to allow a kitten to sleep on the bed

This will probably sound rather ridiculous but DP is really annoyed with me for allowing our kitten to sleep on our bed. . He thinks I am a freak and acting like a 90 year old woman and it is not the done thing. I think she is lovely and cuddly and it is nice to have her snuggled up especially as DP often sleeps on the sofa because he is in a strop ( totally unrelated to the feline btw. AUBU or is he the weirdo.

Do you have just the one kitten? He's probably lonely and wants to cuddle with you! When they're in a litter kittens do everything together, to suddenly go to a home on their own can leave them feeling alone. As long as he's not disruptive then I'd definitely have him sleeping there with you.

thebody Grin Grin at 'controlled miaowing" - that made me laugh out loud!!!

lookatmybutt · 27/11/2013 11:30

As long as they're no trouble (or not too much because everyone knows cats = trouble of some sort), it's fine to let cats sleep on your bed (especially baby ones!).

When I had my three big boys, they all had their own spot on the bed, plus it made me nice and warm in the winter.

And when I got my ginger lad as a kitten, I let him sleep on my bed - which did end up being my head, face, etc. I'd wake up in the night with this furry ginger beard where he fell asleep on my neck Grin He's not allowed on the bed at the moment because he's going through a naughty phase - he's not yet two. He keeps diving under the duvet and biting my toes. He doesn't realise he's not a tiny baby anymore, but a huge ginger monster.

LittleBairn · 27/11/2013 11:30

YABU its his bed too he should have a say its unfair to dismiss his feelings.

aciddrops · 27/11/2013 11:34

Just put DH out at night so you can't hear his whingeing. You can let him in for breakfast in the morning.

oldgrandmama · 27/11/2013 11:35

My cat sleeps on my bed - she's a great foot warmer. My favourite catty quote is: 'Cats are kindly masters, just so long as you remember your place.' Paul Gray

BenNJerry · 27/11/2013 11:35

I agree with him I'm afraid. But I detest cats with a passion. I wouldn't like any animal sleeping on the bed, I'm quite neurotic and would hate animal hairs on my bed... also, my feelings are it's still an animal at the end of the day, it's not the boss of the house. Maybe I'm the weirdo, but that's just me!

My parents have a dog. He isn't allowed in the bedrooms. The doors are kept shut so he can't go in when they are out. Grin

YANBU - cats always sleep on beds :)
We only have 1 cat, she generally sleeps on our feet, but if she is bored with our bed she will wander off to one of our DD's rooms and sleep on their pillow with them.
When we go to bed she pops outside, then comes upstairs to settle down for the night.
In the morning she gets up and goes outside (and tries to go to school with DDs) then she settles downstairs usually in the dining room as that's where I work from, if I forget to open the door she sits and asks.
At 4pm she gets up and starts fussing for her tea, she will sit on my keyboard, lap etc until she is fed.
I am my cat's slave.

lookatmybutt · 27/11/2013 11:36

I do allow Princess Honey on my bed because she's only little and is also more civilised. I do get worried I'll accidentally boot her up the jacksy because I can't tell when she's there.

The Biscuit Monster just gets bored in the night and expects me to entertain him.

GoldenGytha · 27/11/2013 11:41

I have three cats, and they all sleep on my bed, wouldn't have it any other way Smile

Nothing lovelier than snuggling down with the three of them, and as I am divorced with no DH or DP to think about, I can do what I want!

Blithereens · 27/11/2013 11:51

I have two. One sleeps in her own bed but jumps on for a cuddle as soon as she thinks I'm awake, and the other sleeps all night in the crook of my knee. It's lovely. It does mean I can't get out of my side of the bed though, and I make DH move to let me out instead of disturbing the cat. DH goes along with it too, the soppy bugger Grin

I kid you not! managed cc with 4 children but the cat defeated me. Grin.

WinterWinds · 27/11/2013 18:26

My old cat used to come to bed with us, climbing under the duvet and laying his head on the pillow. Would stay there all night.

But with the ones we have now, We would let them sleep in our bed if it meant we could actually sleep!
One sounds like a tractor when he purrs and he can purr for hours, another is a ton weight and he likes to sleep on your chest and the two kittens get great amusement from attacking your feet/Face at 4am so for these reasons our cats are banished from our room when we want to sleep.

They go in with dd instead!! ( but she can sleep through anything!!!)

poppysqueak · 27/11/2013 19:07

Kitten on bed?
Of course, where else would they sleep. Our two have their own cashmere special blanket on the bed.

Cleorapter · 27/11/2013 19:31

I wish I could have my kitten sleep on the bed. But at 3am when we move her feet she thinks it's playtime, and there's nothing more annoying to wake up to a kitten chewing on your toes...

I don't think it's unreasonable for your DH to not want the kitten there though.

sashh · 27/11/2013 19:48

Leave the bastard (dh not the kitten).

Caitlin17 · 27/11/2013 20:04

We have 4 and at all times through the night one or more of the 3 boys will be on our bed. One goes under the duvet. The girl cat never comes in but she's usually in DS (empty) bed. The kitten will be lonely.

catsmother · 27/11/2013 20:20

Errrmm, sometimes I have all 5 of mine on the bed, though on average it's two, and the others are dotted about elsewhere. I do all I can to ensure they don't have fleas. When my girl cat was a kitten, I used to roll up one of my fleeces so she had a "nest" to snuggle up in, but that went on the bed next to my shoulder.

Cats are great hot water bottles - and usually well behaved - though they obviously believe humans are entitled to 6 inches of bed and the rest of it is theirs. I don't care, it's snuggly and I find the sound of purring as I drop off very relaxing.

One little kitten isn't going to take up much space is she ?

(... and cats don't usually snore, fart, grind their teeth, poke you in the back etc etc .... unlike DHs).

thebody · 27/11/2013 20:37

cats are just fantastic!

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 27/11/2013 20:44

Keep the kitten on the bed

Its when they get as big as my lovely fat huge fucker that takes up all my leg space black cat is that it becomes a bit more of an issue. ie between him and DH there isn't much bed left for me!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 27/11/2013 20:49

What is this concept of 'allow'? Has anyone explained it to cats? Mine does what the bloody hell he likes!

bellybuttonfairy · 27/11/2013 20:50

No chance. I have 2 cats and there is no way they are sleeping on my bed. Their paws are full of little bits of cat shit, their fur has flea eggs and they leave little bits of their fur and dead skin cells clearly where they once laid.

I still love my cats tho!

Silverdaisy · 27/11/2013 20:52

Blossom - I think this is a stealth boast about your kitten Smile . Feeling very broody for a kitten now. I love it when the cats sleep on the bed, I daren't move in case it disrupts them. Slighty daft, but it makes me smile.

lambbone · 27/11/2013 20:54

Pinching a cat off someone else's bed is a serious crime in our house. Being selected by one of the moggies as a bed companion is considered a great honour. Throw a cat off the bed? Never gonna happen.
