to think life in the MN world as an adult is rather boring?

Definitely not everyone but it feels to be a large percentage feel that -

You only should celebrate your birthday until you are 10. Anything after that and it's odd.

Why are you buying Christmas presents for adults, only buy for children? So not adults aren't allowed presents at Christmas.

Going out on a Saturday night even for just one drink seems very frowned upon and

Life as an adult is pajamas on at 7 every night of the week, not celebrating your birthday and not getting presents at Christmas.

  1. Kinda agree with that. I'm not a birthday fuss person though. I'm a bit rolly eyed at grown ups who want a hoo haa. Sorry, but that's just me.
  1. Kinda agree with that too - it's usually about the money (or lack of), and the kids have got to come first.
  1. Disagree with that and have fallen out with people on here before, who insist I'm immature and selfish for wanting a social life and going out. Their loss I say.

Must take offence at all random comments from strangers.

If you tease your DC you are messing them up for life!

Good job I don't live life by MN rules! Grin
I love birthdays and Christmas presents.
Don't agree with all I read on here buy I like that there's a lot of people I 'get' and that might 'get' me too.

Here in Germany YOU are expected to invite everyone over and treat them to your birthday cake that you bought yourself! So I have actually taken this to heart and now I invite people out to celebrate on my birthday! So self-centered and un-MNsie. I had a right larf with 10 friends on my birthday at an excellent restaurant round the corner here that I never go to otherwise.

Don't play the martyr, noone appreciates it, live a little, live a lot! I have no problems there as I live in a wine region In Germnay and am surrounded by wineries.

Crowler · 28/11/2013 20:40

OP, I was pretty surprised by the "how much do you drink" thread if that's what you're referring to. Here at Chez Crowler, we're skimming exceeding the NHS guidelines.

ThereWasOnceAGirl · 28/11/2013 20:41

I just think life as an adult is already pretty shit responsibility wise - paying bills, mortgages, working - even washing your own clothes! Grin

But just seems lots of people on here seem to think you odd if you'd like to celebrate your birthday.

But I'm not into birthday or Xmas presents for myself. I prefer to buy my own things

We make a huge fuss of birthdays in our house, no matter how old the birthday person. Same at Christmas, in fact I think kids get enough at Christmas so if you can only afford to buy for one or the other you should buy for the adult who will get nowhere near as much. And I like a good night out, so there.

I am partial to getting into my PJ's as soon as I get in from work on a week night though.

MrsOakenshield · 28/11/2013 20:43

yes, I don't know anyone in RL who doesn't like to celebrate their birthday or get presents for birthdays and Christmas. Thank god.

ThereWasOnceAGirl · 28/11/2013 20:44

No I've not actually seen that thread Crowler, I don't think MN minds you drinking, but going out to have a drink is viewed as bizarre. I once even saw one comment saying people only do this because they are looking for something in life Hmm

And Honey shame on you! How dare you celebrate your birthday. I bet you even got presents too Grin

I think there is (thankfully) a sizeable amount of people on Mumsnet who like getting pissed and having a laugh

But I would think that as I've drunk half a bottle of port

Don't forget showering every hour, on the hour.

ThereWasOnceAGirl · 28/11/2013 20:45

I saw a thread of someone talking about an ungrateful sister or sil because she didn't sound happy with the gift ideas and lots of people were saying -

Why are buying for an adult? Hmm

I had a whole thread to myself last week for my birthday, as well as a long thread about how wonderful Novemberers are and how even more wonderful Scorpios are.

Mumsnetters know how to do birthdays

They clearly don't, as obvs February is the best month, and an Aquarius is far more superior than a Scorpio.

OP posts:
purrtrillpadpadpad · 28/11/2013 20:50

Definitely with you op.

Christmas is for EVERYONE. I don't want to hear this sanctamonious 'oh but it's for the children' claptrap ANYMORE. You'd think every child was a ruddy cheeked street urchin, poor wee children. Arse. My niece is about to receive an ipad for Christmas. An IPAD. That's a months rent. I am about to be technologically and financially eclipsed by a FOUR YEAR OLD.

pictish · 28/11/2013 20:51

Yes I've this sort of shit spouted at me before. Hmm
Of course in a sense - we are looking for something in life. Namely the company of friends, a good laugh and a letting down of the hair.
How pathetic we are with our friends and fun. Poor us. Grin
