Department of Health enters into sponsorship or partnership arrangements with companies such as Nestlé, particularly following the move of responsibility for nutrition policy in England, from the Food Standards Agency to the Department of Health on 1 October 2010.

Nestlé breaks formula marketing rules in the UK - rules for which the Department of Health is responsible.

Nestlé and Danone distribute materials for use in the health care system in the UK, without the required written permission from the Secretary of State for Health. The Department of Health has failed to enforce the rules.

The Change4Life website states: "Nestlé Pure Life will be driving awareness of the importance of good hydration". This is clearly a marketing opportunity for promoting bottled water with the Department of Health's apparent endorsement. However, there is no health reason for promoting bottled water over tap water and environmental reasons for not doing so. The Department of Health messages on good hydration should not be associated with bottled water, and certainly not with a particular company's brand of water.

Ah ha. You didnt answer. You dont care as I suspected. That is at the root of this.

You would though the moment they ever affected your own family.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 10/12/2013 20:32

Posting this from the link as I don't believe you read it in that short time. This proves conflict of interests.

The Department of Health is responsible for nutrition policy in England and for Guidance Notes on the Infant Formula and Follow-on Formula Regulations (2007), which apply to all four countries of the UK. Nestlé has been systematically violating these rules since it entered the UK with its takeover of Pfizer Nutrition/Wyeth and the SMA brand of formula in 2012. Click here to download a poster with Nestlé formla labels from around the world (including the UK), which shows how what Nestlé says and what Nestlé does are very different things.

Department of Health needs to maintain its independence in health policy and to stop people questioning its action - or lack of it - on formula and food marketing practices that undermine health.

Are you getting all accusatory and name calling again lamb
That's what got you deleted last time

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 10/12/2013 20:49

No accusation. No one could have read it in that time except Johnny 5.

OP posts:
captainBeaky · 10/12/2013 20:51

scottish mummy, your arguments are becoming very tedious. You refuse to answer questions directed at you, but expect others to answer yours. Oh, and I have yet to be deleted.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 10/12/2013 22:15

Silence at last.

Here is the link to petition again for those who want to -

Here is a link to the boycott list -

I'm so glad this thread is still here! The longer it stays the more people can read about the evil things nestle are doing.

Armadale · 10/12/2013 23:38

I have just signed the petition, thanks for the link Lamb.

roamer2 · 10/12/2013 23:48

They've also partnered up with cross country trains - all the chocolate and coffee hot choc are nestle

nightbird80 · 11/12/2013 01:06

Agree change for life should avoid them. I would love to but sadly I love munchies too much!

scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 07:36

I will participate actively same as you op,and I'll pop in as I can
You argument hasn't advanced beyond your op and ooh its wrang
Of course you'll tell me to be silent or be snippy about me.you don't like what I'm saying

This of course won't impact upon what I want to say
I don't seek to silence you,so I'd expect the same back

It's an interesting topic,I've got contribution,so have you so lets crack on with it

DziezkoDisco · 11/12/2013 07:54

I'm not sure how someone can't be against nestle if they've read what they do.
SM would you never boycott, no matter what a company did.

scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 08:04

Please do read back I've agreed nestle had/have shocking history.dont dispute that
I'm not against nestle partnering with nhs if delivers health programme of benefit
I'd like to see nestle et al change those practices,of course.

scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 08:10

Individuals can user their consumer clout and boycott brand.wholly support that principle
I also think pressure can be applied by working partnerships, the imposition of business agreements
Have I ever boycotted a brand ?yes.would I boycott a brand again,yes
I dont think the nestle boycott works,I don't boycott nestle

Theodorous · 11/12/2013 08:12

I am all for scottishmummy on this.
What a pile of sixth form bollocks

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 08:40

I didn't not tell you to be silent scottishmummy.

Your contribution hasn't advanced beyond your initial statements either.

Nice to see you actually answer a question directed at you rather than just ignoring and barking out demands of answers to yours.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 09:09

Why did you say silence at last?i won't refrain from posting so lets get that clear
Right so let's crack on with it.we both clearly got lot to say.
On contrary I think I've made a contribution,albeit not universally liked,but a useful contribution

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 09:24

Crack on with what? I believe our little lengthy debate on this thread has met a deadlock. We don't agree. Simple.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 09:33

It's a colloquialism,crack on with it=let's keep going.on contrary I think it's good thread
It's not about you or me.we disagree,so what.that doesn't inhibit or limit posting
Most mn threads will never end in an agreement.the perennial working/sahp for example
