I don't want to live in a cold house.

DH is a bit funny about the heating and hot water.

Every so often he fiddles about with it and decides it's on too often.

So, this morning I got up to a wet bed (thanks, DS2) and after cleaning and changing him I ran myself a bath.

Went to get in and it was cold. Not just a bit cold, freezing. I actually cried.

DH said, oh that's because I had a bath last night. I said wtf? Surely the hot water would have reheated overnight? No, apparently it's now on a timer so we have limited hot water, it reheats at some point in the day and that's it.

So I've had a lukewarm shower. I was visibly upset and DH has gone to work in a bit of a strop because he feels that I'm having a go at him for having a bath last night, which is SO not the point.

During this conversation, while I was standing in the freezing cold bathroom draining my freezing cold bath I said something about hating getting up when it's cold, and DH said, yeah, maybe I should set the heating to come on before we get up.

Yes folks, the heating goes off at 10pm and on at 7am (and then off during the day). We go to bed at around 11 and get up at 6.

WIBU to put my foot firmly down and ban him from fiddling with it? I want the hot water on all the time (I'm fairly sure it isn't that much more expensive, and we are NOT struggling for money) and the heating on for an extra two hours a day.

I just find it the most miserable soul crushing thing in the world to get up in a cold house and have a cold bath.

If you have an electric shower it heats it's own water - you don't need the hot water to be on. They are not hugely expensive. I lived a few years without boiler heated hot water happily because of my electric shower.
However I am not keen on baths anyway - much prefer to shower.

I think its reasonable to put a timer on, but it should be set to come on a while before you get up so the house is warm and you have hot water in the morning.

Yes, we have an electric shower so can have a hot shower any time. We have a silly heating system which can't heat water without putting the heating on as well, we also have an immersion heater.

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams and CrohnicallySick how are you paying so little for so much heat. I pay £90 fcombined for heating on an hour in the morning and 2 in the evenign!

It's a mid terrace.
It's tiny. As in, 2 up 2 down, new build. Never mind the proverbial cat, you couldn't swing a mouse in here.
We have good loft insulation.
We have a combi boiler.
I shop around and change suppliers every couple of years to get the best deals.
We are lazy and like to do things like the washing up as infrequently as possible, meaning we do one bowlful a day rather than washing up after every meal. Every little helps!

We use such little gas in the summer (electric oven means we are only using gas for heating water for showers/washing up) that when I tried to switch suppliers, the price comparison sites kept coming up with an error. When I phoned the company up, they explained that they have a minimum assumed cost and we were below it. When we had separate gas and electricity bills (a few years ago now) I once got a bill for gas for £7. For the quarter. As in 3 months worth. So I do build up a fair bit of credit in the summer to be used against the heating bill for the winter.

We have a ground floor flat, but it is large (high ceilings etc). Wash up once a day, three loads of laundry per week, no tumble dryer. Electric oven, gas hob. Five radiators in the whole flat. No heating at all for at least six months. We dont iron (dont know if this saves much leccy)
