to have no idea what Minecraft is?

Anyone care to explain it to me? It appears on threads loads and seems loved by young and old.

Im intrigued.

I'm so proud of dd.

She's done a build on a server for a SciFi themed comp.

She chose Dr Who and has recreated the Tardis, which opens and is all replicated inside as well.

Then round The Tardis she's done loads of different planets all of which are planets from different Dr Who episodes and have very detailed recreations of various things. For instance she's done the Asylum of The Daleks, has the prison and Daleks. Then she's done another planet with a roller coaster which appparantly relates to another Dr Who episode. She's done a planet with the Wild West cowboy town from a Dr Who episode.

It's taken her ages!

RE sims and building, I do it either via house plans or buildings I like. I'm building a town from scratch and have Colchester Town Hall, houses based on the Victorian homes in Hove, what used to be Colchester Arts Centre and I'm trying to build Brighton Pavilion at the moment I have a few others I've been building too but those are the big projects!

I'm signing up to minecraft this weekend I would totally join an MN server if there is one if I can work out how too

I (rather sadly) love this thread it makes me feel less alone in the Minecraft obsession that surrounds me. Have any of you seen the new Minecraft papercraft kits that are coming/have just come out?

I too build houses in The Sims and recreate them, I can spend hours just messing about on the The Sims.

My son is obsessed with Minecraft. He spends hours on YouTube watching other people play & comment on their performance. It drives him crazy when I say time to switch off, it's very addictive. I personally don't get it? bur I suppose there are worse ways to spend your time!

Which server is this VivaLaBeaver? My son would be interested in exploring it as he's a Dr Who fan but there are so many different minecraft servers he'd have to know exactly where to look

Rebecca, its chaos server I think. But you have to be invited by server owner type person. Wll check with dd tomorrow but I'm sure she had to be invited.

We are a Stampy family too. DD (age 5) is obsessed with him and Ballistic Squid.

23 balloons my son does that. I worry about what he is listening to but it all seems very innocent and polite (and boring) so far. Have you come across any sweary or horrible people putting these films on YouTube?

My six year old DS is Minecraft mad. Drives me mad too when I have to change various mods around. He will also watch Venturian Tale for hours on YouTube.

He loves all the Doctor Who mods.

my son is legitland, his isn't invite only, you apply to be whitelisted and as they have a no griefing policy (ie don't muck the game up) you can't get in if you've destroyed other peoples stuff in other servers.

My son watches stampy all the time too, he does swear occasionally I've noticed.

My kids are obsessed with it and we have to pry the computers away from them...

DS likes Zack Scott. He doesn't swear in his own videos but most of his minecraft ones are co-ops and the other people sometimes swear. Also you have to monitor what they are watching because some of his videos border on more adult games - there is a Minecraft Walking Dead for example.

Twinkle, he does swear on the earlier vids on youtube. The later ones def not as he realised he had a younger following

Minecraft is the ultimate bargaining tool. For 30 minutes of minecraft my 5 year old ds will give me an hour of attention with his reading, writing and maths (I think he's dyslexic and wow, he needs the help!).

Minecraft is great but YANBU to not know about it unless you have school age kids, then it might be a bit odd.

My 8yo loves it but tbh its a fun way to pass the time and I am 42! Unlikely I would have discovered it though if I hadn't got him!

I had to make DS a Stampy cake for his birthday this year. He prob spends more time watching stampy than playing himself which is something I don't get!

Purplepixiedust - so does my 7 year old daughter . My 7 and 7 year old love it. They both play it on hudls, we just got a Google play voucher/card and downloaded it. They can enter each other's world with the hudl and an iPad.
