I really don't think a fully grown man dressed in a red suit with a fake beard should be laughing at anyone. Something would tell me his life plan didn't go to schedule.

curlew · 06/12/2013 22:57

Santa should know better- but maybe calling a blond pale skinned child Mario was asking for trouble just a bit........?!

LimitedEditionLady · 06/12/2013 23:34

This santa was clearly an imposter.
Unless everyone lied to me as a child and santa is really a jerk.
What sort of a name is santa anyway?Pah.

mollypup · 06/12/2013 23:38

I know of a very erm tangerine hoop earrings type who has two children named Giorgio and Armani. I kid you not! She was genuinely going to call her third Versace!

WeileWeileWaile · 06/12/2013 23:44

When my DS was younger he told everyone he met that his name was Mario, so desperate was he to be called that.

If we ever took him to have his face painted, he'd only ever have a moustache painted on and end up looking like Freddie Mercury

DavidHarewoodsFloozy · 06/12/2013 23:52

You should have kicked him in the balls sack.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/12/2013 23:55

Mario is a perfectly ordinary name

Versace is beyond daft to the far side of daftville in daftland

Caitlin17 · 07/12/2013 00:09

Oh, dear I'm a 100% sure I'd have said " really " too.

TheGinLushMinion · 07/12/2013 00:18

Shit, literally pmsl thinking of Mario in a scouse accent-& no I'm not even slightly sorry.

OP you have to be absolutely Deffo 100% bona fida Italiano to pull off Mario which clearly you are not... If it helps I wanted Valentino for DS (as in the lovleyness that is Rossi) DH (who is in part Italian) did Hmm face & said no.

Caitlin17 · 07/12/2013 00:19

Oh sorry I was still on Versace. I used to date a boy whose mother was Italian and father was Scottish and he and his little brother both had Italian first names and a Scottish surname. No-one thought anything of it.

YouTheCat · 07/12/2013 00:42

Mario is a good, proper name.

Versace is a surname.

kennyp · 07/12/2013 00:44

but ffs who actually calls their son "santa"? i bet he had the piss ripped out of him/a sponsorship deal with Fanta.

neunundneunzigluftballons · 07/12/2013 00:49

OP are you sure he didn't just say ho ho ho

3FrenchHenD19s · 07/12/2013 05:40

Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin v funny you lot! Poor Mario's initials are MAD too but that's for an additional flaming for me on another thread!

In the US, Mario would not even be on the radar of unusual names.

I work with the public and have encountered kids named Thyme Bomb, Cherrybomb Fox, Dior, Nautica, De'Vangelia (the "v" and "i" were both silent), etc. Oh, and one unfortunate little boy named Murder.

steff13 · 07/12/2013 05:48

Oh, and one named Sindasia Sparkle.

CeQueLEnfer · 07/12/2013 05:54

I got angry with Santa reading this thread. Then I suddenly remembered Santa isn't real and he was just a guy dressed up Blush

Mario Balotelli is an Italian football player who I wouldn't like to cross! Mario is also a popular name across all of Europe - including Germany & the Netherlands. It doesn't matter what colour your son's hair/skin is, Mario is a traditional, "proper," name - one he can grow up with.
If I were you 3 French Hens, I'd just ignore. Usually F.C. means Father Christmas, but not in his case, obviously Grin

rabbitlady · 07/12/2013 06:42

could have been worse. could have been gerardo.

OhMerGerd · 07/12/2013 08:38

Ooh I like Mario. I think it's a lovely manly name. I don't understand why anyone would laugh or be thinking wtf? Unless you live a very sheltered life surely you meet people with all sorts of names?

And what does is matter whether your boy looks Italian or not? I didn't realise you had to choose ethnically specific names for DC and my parents must have been blissfully oblivious to this rule too.

Bearing all of this in mind and that Santa delivers all over the world so he'd be used to every sort of name, I think the issue here is that you've been duped into taking your DS to see a fake! I'd go back to that store and explain how you've rumbled them because of this elementary mistake by their fake Santa and get your money back.

CarolPrankster · 07/12/2013 14:35

Oh dear, my poor DS has had this sort of reaction for all of his 13 yeas Blush luckily he likes his name and has perfected the dead pan 'yeah what of it' look Xmas Hmm

diddl · 07/12/2013 14:43

I can't think what sheltered lives people must have lived to think that Mario is at all unusual!
