To think that Joey Essex

Is an embarrassment to society. How can anyone be that thick?

OP posts:
ClaimedByMe · 19/11/2013 11:45

I can see in 15 years my dd will be like him, makes me smile that people who are not the most academic can still be successful.

MumInTrainers · 19/11/2013 11:54

So what? Live and let live. Being smart isn't everything.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 19/11/2013 11:54

So what if his mum didn't die recently - I cannot imagine how a 10 yo would cope with his mums death, my DS is 11 and I don't know how he would get through it, and to lose your mum to suicide, that must really mess with your mind regardless what age you find out about it! We lost my BIL to suicide in April and we will tell DS when he is an adult, I think it's a bit much for a child to cope with.

He's a nice enough guy, I have no idea why people like to rip others to pieces and ridicule them.

stayathomegardener · 19/11/2013 11:56

My DD 15 is in the bottom 9% of the population with regards to words written or spoken but the top 9% of the population for anything visual.
Some may consider her thick and she sometimes struggles to get her words out.
She will quite likely leave school with few qualifications, however I have no doubt she will be fine, she is a people person able to read others emotions brilliantly. And for the last year she has been running her own photography business....Don't be so quick to judge.

stayathomegardener · 19/11/2013 11:56

She was very taken with Joey last night Wink

IamInvisible · 19/11/2013 11:59

He has talked about his mum on TOWIE when he has been upset.

Cleorapter · 19/11/2013 12:00

I think he's sweet and kind. It's damn cruel to mock someone who has SEN. Yes OP you are VVVVVVVU.

MumInTrainers · 19/11/2013 12:03

I don't think it matters whether he has SEN or not. Why say something cruel about someone just because they're less smart than you are?

stayathomegardener · 19/11/2013 12:09

I think you summed up my daughters frustration OP many of her teachers think she "puts it on" how can she be "so stupid" one minute and brilliant the next.

Ev1lEdna · 19/11/2013 12:15

He is a sweet and personable boy, but seems to lack certain knowledge. I didn't know he had SEN though, where has that been said, has anyone got a link for information? I think the sociable/pleasant side of him will take him quite a long way. He seems to enjoy his life which is more than a lot can say.

I have to say I HATE telling the time with a normal clock and it took me aaaages as a child and you really couldn't say I was uneducated or thick. (Well you could, of course, but I could prove otherwise Grin )

Hmm this is like a weird universe where I am defending Joey Essex, it is bizarre to me.

PoppyInTheFog · 19/11/2013 14:30

I saw him on some game show once and they asked him a question it was so clear he had no idea, it required an answer along the lines of Adam and Eve or Mary and Joseph, he had no idea at all it seemed very genuine to me.

LittleMissGerardPoppyButler · 19/11/2013 14:39

Well I would rather be friends with someone who can't tell the time rather than someone who calls people 'thick' and 'dim'.

My sons writing is awful, but he is still very knowledgeable, and a whizz on computers, we are all good at different things.

monicalewinski · 19/11/2013 14:39

I don't know if he has SEN or not, but if you've watched TOWIE, you'd see how babied he is by his big sister and cousin. It seems like they've been very, very protective over him since his mum's suicide when he was only young and they're not exactly the world's brightest people so you can sort of see why he is like he is.

I think he comes across as really genuine and a lovely person (as does his sister and cousin on TOWIE), and every time I see him on something he makes me smile.

MikeLitoris · 19/11/2013 14:47

I'm not his biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination (think he treated his girlfriend abysmally) but to call him thick and dim is just beyond the pale.

Not everyone has the same level of intelligence. People still manage to lead successful and fulfilling lives.

Fairylea · 19/11/2013 14:55

He treated sam very badly in TOWIE, however much of that is true who knows.

However, he does seem a reasonably decent guy and very well liked. So what if he can't tell the time? It certainly hasn't held him back, he's been more successful in his life so far in terms of wealth and popularity than most of us can ever hope to achieve.

For what it's worth I was accepted into 6 top universities (didn't go due to a whole host of reasons) and yet I have extremely severe dyscalcular. I am fine with words but ask me to add even two items of shopping together and I have absolutely no idea. Can't even begin to guess..... !

SneakyNuts · 19/11/2013 14:59

My younger sister is almost 20 and can't tell the time. I think she still struggles with tying shoelaces.

She is a fantastic artist and aspires to work in scriptwriting and comedy.

Certainly not 'thick' Hmm You sound charming.

LadyBeagleEyes · 19/11/2013 15:34

I've never watched TOWIE, but have seen all the so called stars on various tv programmes.
They are all thick and they can't all have sns.
I hate the fact that they're celebrities for appearing in a reality show.

Sparklingbrook · 19/11/2013 15:42

I think Peter Andre would give him a run for his money.

Geckos48 · 19/11/2013 15:53

Peter Andre on Celebrity Get Me Out of Here was hilarious.

manticlimactic · 19/11/2013 15:59

I understand the not being able to read an analogue clock. My DD can read them but is so used to getting the time from her phone she somehow lost the ability to tell the time on an analogue clock without studying it.

But I sometimes feel he does put it on a bit. Like the time he said he didn't know what a square was. Sometimes it feels he puts it on.

Wuxiapian · 19/11/2013 16:01

What a nasty thread to start, slick.

PoppyInTheFog · 19/11/2013 16:05

I do think Eamon Holmes puts on being not as intelligent as he is, I have no idea why someone would do this? Peter Andre thinks he is far more intelligent than he really is.

cantsleep · 19/11/2013 16:09

Actually, I think he is lovely.

He may not be the cleverest person in the world but he comes across as friendly and nice and willing to learn. Cheers me up watching him on tv (and he reminds me a little of my ds1!)

Opalite · 19/11/2013 16:19

Intelligence comes in many different forms and also the value of a person shouldn't be based off how intelligent someone thinks they are

mrsjay · 19/11/2013 16:24

and tbh his fame wont last that long I think reality stars have 5 years max if they are lucky the boy has a shop he has men's fragrance and womens perfume etc etc not bad for somebody who cant tell clock time he is famous for being on a reality telly programme no he isn't that sharpest tool in the box but his life is a bubble he doesn't need to be clever or have a great general knowledge ,
