AIBU to want to remove my six year-old's tonsil stone?

It's massive. I can't stop asking her to show me it because I just want to poke it with a cotton bud. But I feel I would need a valid medical reason to do so, and 'because it's driving me mad and I love picking scabs etc' is not valid enough.

You need to do it and take photos or film it

CocacolaMum · 12/11/2013 22:02

I have never heard of a tonsil stone.

FutTheShuckUp · 12/11/2013 22:02

Don't please, the tonsils are a very vascular area and it could easily cause a bleed

LeBeauReve · 12/11/2013 22:05

I have done this to myself before on numerous occasions. My tonsils are the bane of my life. Did bleed a bit but nothing serious. Very satisfying but makes you gag a lot!

AndHarry · 12/11/2013 22:05

Surely it will just pop out with a bit of a prod on its own if you can see it?

CocacolaMum · 12/11/2013 22:05

I just googled. Shock

You can easily get them off/out with a cotton bud.

FutTheShuckUp · 12/11/2013 22:08

You don't need to. They just dislodge of their own accord

GetOrfGetStuffed · 12/11/2013 22:08

Jesus Christ I have just googled.

What in the name of hell are those bastard things?

Stones? In tonsils?

Why? How do you get rid of them? Can you feel them? URGH!

BadSeedsAddict · 12/11/2013 22:08

Haha, yes I would have filmed it and then watched it again! I'm not actually going to do it, they're not even my tonsils; but my god is it tempting. And compulsively beguiling. When she had a verruca I secretly enjoyed the whole Bazuka thing (apart from the bit where it hurt her and she cried!).

getorfgetstuffed that's basically what I just said out loud!!!

CommanderShepard · 12/11/2013 22:09

Oh poor thing - my sister has cryptic tonsils. She uses warm saline solution and a cotton bud.

BadSeedsAddict · 12/11/2013 22:10

There was a whole thread about videos of them being removed, at some point. I knew I would get some 'do it, DO IT!!' comments Grin

BadSeedsAddict · 12/11/2013 22:12

Commander, are some tonsils more cryptic than others, then? DD has quite a lot of infections generally, they are keeping an eye on it.

I taught my ds how to remove his by gauging and poking with his tongueGrin I had tons of them in my teens, never get them now.

valiumredhead · 12/11/2013 22:15

Gargling

I would personally, but I'm obsessed with things like that. I can't sleep if DP has a blackhead on his back that I simply must get at

I'm a sicko who loves watching massive spot/cyst popping videos though

BerstieSpotts · 12/11/2013 22:18

Don't! You'll make her sick.

I get them, horrible things. I can't dislodge them either because it makes me gag so I just have to suffer them until they work their way out and then try not to be sick.

I find antibacterial mouthwash helps keep them at bay.

valiumredhead · 12/11/2013 22:26

I used to get mine out with a cotton bud, felt so much better when it was out!

acsec · 12/11/2013 22:27

Get it out! I can never get my own out and they are horrible. She'll feel much better with it gone!

CustardOmlet · 12/11/2013 22:29

I gag too much to get mine out myself, I just have to wait for them to drop out then spit (and occasionally sniff!)
