It's all in the title really. A woman just told me she had parked in one because she had a dog in her car. Aibu to think she is inconsiderate?

So Why are the extra wide comfort spaces which are not near the entrance at my Local sainsburys always half empty whilst people are queuing to get into the P&C spaces which are near the entrance if it's about space and not location?
The theory that mothers would be delighted if those spaces were further away and would be clamouring to use them doesn't hold any weight if it's based on my local store.

I've noticed that as well. The comfort spaces are only a few feet further away than p&c but nearly always have spaces

Sirzy · 25/11/2013 11:19

I agree Norude. Its like my local tesco where the P and C spaces run up the length of the car park, you can always park at the ones away from the store but people sit and wait for ones near the store!

We have never qualified for High Rate Mobility and I am happy with what we have. But..... The criteria changed in Feb 2012 and with that change, as I say, my son was not deemed disabled "enough". I appealed. It got me nowhere. At the moment he's fairly well but if we returned to how he was in 2011/2012 I'd HAVE to reapply or get a load of parking tickets. Or, never the leave the bloody house with him.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 25/11/2013 16:59

Eliza, speak to your council, most should give them without high rate mobility, they will just need to speak to your doctor :)

CeliaLytton · 25/11/2013 17:13

I just received a pm, what on earth is going on over here? Grin

In all seriousness, I don't use p&c spaces when I don't have DC with me, as I figure I don't need to and someone else who is shit at parking might.

Most of us are sensible enough to know they are not a necessity, that they are not comparable to disabled spaces and that people survived billions of years without them. But in the same way I would stand for a pregnant woman on the bus (even though I know that pregnancy is not a disability etc etc but I am aware of the discomfort and tiredness that can accompany it), I would not inconvenience anyone else if I could help it and that includes parking in an extra wide space when I don't really need one.

If the car park is full however, you can fight me for it.

CeliaLytton · 25/11/2013 17:16

BTW my local supermarket has p&c spaces but further from the door than at least 20 other spaces, they are just next to a walkway. So people who use them without children with them just do it for the luxury of swinging the door open without having to worry about hitting another car... underrated fun activity

candycoatedwaterdrops · 25/11/2013 17:49

LOL at people PMing each other over this. Is it that serious?!

Also, our spaces are almost at the back of a pretty large car park - and I use them because they are easier than some twunt parking so close that I can't get the car seat out or older child opens door before I can stop it and damages someone else's car and I don't have to worry about absent minded drivers too intent on finding a space near the door not paying attention to the road in front of them and the spaces are right next to a walkway. I'm a happy shopper. Grin

mikeysmum27 · 25/11/2013 20:03

I'm totally agreeing with you nothingbyhalves. I know these spaces aren't a privilege or a right but common courtesy dictates that if you don't have children then don't park in them! And yes, shock and horror I have been known to confront those who park in them and do not have children. There, I've said it..I will call you out on it if I see you parked in one with no children and will continue to do so!

gordyslovesheep · 25/11/2013 20:44

so Mikeysmum27 I park, get my three out, shop, hand over to their dad, return to my car alone and you have the right to abuse me - that's nice to know :)

I used to keep a sling in the boot of my car for going to the supermarket to pop DD in as a baby, saved having to worry about getting the carseat out as I was a bit PFB about putting her in those manky baby seat trollies too short to see over the top of the car seat trollies, made it much easier to get the baby in and out in a normal space if no p&c were free.

Finally confirmation that people are really just twats about these spaces!

Anyone can park in disabled spaces too, if they want to be absolute knobs about those spaces as well as P&C ones. At least in private car parks.

SeaSickSal · 25/11/2013 21:43

I just make a loud comment about how the people who abuse P & C places are always right porkers cos they're too lazy to walk a few yards. Works for me.

gordyslovesheep · 25/11/2013 21:44

Finally confirmation that people are really just twats about these spaces oh yes - yes they certainly are Hmm Grin
