to allow a kitten to sleep on the bed

This will probably sound rather ridiculous but DP is really annoyed with me for allowing our kitten to sleep on our bed. . He thinks I am a freak and acting like a 90 year old woman and it is not the done thing. I think she is lovely and cuddly and it is nice to have her snuggled up especially as DP often sleeps on the sofa because he is in a strop ( totally unrelated to the feline btw. AUBU or is he the weirdo.

He is the weirdo... however it is a slippery slope. Your kitten will grow up and rule your bed. Mine likes to take over the duvet.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/11/2013 10:33

You are talking nonsense, I am afraid. You are not allowing the kitten to sleep on the bed - the kitten is allowing you to sleep there! WinkGrin

Not for nothing is it said that dogs have owners, but cats have staff! Your dh is just going to have to accept that you are both now owned by a cat, and what the cat wants, goes.

PestoFlashissimos · 27/11/2013 10:34

There's nothing nicer than having your cat or kitten sleeping on the bed IMO

i have cats and non of them are allowed to sleep on my bed i love them to bits but bedrooms are for people i used to let my cat sleep on the bed till the day i was sitting in bed reading and a bloody great flea jumped on my book that was that no cats on the bed, sorry but your husband is right

Blossomflowers · 27/11/2013 10:36

Thanks latand for what it worth he absolutely loves the kitten who seems to take great delight on sitting on his chest when watching TV ( little traitor)

My husband was the same when we first got our kitten and banned him to the kitchen at night. It didn't take long for the cat to get his own way though and now he gets on our bed when he wants :)

Let the kitten on now, he will win in the end anyway!

StrattersInTheTARDIS · 27/11/2013 10:36

He's a nutter. Cats are supposed to sleep on beds, poor lonely little kitten.

bundaberg · 27/11/2013 10:37

it's fine if you both agree and if you're prepared for the long run!

kitten might be lovely now, but when it starts waking you up by kneading and clawing your face at 5am every day you might wish you'd not started this Grin

plus the risk of fleas. gah

plenty of people do let their animals on the bed tho.

myroomisatip · 27/11/2013 10:37

Well I got rid of my "D"H and got two kittens and one of them is always lying at the bottom of my bed when I wake up. I love it :)

intitgrand · 27/11/2013 10:40

I wouldn't.Kittens are very scratchy,I seriously would not want scratching in the night.Or also when it decides it has had enough of sleeping and wants to play at 2am

hiddenhome · 27/11/2013 10:41

Kittens and cats are supposed to sleep in bed. Where else would they sleep? My favourite thing is it wake up to find a cat sleeping on my pillow. I snuggle my nose into her fur and go back to sleep again, it's one of life's beautiful pleasures Smile

Binkyridesagain · 27/11/2013 10:44

All the beds in this house belong to the cat, they are his and you are not allowed in them without his permission, nor are you allowed to make them unless he dictates it. If you choose to ignore this then you must be prepared to accept the consequences which could be meted out at any time.

The consequences have been waking you at 3am by digging his paw into your ear, ramming his paw up your nose, batting the end of your nose repeatedly, killing toes, delivering dead mice to side of the bed, wrapping your head in a death grip or the scariest of them all sitting on the pillow, at the side of your head, staring.

You have been warned! Grin

livinginwonderland · 27/11/2013 10:49

I think it's unfair to have the cat sleep there when DP doesn't want him there. It's his bed too. I would be pretty annoyed if someone told me an animal was gonna be sleeping in my bed whether I liked it or not.

Blossomflowers · 27/11/2013 10:50

Oh good, seems most of you think I am not weird then. Smile I would let her sleep in DS's room but he has fish and kittens and fish do not go together. She makes me really happy actually and so far has been really good, no midnight attacks so far

I have got 3 adult cats and most nights at least two of them sleep on my bed. I love hearing them purr and snore and I absolutely love it if I wake up and find one cuddled up right next to me all cosy and snug - it is just adorable!! Smile

misskatamari · 27/11/2013 10:56

I'm with hidden - waking up to cat on the pillow is so lovely Grin

Ours sleep on our bed and one usually comes up for a dance and sleep on my belly when I get in. Silly DH - tell him he can keep the sofa and you and kitty go and enjoy the cosy bed

changeforthebetter · 27/11/2013 10:59

I used to have an H who didn't like the cats sleeping on the bed. My cats remain and he buggered off years ago (tempted away by booze and shagging around - not because of the moggies)

YANBU - both of you - compromise? Fluffy cat bed in your bedroom?

For all those people who keep cats out of bedrooms, what do you think happens when you go out...........?! Grin

Our cat sleeps with us. She starts off in her own bed in our room, then she jumps on our bed some time in the night. It's lovely.

kali110 · 27/11/2013 11:05

Our cat sleeps by my feet or by/on dp head

Writerwannabe83 · 27/11/2013 11:08

I'm loving reading these posts - cats are the best pets EVER! Grin

I've got one of mine, called Brian, lying next to me on my bed now and he looks so comfy and settled. I think I'd let my cats sleep anywhere they fancied - bar kitchen units of course Grin

Vintagecakeisstillnice · 27/11/2013 11:16

If the cat can't sleep on the bed who warms it up for you?

My cat is very kind to me and goes to bed an hour before and sleeps right where I put my feet. When I get in to bed he comes for a cuddle, and I have a lovely hot spot for my toes. I'm very spoilt Grin

My DP objects but only cause he's jealous and has failed in his attempts to lure him over to his side of the bed.

thebody · 27/11/2013 11:26

we are slaves to our 2 cats. the old one sleeps in the kitchen but meows for a night feed at around 2am while the littie one sleeps in between us and snuggles into dhs hairy arm pit yeuk!!!

I have tried controlled miaowing but they have broken me!

they rule us. watch yourself! Grin

DidoTheDodo · 27/11/2013 11:27

Really? I say keep the kitten and get the man a basket.

Birdsgottafly · 27/11/2013 11:27

I have always had cats and dogs, cats do what they like.

Your DH needs to get it out of his head that he is in charge.

You can keep the kitten off your bed, but that doesn't mean that you won't get a nights sleep, once it gets a bit bigger.

My cat sleeps under my duvet, though. The dog looks at me in disbelief about what the cat does. She has us all well trained.

You don't tell cats what to do, they allow you to care for them, if you aren't up to scratch, they piss off Grin.
