Anyone care to explain it to me? It appears on threads loads and seems loved by young and old.

Im intrigued.

There are loads of ideas for Minecraft parties cakes etc on Pinterest, also lots of ideas on how to customise bags and clothes with Minecraft themes.

Ev1lEdna · 19/11/2013 17:48

Viva I have but it is mighty pricey for the size of it!

TiggyD · 19/11/2013 19:06

Minecraft is diamonds!

Pancakeflipper · 19/11/2013 19:09

My 8 yr old built the most amazing roller coaster on Minecraft. I was impressed.

TiggyD · 19/11/2013 19:22

Some clever person has effectively built a computer on Minecraft, using the blocks and redstone (wire) and redstone torches (diodes).

Of course somebody has built a 1:1 model of the starship Enterprise. (NCC 1701C).

I'm currently building a city. Just modelling some medieval houses at the mo. Have to study real houses to get them just right. Then I'll use MCEdit, a third party programme to reproduce them again and again.

I may have no life, but I'm happy. And single.

BerstieSpotts · 19/11/2013 19:23

Wow Tiggy - the computer sounds awesome!

ConfusedPixie · 19/11/2013 19:28

Tiggy: I build houses from house plans on the sims, I spend hours doing it, it's very calming Grin

BerstieSpotts · 19/11/2013 19:30

I do that too! I have a whole folder of interesting houses I see on Rightmove Blush

I like to build whole neighbourhoods from scratch. I recently got SimCity 4 so I can even create the neighbourhood terrain any way I like too! Grin

Am upset though that my hard drive with all of my proper sims stuff on it is back in England and I have to wait until Christmas to get it back :(

Rufus44 · 19/11/2013 19:38

Tiggyd my boys have done something really cool on minecraft that I would love to show off, would you suggest YouTube or is there a minecraft site or something?

Rufus44 · 19/11/2013 19:39

Sorry OP, not what you asked but I'm really proud of them (that's a bit sad really!!!)

TiggyD · 19/11/2013 19:41

Youtube would be good, but the Minecraft website has a massive forum that has a section to show your creation.

You can also upload the schematics of houses via a programme like MCEdit to a schematics website so other people can download them.

octopusinastringbag · 19/11/2013 19:44

I have no idea either, though DS tells me it is a game that he doesn't like because it involves killing people. I have no idea if it does or not; we don't have it.

octopusinastringbag · 19/11/2013 19:47

The spiders do creep me the fuck out. They like to come at you from above when you're on a hill.

That has just guaranteed that I will never, ever, ever buy or use Minecraft. Thanks for the warning.

BerstieSpotts · 19/11/2013 19:49

You can turn the monsters (including spiders) off - you just set it to "creative" or "peaceful" - creative gives you a neverending supply of every block and no monsters, peaceful is a difficulty setting on survival - you have to eat and you start with nothing, but there are no monsters.

You don't kill people but the monsters are things like zombies so they are person-shaped and you have to kill them.

Idreamofsunshine · 19/11/2013 19:51

Minecraft isn't about killing people octopus

BerstieSpotts · 19/11/2013 19:51

They are so pixelated they're not scary zombies though. I let my 5 year old play it (although he's scared of the monsters so he makes us turn them off!) and I don't like him playing "killing games".

Rufus44 · 19/11/2013 19:51

Thank you tiggy, I will tell them to put it on!!

OddFodd · 19/11/2013 19:57

We only play creative or peaceful mode in our house - I don't want DS playing violent games.

I've watched house design videos Blush

BoosterBondageSapphire · 19/11/2013 20:40

I really want to play with Tiggy on Minecraft!

GoldiChops · 19/11/2013 20:42

This sounds amazing- I've heard of it, but don't know much. I don't have a console though, can you get it on a PC? I see an iPad app thingy for £4.99, does anyone have it? Is it worth it? Just for me, I only have an iPad mini though so would it be too small.

BerstieSpotts · 19/11/2013 20:54

Yes it's best on the PC anyway.

octopusinastringbag · 19/11/2013 20:55

Oh that's OK then, we could turn the monsters off and I could pretend that they didn't exist because I am a big coward I wouldn't want to scare the children.

hottiebottie · 20/11/2013 01:56

All of the above, with extremely soporific music! I try to follow what's going on when the kids are playing it but usually end up dozing off on the sofa. Grin

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 20/11/2013 02:13

My 8 year old is obsessed with minecraft not just playing it but watching videos of people playing it too, he's got the ipad app and is getting the xbox game for Xmas.

TiggyD · 20/11/2013 18:53

Set up a Mumsnet server BBS! Or maybe there should be an official Mumsnet one???

I don't play with the nasty mobs (Monsters) on. Too scary.

ssssssssssssssss
