Im intrigued.

Yes, you can d/l the full version onto your desktop PC. Once you've got a username on there, you can d/l it to multiple PCs. The apps are separate.

The full version allows you to log onto different servers to play with others or you can play on your own - either using a randomly generated world or your own mods.

You can also d/l a map of the UK from the Ordnance Survey which is extremely cool :o

Minecraft

gottasmile · 19/11/2013 09:48

Thank you OddFodd!!!! I'll take a look. Ds will be so pleased!!

MyLeftElbow · 19/11/2013 09:48

Ugh Bertie - the music is horrid! It creeps me out and I always end up muting it! DS1 loves it though!

He can play it on his iPad and I can join him on the iPhone in the pocket version. But it is quite limited in its capabilities. The PC version is much, much better.

Anyone fancy hosting a MN server? Grin

MyLeftElbow · 19/11/2013 09:49

Gah! Berstie... Not Bertie. Silly autocorrect.

CrystalQueen · 19/11/2013 09:53

The android and iPad versions can "talk" to each other - my DH and DD have their own world (literally - I don't get it!)

mrsjay · 19/11/2013 09:54

dd2 said a group of her friends play and there was a big fall out becuase of it I thought seriously fall out over a game Hmm, she doesn't play it so I have no idea what it is all about

OrlandoWoolf · 19/11/2013 11:15

DS wants a Minecraft party next year. Not entirely sure what one is Grin

He has spent ages building his house.

PeppermintScreams · 19/11/2013 11:31

DS aged 5 has been going on about this, and wants me to download it to our iPad as some of his friends have it. I'm going to have to download it on to my phone to take a look aren't I? Grin

Oblomov · 19/11/2013 11:48

I think it is a good game. As games go.
Ds1(9) ASD is obsessed.

deXavia · 19/11/2013 11:57

can someone explain how you move about - specifically on the ipad version? I get the arrows to move ahead, back, left, right ect but they don't seem to move you very far (or at least not me) and if you get stuck in a hole or up a mountain side how do you get out of that - can you jump? Blush

DS aged 7 has recently become obsessed but is looking for me to show him how to use it.... and I'm crap

OrlandoWoolf · 19/11/2013 12:01

I think you build steps if you are in a hole. I think you can jump but this is only based on me watching him.

There are apparently some good YouTube videos (but they might need screening)

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 19/11/2013 12:07

Oh my! I live The Sims and I live Lego so how has this passed me by?! Anyone got the Xbox 360 version?

OP posts:
Ev1lEdna · 19/11/2013 12:10

My kids love this, they play together on multiplayer Garythetankengine said it was like Lego in a virtual world and that is exactly right. My kids have built rollercoasters and play parks and all sorts. It's very creative.

There is a serious Minecraft obsession in my house, the children's obsession I hasten to add, not mine. Grin

I have to say quite a few of my students play it too (older teens/ young adults).

Ev1lEdna · 19/11/2013 12:11

It doesn't beat the Sims for me Mortified but you may well love this game Wink

MumInTrainers · 19/11/2013 12:15

It's fabulous for children (and adults!).

sherbetpips · 19/11/2013 12:16

intrigued by the DD's liking it. Always saw it as a DS sort of game. Mine loves it, gets all his friends on it to. They can play in groups on tablets if they are all on the same wifi network. Otherwise they have to play on-line on a pc and log on to a server. (god why do I even know this).....

Ev1lEdna · 19/11/2013 12:18

Quite a few of the girls like it too (both in my young children's class and among older students.) Girls also like to think tactically and build.

wonderingsoul · 19/11/2013 12:18

both of mine LOVE minecraft 8 and 4 .. and i have to admit it is pretty cool and like to play to. its very child friendly imo, and it teaches about maths and science in a real basic way with out even really knowing about it.

ds1 just had a creeper birthday cake last week and ds2 wants a minecraft bday party end of december. i have many cool ideas to do this aand im sadly excited about it. they aklso have the mc torchs for their chiristmas present :D

Ev1lEdna · 19/11/2013 12:21

sorry missed the 'g' from your name

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 19/11/2013 12:29

Hijack away, its all fascinating.

Think I know what Im.asking Santa for!

MumInTrainers · 19/11/2013 12:30

I think it's great at bridging genders, age groups and various different interests - for some it's an action game, for some it's strategy, for others it's creative etc.

NettleTea · 19/11/2013 12:32

My son had a creeper birthday cake made by a friend of ours - she just made squares of different green and black icing and made a mosaic creeper face.
The redstone is great - teaches them about electronics as it basically acts as an electrical circuit.
DS 7 and DD 13 love it but DD gets mad because DS sneaks onto her creative world and spawns pig zombies all over it (dont ask)
I know Rasperry Pi do a minecraft version, or the other way round, and some schools are using it for maths and coding, as you can do slash commands as well as just play.
They both watch uTube videos made by famous players (DSs fav is StampLongnose) and get ideas about things to build and mods (which seem to be free add ons you can download, and which other people have developed) and they have downloaded 'skins' which is a way of creating a personalised outfit which fits over your player, so that you dont look like a standard 'Steve'
DS wanted a large Foam Creeper for Christmas, I have had to import one from the US as they dont sell them here.
Would love a link for the OS map download, DS would love that, although he has accurately recreated our house and his granny's farm.
