to allow a kitten to sleep on the bed

This will probably sound rather ridiculous but DP is really annoyed with me for allowing our kitten to sleep on our bed. . He thinks I am a freak and acting like a 90 year old woman and it is not the done thing. I think she is lovely and cuddly and it is nice to have her snuggled up especially as DP often sleeps on the sofa because he is in a strop ( totally unrelated to the feline btw. AUBU or is he the weirdo.

I love to share my bed- with my dp and ds. not with the cats. I don't let the cats in bedrooms at all, I think it is a bit disgusting. cat hairs on the pillow and covers- yuck!

Blossomflowers · 28/11/2013 15:34

I love all the kitty/cat stories. I think DP is weird and mean for not wanting her to sleep on the bed. He also banned the kids from jumping into bed on a morning when they were tiny.

Dear Kitty is actually really well behaved, just snuggles up to me with head on pillow or does a Mere cat impression in the morning sitting on top of me. And yes stealth boast about new kitty she is totally lush Grin

You do realise that as per internet law you have to provide us with a picture of said kitten?

thebody · 28/11/2013 16:03

oh bloody hell. need a kitten now. my old boy is 15 and the little one is 2. I want a kitten and want one now!!!!!

tb · 28/11/2013 16:46

Our cat used to sleep on my head when she was a kitten - it was lovely and warm.

QuietTiger · 28/11/2013 17:04

DH & I have 7 cats on the bed at night. It gets a bit crowded, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Grin

whois · 28/11/2013 17:26

I can't even touch the cat or dogs after my evening shower, otherwise I feel dirty and have to wash again

Kinda strange!

Envious of you all with your kittens :-( I want cats but DP doesn't and we can't have any in the flat anyway. Boo!

Jakebullet · 28/11/2013 17:32

OP, I have three cats...one is still a kitten and they ALL sleep on my bed. Tell your DH to get a grip Wink

NewName123 · 28/11/2013 17:36

my cat used to sleep on my bed, she was naughty though and would bring live mice into the bedroom in the middle of the night and chase them around. We have a dog now Sad

trashcanjunkie · 28/11/2013 17:46

bah. I can't even persuade my cats to come in the house since the door was changed to a upvc one. They hate the noise it makes, but I've built them kennels in the yard. They are massive hairy bastards, so I don't miss waking up with cat fur on my lips first thing, and trashdog takes care of squashing my legs at night. I also do not miss having dead or alive things brought in to my bed at night. we had a baby rat loose in the house for five frigging days once.

DuckToWater · 28/11/2013 17:53

I've only banned one kitten from the bed - and that was because he used to nuzzle my face and stick his claws in my neck at all hours of the night. Also he wasn't quite litter trained and weed on DD1's bed once...He is allowed in now he is grown up though, better behaved and much calmer, as long as he doesn't bring dead animal presents.

PerfectlyChaotic · 28/11/2013 17:54

I sort of thought it was just us who allowed cats on beds! Actually not so much allowed, but took path of least resistance... At one point we would have 2 cats and 2 DCs all squashed in :)

Be warned though, our cheeky old girl has learnt how to turn the radio alarm on (and off). We're therefore often woken at 5am, and occasionally totally oversleep!

PipkinsPal · 28/11/2013 17:59

My two cats sleep downstairs with the door to upstairs shut. They only sleep on my bed at night is as a treat, and the fact it is bloody cold. One will happily and quietly sit at in one place all night, the other one nn fat boy, snuggles up really close. Keeps moving around and purring in my face and generally being a nuisance. Hence the treat for sleeping on my bed only happens on an odd Friday or Saturday night when I don't have to get up the next morning.

AnneElliott · 28/11/2013 18:28

Both our cars sleep in beds. 1 with DS and the other under the duvet with her heard on the pillow.

I have lovely cute pics of her cuddling DH with her paw but he has threatened to kill me if I show anyone Grin

AnneElliott · 28/11/2013 18:28

Cats obviously

Cheesy123 · 28/11/2013 21:37

My 9 week old kitten decided I was fair game a 4am this morning, I had to hide under the covers! I got fed up and put him in dd bedroom and shut the door.

PresidentServalan · 29/11/2013 08:36

One of mine used to sleep under the duvet - lovely and warm in winter! And it stops the problem of the cat hogging the duvet!

PresidentServalan · 29/11/2013 08:38

Perfectly That's clever of her Grin

WholeNutt · 29/11/2013 09:47

We have 2 cats they have free reign in our house but neither ever sleep on the bed or other furniture by choice, they have their own beds. Could you get a snuggly bed for kitten and keep it bedside you instead?

SUMMERFRUIT · 29/11/2013 09:50

I love having my cats on my bed and as you can see on my profile, they love being on my bed...it's in fact their bed !

KeepingUpWithTheJonses · 29/11/2013 09:56

My cat always used to sleep with us in our bed. It's lovely going to sleep hearing her purring Smile

Lately though she's taken to sleeping with ds1, up on his bunk bed. I've got no problem with her on our or the dc's bed. She doesn't really moult, she's not got fleas and generally cats are really clean. Why shouldn't she?

myownhero · 29/11/2013 10:04

I have a throw on the bottom of the bed and I have taught my cat that she is only allowed on that. Cue hilarious scenes of her edging closer and closer to the border, kneading the 1mm that's still on her side while leaning precariously over.

A cat on a bed is the natural order of things, but I don't want her hairs in my mouth as I'm trying to go to sleep thank you very much.

Deux · 29/11/2013 10:09

Our cat is a big ginger lump and he sleeps wherever he fancies really.

He goes through phases of where he will sleep, sticks with it for a few days then moves on to a different bed/chair.

There's a terrible stand off when he decides that DH's favourite chair is where he will be. A lot of miaowing and giving DH filthy looks. If DH gets him off the chair he'll nip at DH's leg on the way past.

His most annoying trait (cat not DH) is that he will always sleep on anything i've set on the bed, especially freshly laundered clothes. Though he prefers an unmade made. Yesterday i went to make DS's bed and the cat was doing his circling, kneading thing, gave me a 'don't even think about it' look, so i just slunk away.

The cutest is when he snuggles in to all the cuddly toys on DD,s bed so that he's camouflaged.

He only sleeps on a bed with a person in if it's really cold.

GoingGoingGoth · 29/11/2013 10:18

DCat always sleeps on our bed, usually on my legs. He's not allowed on the pillow though ha ha who am. I kidding!

Best hot water bottle ever.

Blossomflowers · 29/11/2013 10:24
