to not understand Lush products

I would never buy then for myself because I can barely walk past the store without getting a headache from the fumes but I got a gift set for my birthday. This contains 5 bars of goop. One said it was bubble bath so I merrily threw it in the bath where it frothed for a bit, turned the water pink and made lots of lovely bubbles BUT there is still a huge lump of sticky pink mess left behind. What am I meant to do with this? It's all well and good being sanctimonious about using no packaging (not true though considering these goop bars were wrapped in 2 separate cardboard boxes each stuffed with filling) but I can hardly leave a half digested splodge of mess on the side of the bath for my DD to eat at bath time can I?

D you not understand them or just not like them?

There's not a lot to understand about bubble bath.

Morgause · 06/12/2013 09:41

Awful stuff.

YANBU

lottieandmia · 06/12/2013 09:42

I've never bought anything from there.

SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 06/12/2013 09:42

I have a gift set but wont use it. No doubt allergic to it

scarletforya · 06/12/2013 09:42

Flush it down the toilet? It will make the pipes nice and pink!

SlimJiminy · 06/12/2013 09:42

I hate walking past Lush. Stinks. I don't get it either. YANBU.

YourHandInMyHand · 06/12/2013 09:43

Confused Don't really understand what happened with your bubble bar.

I like their bath bombs, DS loves the little blue robot one.

Topaz25 · 06/12/2013 09:43

I find a whole bubble bath bar is too much for one bath and it's best to break a piece off, that might be why it didn't fully dissolve. They should put that on the packaging if they don't already. I think they try to avoid plastic packaging, cardboard can be recycled. That's why they use paper bags etc.

QuintessentialShadows · 06/12/2013 09:44

I cant even go into the shops. I tried once, I saw the textures and the products and just thought "yuck". That was before the stink brought on a migraine and I suffered in a dark room for the rest of the day.

But to be honest, looking at all the bright colours, you know it is all chemicals.

I bet teens love it as much as I loved my Strawberry perfume from Body Shop! Grin

Topaz25 · 06/12/2013 09:44

I like Lush because of the nice smells and natural ingredients, it's also really reassuring to me that their products aren't tested on animals. They're not for everyone though.

Mumraathenoisylion · 06/12/2013 09:45

Amusing because they got in a bit of trouble for the amount of packaging they use....they don't tend to talk about that though.

Mumraathenoisylion · 06/12/2013 09:45

That said I love their products as do my dds.

IHaveSeenMyHat · 06/12/2013 09:45

I used to like Lush but I now think it's a load of overpriced shite.

But the bubble bar? You aren't supposed to chuck the whole thing in, just crumble a bit under a running tap.

MooncupGoddess · 06/12/2013 09:47

I thought it was illegal to test cosmetic products on animals now anyway?

£12 for a bottle of shower gel Hmm

YoMamma · 06/12/2013 09:54

Ah! Breaking a bit off makes sense. Why didn't I think of that? Or, why didn't they include some bloody instructions?!

Goop is now wrapped in kitchen foil in case anyone needs a goop-update.

It is disgusting.

I also likes to give the impression of being natural.

In face most products are one ingredient short of being ZOFLORA! Grin

Feminine · 06/12/2013 09:59

*in fact

Bunbaker · 06/12/2013 10:03

"I like Lush because of the nice smells and natural ingredients"

I like the idea of natural ingredients. Sadly I have never come across a Lush product I like the smell of. I loathe toiletries that smell of anything edible and prefer floral smells. I once had some bubblegum stuff, but it just smelt like Calpol to me.

Lj8893 · 06/12/2013 10:03

Ahh I love lush! But can understand why some people don't.

Saying that, i have to have a completely clear head to go in there though otherwise I get a migraine!!

GiraffesAndButterflies · 06/12/2013 10:03

Well I'd say YABU, but then I used to work there so I'm probably biased Grin

I love the products but admittedly the shops can be a bit overwhelming when you're basically smelling all the essential oils at once.

Feminine · 06/12/2013 10:05

They are not natural products.

GiraffesAndButterflies · 06/12/2013 10:06

I loathe toiletries that smell of anything edible and prefer floral smells.

Agree with you- they do have lots of floral stuff but unfortunately the bubblegum smells are very popular!! Hmm

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 06/12/2013 10:08

I love the stuff, but the shop is a bit of an assault on the senses I agree. Dd loves their FUN and it smells yum.

Topaz25 · 06/12/2013 10:10

The Cosmetics Directive bans animal testing of cosmetics in Europe but the Cosmetics Directive only covers tests that are conducted specifically for cosmetics purposes. Cosmetics ingredients are also subject to testing under REACH chemical legislation. REACH has not been updated since it was written in 2007.

Also I prefer to support companies that have a consistent policy against animal testing and have campaigned against it, like Lush, over companies that are simply being forced to comply with the new law.

And there are large multinational companies like Unilever (who own Dove among others) that produce a variety of products and test their other products on animals.

It's a complex area, which is why I find it reassuring that Lush has a consistent policy against animal testing.

mrselgar · 06/12/2013 10:11

I have never found anything in there that doesn't smell vile. Not just a bit unpleasant, vile.
I think it's overpriced, revolting rubbish.
