My ndn goes through phases of using my phone a lot.
The last few days it's been about 10x a day. They usually take it home with them as " it's a private call." I let them, as I don't want my DC overhearing their dramas/drug deals etc.
She took it at about 5pm yesterday, then asked for it again an hour later. I reminded her that she already had it. It hasn't come back yet.
They're definitely still alive, as they were banging about and shouting until 3am, and I've heard them on and off all evening.
The neighbor was drunk/stoned, as usual, and blood splattered (not so usual) yesterday.
My friend thinks I should get it back and only let them use it in genuine emergencies. I dont really know how to stop them asking, now that they know it works at their house. Also, their lives are a never ending succession of emergencies. Yesterday was, apparently, a sword attack.
I'm wondering if they've just forgotten, or whether they're still using it.
Am I being petty wanting my phone back?

You think your neighbour was involved in a sword attack and you're wondering how to stop her asking to borrow your phone?

She said her partner's brother had attacked him with a sword, but that he wasn't hurt badly enough to need medical attention.

Is this for real? They probably are could be using that phone, traceable to you I assume, to do set up all sorts of dodgy stuff. Are you mad?

just don't give them the phone at all. they could buy their own.
and call the police about the drug dealing and/or domestic violence.

The police, drug services, social services are well aware of them.
That's my dilemma - they could be running up a massive bill phoning drug dealers on mobiles, or they could have been genuinely scared to be without a phone last night.

I lend them it because they ask. How do you say "sorry you've just been involved in a sword attack, but I'm fed up with you knocking my door for stuff"?

If it's difficult to just say no, how about 'it's broken/not working' followed by a suggestion that they get a cheap payg phone themselves?

Just because someone asks to borrow something, doesn't mean you have to day yes.

is this a mobile or landline - if the latter can you unplug at the wall. Your bill could run into hundreds.

Tell them you keep getting weird interference on your phone and you think the police are tapping it.

Buy a plug in the wall phone . No way would I allow someone to go off with my phone , the bills could be huge !

If it were a serious attack, he'd have bled to death by now, but I heard him bollocking her son a little while ago.

How can you trust people like that with your phone?? They might be ringing mobiles/premium numbers.... You won't know til you get the bill

I let them take it a) because I don't want my children to hear the shouting/crying etc and b) because they smell, so I don't want them in my house!

How does your landline still work,in their house?! And surely the battery would have gone flat by now. Think you need to check your phone bill, god knows who they've been ringing. That's the cheekiest thing I've heard for a while
