Ilovexmastime · 24/11/2013 17:18

I spend hours on the rescue web sites :)

GiveItYourBestFucker · 24/11/2013 17:25

I have just adopted a rescue dog. He stares at me as though I know what he wants. I have no idea what he wants! But we have done walkies and food and treats and are having a go at chewy toys.

KeatsiePie · 24/11/2013 17:39

Yay dog love! I adore my dog. She's very much the center of our family. I wish we could have another -- actually I wish we could have loads, but we're renting and the future's a little too unsettled for that right now.

GiveIt I love that stare, I know what you mean! Although I've had mine for 14 years now and she quickly moves on to barking at me as though I know what she wants. Sometimes I think they're just thinking. Or wondering what you're going to do next and whether it might involve food Smile

mrsjay · 24/11/2013 17:40

I have had my rescue over a year still dont know what he wants unless it is a pee he slaps me about if he needs a pee ,

GiveItYourBestFucker · 24/11/2013 17:42

Grin thanks! I'm glad I'm not doing something wrong! I'm a bit nervous about the responsibility.

mrsjay · 24/11/2013 17:44

if all else fails give your dog a pat between the ears they like that Smile took mine months to acept us he was a little bugger when he came

Ilovexmastime · 24/11/2013 17:44

I generally find that when I get the "Paddington Bear Stare" it means he wants attention - and lots of it! This could mean playing tug-of-war with him, tickling his belly, or when he was young we even played hide and seek. I normally get away with a scratch behind the ears these days.

mrsjay · 24/11/2013 17:45

on the MArtin clunes programme i watched apparently dogs are people watchers and they are just trying to work us out too

KeatsiePie · 24/11/2013 17:47

Oh no, doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong at all! You sound lovely. If you haven't had him for long he's probably also just sort of still observing what you are like and what the patterns of his new home are, you know? My parents got a dog from a rescue farm about 12 years back and I remember for months she just sat bolt upright on their loveseat and stared at them. Frankly it really unnerved me. But she was just very puzzled by living in a house. She's still very much the type to sit around and watch everyone in a somewhat creepy way

I know what you mean about the responsibility though. My dog is deeply attuned to me and I remember it was extraordinary to realize how much I mattered and what a tremendous commitment I had made to her.

furbaby · 24/11/2013 17:53

Sunday is definitely Love your dog day ...
2 staffys 5 months and 16 years (photos on profile)
Just love them so much !
Litttle pup goes from being an adorable bundle of fun to being a pain in the arse at the flick of a switch .
old girl is delightful in the fact she wanders the house wondering where the hell she is going and where she came from .
would, nt be without them .

Ilovexmastime · 24/11/2013 17:59

Oh Furbaby, they're gorgeous! Love the colour of your little one. I really hope my old boy makes it to 16.

We've just taken on MIL's almost 2 year old Staff too... she's mad and it's great to see him play with her and then put her in her place when he's tired but she's still leaping around! She obviously really looks up to him :)

mrsjay · 24/11/2013 18:02

I saw some sort of furry mountain dog today and decided i wanted one and then thought oh small house dog the size of a pony not such agood idea

furbaby · 24/11/2013 18:07

Thank you ilovexmastime
He does get lots of comments on his colour as don, t see many blue staffys .
good for you taking on mil staffy , they are the only dogs we have ever owned . Lovely dogs but they do love people a little too much sometimes Blush

sweetkitty · 24/11/2013 18:11

I'm 3 months into being a dog owner, I love my 5th baby as I call her. She's a big gangly, daft as a brush, litter tray raiding, farting loon but so affectionate.

toboldlygo · 24/11/2013 18:24

One of my dogs got her first ever agility placing yesterday and I am still completely bursting with pride. She's not a typical agility dog (Siberian husky, rescued), it's taken us more than two years to get to competition standard and a whole year of trying for a win. We had so much fun yesterday and to come home with a rosette was a huge surprise. I am still bouncing and cuddling her and being all Grin

I get so much enjoyment, exercise and friendship from my dogs, I really wouldn't be without them.

HenriettaMaria · 24/11/2013 18:35

furbaby What beautiful dogs. I like Staffies, there are lots around where we live and they are all lovely.

I can honestly say that I have rarely met a dog that I couldn't warm to. The only one that I can think of was my aunt's chihuahua which once bit my brother. Luckily the evil little beast had no teeth Grin but still...
I don't think it was really the dog's fault, tbh. I think my aunt just was a bit rubbish with dogs; she had a peke before the chihuahua which was nasty tempered, too.

mrsjay I always delude myself as to what size of dog my house can accommodate. I would love a Scottish Deerhound and I pretend that it would be fine. In truth, it would take up most of the living room. Wink

MrsBramleyApple · 24/11/2013 18:43

I used to post about my dog lots before I namechanged. He became quite a celebrity on MN! He is a Jackabea and I LOVE him to the world and back! He sleeps in my bed with me and dives under any blanket/duvet that I put over me when I lie on the sofa! He is fab with my god-daughter. I took him to a dogshow in the summer and an old man approached me and told me he had been his second owner and had returned him after three days! I had been told that's deardog had been handed in first because his owner was being made homeless. Oldman was told original owner was a homeless lady which explains why deardog hates wheels and goes absolutely NUTS if he sees a mobility scooter. I hate to think what he experienced living on the streets!!! He lives like a pig in clover now! Grin

RiverSongsCervix · 24/11/2013 18:48

I adore my boy. He's 8 months old and looks like a polar bear crossed with a camel. Huge, hairy, warm and cuddly. He has the nicest nature and adores me back.
There's a spot under his chin that when tickled makes him drool.

PrammyMammy · 24/11/2013 18:49

:D doggy love here too.
We have two cavalier king Charles spaniels. Who have just been bathed this afternoon so are silky smooth and smelling lovely.

spiderlight · 24/11/2013 18:53

I love love love my dogs too Grin We've got a twelve-year-old springer and a collieish lurcherish sort of a scruffbag, both rescues, and they are fab. The springer is currently looking very fetching in a lomng-sleeved t-shirt to stop her licking a sore patch on her leg. She's a bit of a grumpy old lady in some ways and can swear better than any other dog I've ever met if she's asked to do anything that doesn't fit in with her plans, but she still acts like a pup when the mood takes her. We met another springer owner the other day who said her dog was 'Much older than yours - he's four now', and refused to believe that ours was nearly thirteen. The collie-cross we rescued ourselves from dreadful circumstances and he loves us so much Grin

loveolives · 24/11/2013 18:58

YANBu but don't expect everyone else to give a shit.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 24/11/2013 19:00

Having a bad day, loveolives?

Plomino · 24/11/2013 19:03

I adore our dreadful thieving ohmygodhassomethingcrawledupthatarseanddied farting hounds too . They can make themselves as small as a cat , or as long as a four person sofa , with no effort at all . As soon as any of the kids sit down on a sofa , one will feel the need to casually saunter over , and somehow happen to curl up beside said child with head on child's lap . They seem to particularly enjoy being read to as well . Now if only I could teach one of them to sign the reading record !!

loveolives · 24/11/2013 19:05

Actually I've had a really nice weekend thank you. Just answering the question honestly?
