I know a thread about a thread is a no no. so I'm not defining which threads I mean...but seriously, whats going on? Some of the threads are wind ups for sure, someone out there is having a laugh...

OP posts:
DeepThought · 27/11/2013 23:24

do you mean the ones with hands and begging bowls out, the hard-luck stories? or the drama-llama bleaters? or what?

Pancakeflipper · 27/11/2013 23:24

Or all of the above?

NotAnotherPackedLunch · 27/11/2013 23:25

YANBU at all.

I've been wondering if there is a bit of a team effort going on with these odd threads. Hmm

IComeFromALandDownUnder · 27/11/2013 23:25

I have no idea what you mean either. Any clues?

ssd · 27/11/2013 23:25

eh yes, exactly!

some things just dont seem true...you can spot the fake shit miles away.

OP posts:
DeepThought · 27/11/2013 23:28

lolol at all of the above, PancakeF

ICameOnTheJitney · 27/11/2013 23:30

Yes and some are genuine cries for help. From posters who've been quietly about for a number of years.

Bogeyface · 27/11/2013 23:31

I have noticed a few blatant begging ones recently and was mortified when I realised that my thread about the price of Lego might have been seen as such!

Also the ones about whether £StupidMoney is enough to spend is make me indescribably angry. The number of referals to food banks in my town has doubled in the last year, I am sure that some of those people will be on MN. A little consideration that their £500 per child budget is in the realms of fantasy for many wouldnt go amiss!

My heart goes out to anyone who is genuinely struggling. THanks to saving up since last Xmas and canny shopping we will be ok, but many wont. That some people would exploit the current economic struggles of others to try and get freebies from strangers that they dont need sickens me.

VworpVworp · 27/11/2013 23:31

So why don't you just flag them to MNHQ? Hmm

NoComet · 27/11/2013 23:34

Hmm slightly tarnished tinsel here too.

Pancakeflipper · 27/11/2013 23:36

Bogey - at this time of year the radar starts spinning for the sob stories on this site. I have been around here ( low boring profile) and I saw your lego one and I didn't see it as a blagging thread but an observation at the cost of lego ( not send me buckets full please and £50 on top please). And what an exciting conversation we had about other types of plastic bricks that are available. Don't be mortified.

Sadly the true people can get lost amongst the blaggers (who do appear) but I also think the true people do mainly shine through.

QuintessentialShadows · 27/11/2013 23:36

Apparently 9 million people are in bad debt?

What are they turning the country in to?

DoubleLifeIsALifeOfSorts · 27/11/2013 23:40

I had a horrible shock when I posted about something dreadful happening to me and the mumsnet standard post came soon after 'thanks for those who have reported this thread but we have no reason to believe that she is anything other than who she says she is...'

I hadn't asked for ANYTHING and it hurts to think people read my post and thought 'begging post from the conman/ woman/ fucking bitch :(

So I'm not sure people can tell as soon as they read something. I needed (need) support, not handouts and although I tried to be all mature about it on the thread, it really hurt. I've been on here for years btw, which I think is why it was upsetting.

Bogeyface · 27/11/2013 23:40

We know how to live dont we? :o

ERmm, nope, tried several times and dont get it! What exactly is your point Quint?

Bogeyface · 27/11/2013 23:43

Double that is awful :(
I hope you have got the support you need since then. Flowers

QuintessentialShadows · 27/11/2013 23:44

Sorry Bogeyface, apparently I tried and failed miserably to post in modern Scandinavian Haiki. Sad

By "they" I meant Le Monsieur Cameron and his merry gang, not people in debt.

Doublelife I did not think yours was a begging thread. I hope you are ok.

Bogeyface · 27/11/2013 23:46

GhettoPrincess001 · 27/11/2013 23:46

OP, I'm probably not allowed to comment on a thread I've just been commenting or re: Christmas but.....

There's a poster who seems to see a horrible broke Christmas coming for her family because they are broke and her husband is unable to work due to his injuries at present. Posters are genuinely trying to help. The OP of the thread I'm referring to has not asked for money or anything else but advice which she's getting.

MurderOfGoths · 27/11/2013 23:48

Oh double sweetheart, it was obvious yours wasn't a begging thread, try not to let it get to you. How are you doing today anyway?

Bogeyface · 27/11/2013 23:49

Ah! Now I get it (although not the reference to modern Scandinavian Haiki, bit thick me!)

Totally agree. Bad debt will always happen, but how many are as a result of the dire economic situation in this country?

decaffwithcream · 27/11/2013 23:49

I thought of Cameron and his cronies as soon as I read that, but I also get asked "who?" When muttering darkly about "him" and "them"...

ShylaMcCall · 27/11/2013 23:49

DoubleLife I saw that and felt terrible for you. It made me wince because there was no suggestion that the standard warning was needed.

QuintessentialShadows · 27/11/2013 23:49

Scandinavian haiku - long sentences with seemingly nothing in common.

Bogeyface · 27/11/2013 23:50

Hiaku, that makes more sense, I did wonder what Haiki was :o

MarcelineTheVampireQueen · 27/11/2013 23:51

I remember posting around this time last year, my dp had got paid and I had taken about two grand out of thebank to pay rent wwhich was 700 quid and some to shop for Christmas. I always take money out we get charged for transaction here.

The first shop I went into, my purse was robbed. I spent hours at the guards do went on mn and said what was going on looking for a bit of sympathy you know? Battery went dead snd I thought no more about the thread, presumed it wouldn't be answered like most of mine. How wrong I was!!

The thread was four pages ling of me being called all manner of troll, thread was reported umpteen times, pms sent calling me a cunt, some lovely ones offering me things! We were grand we would survive! I was just looking for a rant! Mn had to come on and say i was ok!

In hindsight it coukd have easily been construed as a begging thread, dp lost his job a week later and our car caught on fire the week after that! Typical Christmas begging fodder!
