To think running over my sons foot with a car should have hurt more then this?

I feel terrible before you start my 10 year old son was rushing to get into the car. I thought he was in, he wasn't and I ran over his foot! He cried for about 10mins then said he was fine. U was ready to take him to a&e but he said he wanted to go to school. My husband is a first aider, checked him out and said ' he's fine, I've had my foot run over loads of times!' Is it possible that he's actually inherited feet made from steel?!

I had my foot run over when I was 8. By a bloody huge landrover. I was fine! Hurt for a while. Dont feel bad, accidents happen.

If you are worried then get him checked out, but your husband seems to know what hes talking about. :)

It's a bit of a head-breaker, but it's actually really unlikely to have done any damage. The point of tyres is that they spread the weight of a car. Spreading weight, of course, reduces pressure (pressure is force per unit are, and weight exerts force.) If your car was a tracked vehicle it'd have hurt even less as tracks spread the weight even further. I've seen a five-tonne digger track over mud that I went crotch-deep in.

When I first read your title I thought you wanted it to hurt him!

I've had my foot run over by a car and it hurt for a while and then was fine. I think that if any damage has been done it will continue to hurt and you'll know about it.

You'll never live it down though. ''Do you remember when you ran over me with the car Mum?'' Or is it just my children that like to guilt trip?

Don't know how he never broke any bones ,I was hit by a car when I was 16 and I broke my foot and had my shoes ripped open and a chunk out my foot!
I suspect it was somewhere around the wheel my foot got caught.

If he is able to walk fine then I'm sure he is..

Perhaps he was desperate to get to school so he could tell everyone you ran him over He's going to dine out on this for weeks.

I think the most shocking thing is that he wanted to go to school rather than a&e! Mine would do anything, including getting run over, for a day off school.

I had a foot run over by a bemo in Bali. I was wearing saddles and other than a bit of shock I was fine.

I know he's going to milk it for years! I don't think I'll ever be able to tell him off again.
I was amazed but you ladies make it sound quite common

I'm another one who has had my foot ran over and it was fine. It was by a bloody big truck too! I was about 11/12 and did go to a&e as the wing mirror cut my mouth quite badly, they looked at my foot too but that was fine.

I don't really remember it hurting much at all. My mouth did though. That I can remember!

for your shock though, I bet you are in a worse state than him.

I had a trailer park on my foot once. While it was there it hurt like mad and obviously I couldn't move and was pinned to the ground. All of which was a bit scary though I was trying to be very British and not make a fuss because I was face to face with 4yo DD at the time and didn't want to upset her.(She was on said trailer in fancy dress and I had just nipped to the side of the trailer while it stopped to straighten her costume but put my foot in front of the wheel - trailer inched forward a bit and there I was trapped - durr!)

For the few seconds it was on my foot I was imagining having to be taken to casualty, have a cast on my foot etc.

Then it moved off and after a short while I realised I was absolutely fine. I don't think I even had a bruise.

kissing is right - the tyres spread the load and (if not well inflated, are also resting on the ground as well as the foot. Provided the foot is flat to the floor (i.e. no heels on or curled up toes), a car tyre will roll right over and is unlikely to cause massive injury.

From someone who has done something similar to a friend I can assure you that YOU hurt far more than the foot that got run over.

I felt guilty and terrible for days and they had forgotten about it less than half an hour after it had happened.

My DF ran me over with our caravan when I was 7.

We'd arrived at campsite, I got out and ran alongside car as he was heading for our plot. I slowed down, he didn't and whack went the caravan into my back. Down I went, and the tyre of the van proceeded to run my foot over. I remember having a massive bruise on my big toe, which I was quite proud of.

Don't worry OP, I'd completely forgotten about it until I saw this thread!

I'm surprised I didn't get a call from school, I was imagining all sorts! Thought I might even get a call from social services. I've calmed down now but wait for him to come out of school and milk it some more

Tyres and shoes tend to prevent too much damage. Now try shutting your son's finger in the hinge side of the car door .... not that really does hurt!!

Well he's come out of school and said he's been fine. But he has KFC written on both hands so he must have been thinking about what treats he could get all day.

Keep an eye on it, though: one of DD2's friends had this happen to her a few months ago. She ended up getting a stress fracture in the foot and had to wear a boot in order for it to heal.
