to allow a kitten to sleep on the bed

This will probably sound rather ridiculous but DP is really annoyed with me for allowing our kitten to sleep on our bed. . He thinks I am a freak and acting like a 90 year old woman and it is not the done thing. I think she is lovely and cuddly and it is nice to have her snuggled up especially as DP often sleeps on the sofa because he is in a strop ( totally unrelated to the feline btw. AUBU or is he the weirdo.

My little prince Mr Cory the fat tabby slumbers with me nightly. He is the ideal bed companion and super cuddly when you wake up. Moggiedon.

Catmint · 27/11/2013 21:00

We let the kitten come to bed with us. I love it as I tend to wake alot in the night and get anxious. So, a cuddly friend is good. But if she starts to misbehave she gets shut downstairs.

DD has just started begging for the kitten to sleep with her. So we let them fall asleep together and then remove kitten once DD asleep. Actually, that reminds me.....

puntasticusername · 27/11/2013 21:02

Yeah. We used to let the cat sleep on our bed.

Until the Great (Admittedly UTI-Related) Weeing On DH In The Middle Of The Night Incident of 2003.

Never again.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 27/11/2013 21:04

My sleeps on the bed, sort of.

The first night was a nightmare. She thought the duvet was alive and spent 8 solid hours pouncing and "digging" all over it. No sleep. DH locked her out for the new week.

Tried again, she slept under the covers against my back for a week. She didn't move all night and was really well-behaved. Except I didn't sleep as I was scared of crushing her.

Now her igloo is on my bedside table and I put a hot water bottle in it for her and she stays there all night, about a foot from my pillow.

Sometimes she pounces on my eyelids during the night though, or biffs me in the head. Or I wake up because her nose is pressed against mine.

Worse is when I wake up naturally and she is sitting by my pillow, staring at me.

But I love her. Can't imagine not hearing that little lawnmower noise as I go off to sleep.

Well dd and I got two kittens about six years ago. They were sooo tiny but I said a condition of getting them was that they had a basket in the kitchen at night and would not be allowed in the bedroom. It was a very cold night and DH, who was totally anti kitten, suggested at bed time that it was very cold and they were very tiny and they really needed to come upstairs with us and keep warm near us on the bed Grin. And they have every since.

The adopted cat who moved in is allowed to sleep on the bedroom chair.

mrsWast · 27/11/2013 21:13

we have recently bowed to ms stella's demands to sleep in with us. it's better than lying there listening to her strip the paint off the bottom of the door.

she curls up on my hip and purrs me to sleep, then inches her way in so we invariably wake up banished to the edges while she sprawls in the middle like a roman fucking emperor.

oh, who am i kidding? my kitty rules the roost and she's been very patient in training us....

BadgersRetreat · 27/11/2013 21:22

5 years ago we adopted a 2 yr old cat - second night with us she went to bed with us and has done every night since...she now has her own blanket across the end of the bed.

she snores Grin

issey6cats · 27/11/2013 21:43

the person who asked what do the cats do when im out the house the bedroom door is firmly shut so they cant get in to the bedroom, they have choice of anywhere else in the house they want to park their furry bums but my bedroom is my room and not theirs

Salmotrutta · 27/11/2013 21:57

No cats on beds here.

They are Night Prowlers who stay out partying until dawn.

They sneer at Molly coddled cats I'm afraid.

whois · 27/11/2013 22:15

Mum and dad never allowed the cats in our bedrooms when I was a child. Cats slept in the utility room with a cat flap and access to outside hunting. Out cats did enjoy going out at night for a bit of small animal murder.

Dad used to get up in the morning first to go to work, feed them and let them upstairs and I've got many photos of me in bed squashed against the wall with a cat stretched out taking over most of the bed! Lovely for the mornings but not for all night.

TooOldForGlitter · 27/11/2013 22:19

I always had my cats on the bed. I dont let the dog but IMO thats different. Nothing nicer than a purry furball on your bed.

RogueRebel · 27/11/2013 22:50

I love my cat sleeping on my bed. he's old enough to behave ( 8 so no waking me up) but if I do wake up I'm greeted immediately by a big meow and cuddles, he also has his cat bed in the room so its his choice. but like others have said a cat will do what it likes regardless of any human feelings
Fleas have never been a problem but I'm pretty strict about keeping up to date on all vet care and treatments.

ErrorError · 27/11/2013 22:50

I am currently lying diagonally in my bed with my legs sticking out, because one of my 3 cats (aka 'The Barrel') has decided she prefers the middle tonight. I wouldn't mind as much if she wasn't so farty. The gods have decided I'm afraid. You're just the staff now!

BillyBanter · 27/11/2013 22:54

What is the point in owning a cat if you are not going to let it sneak into your bed?

sashh · 28/11/2013 08:51

issey6cats

Your cats are clearly defective if a closed door is stopping them.

LadyCelia · 28/11/2013 10:15

We have to have the kitten and cat in bed with us, it saves having the heating on overnight, as they both go under the duvet and cuddle up on my feet. They're Korats, so very very hot.
Mind you, we don't have a choice. They will open the door no matter what & come in. Your DH is being very unreasonable, but I'm sure he will see the error of his ways soon!

FreudiansSlipper · 28/11/2013 10:20

well soon you shall be sharing your kittens bed Grin if allowed you may at times be made to feel there is just not enough space for you

kitten/cat snuggles are lovely. my cat sleeps at the end of my bed and then snuggles up to me in the morning occasionally in the night too if he so wishes

QueenStromba · 28/11/2013 14:53

Our rescue girl has slept in our bed from day one. She actually spent the first night on top of me as if to stop me going somewhere. She has an annoying tendency to sleep in the most awkward place possible but we'd miss her if she wasn't there.

formerbabe · 28/11/2013 15:00

Animals on the bed makes me feel physically sick! I agree with your DP.

Theodorous · 28/11/2013 15:01

Sorry have to disagree, a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel is great comfort without bed sharing

Chattymummyhere · 28/11/2013 15:08

No cats/dogs in bedrooms here... I can't even touch the cat or dogs after my evening shower, otherwise I feel dirty and have to wash again no way would I want to get into a bed that's had pooh or pee paws all over and the fur... I'm getting a cold sweat just thinking about it..

Cat is confined to the bathroom in evenings and the dogs the kitchen in evenings

allmycats · 28/11/2013 15:10

Agree with some one further up the thread that if yiour kitten has just left her sublings she may be wanting to snuggle up in bed because she is so used to being in contact with her brothers/sisters. They do not sleep alone as kittens, mum is usually there too.

If he insists on not having kitten on bed can you make up a little kitten bed in the room and put a warm hot water bottle wrapped in some fleecy cloth for kitten to snuggle with ?

However, I would let kitten on bed.

Charotte31 · 28/11/2013 15:12

Oh cats/kittens will sleep where they want! I love my my cat in bed with me! DH sounds a bit odd!!

VerySmallSqueak · 28/11/2013 15:18

I think any animal sleeping on the bed should be by agreement with all humans sleeping in the bed.

If one says yes,and the other says no,the no wins it.

Poor kitty Sad

bruffin · 28/11/2013 15:23

I would love our cat to sleep with us but cant bear the licking to death at 4am. We have told her and told that she is welcome to stay as long as she doesnt attack us at 4am. I am some times relent but she doesnt learn and at 4am i regret it.
