I live in a first floor flat on a main road. Traffic often builds up in the evening. The amount of times I have sat at my window and looked out just chilling out after hard days work at people sitting in their cars picking their noses and eating IT is quite unbelievable. I am not joking here.........and its always men. Absolute rotters........has anyone else seen this

I saw a glamorous middle aged woman doing it in a car park the other day. She looked a bit embarrassed when she realised I'd seen her.

Mylovelyboy · 12/11/2013 18:33

They are all at it..........and in public as well Shock. Its the eating it that gets me.

ew ew ew ew. it is the most disgusting thing EVER.

Also men 'fondling' in public too.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 12/11/2013 22:20

YABU! Far better that then pick it and wipe it somewhere! And, it's good for your immune system!

EthethethethChrisWaddle · 12/11/2013 22:56

Ewww no! Pick it, lick it, roll it, flick it. That's the way to do it.

VivaLeBeaver · 12/11/2013 23:02

A friend was moaning at me about a work colleague she gave a lift to who picked his nose and wiped it on the edge of her car passenger seat!

OralB · 12/11/2013 23:26

Absolutely disgusting!!

Seen quite a few smartly dressed men doing it on the train, sooo gross, clearly not bought up properly.

aGnotherGnu · 12/11/2013 23:27

The thread above this in active convos is "what are you snacking on right now" :o

BlingBang · 13/11/2013 01:05

I think that those who protest too much...

ZingWantsGin · 13/11/2013 01:26

recently I heard/ saw somewhere that children should be encouraged to eat their boogies - the bacteria and tiny particles of dirt, pollen etc should be ingested so the body can build up it's natural defense mechanism by strengthening the immune system

no idea if that's true or not.
I find that an interesting view.

I'm pretty sure we learnt at school that (as you should breathe in through your nose) the little hairs' role in the nostrils are to filter the air for the lungs.
that doesn't mean that what's caught should not enter the body, just not the lungs.

I'm not saying it should, but I wonder why most kids and a lot of adults pick & eat their noses.
it seems it comes naturally to kids. nobody is ever taught to do it, so maybe it's only discouraged because of how it looks, not what purpose it might serve.

ZingWantsGin · 13/11/2013 01:27

and OP women do it to.

get over it

ZingWantsGin · 13/11/2013 01:27

*too

IrisWildthyme · 13/11/2013 01:55

As zing said: OP, get over it. You only think it's disgusting because you have been culturally conditioned to think so, you have had the taboo instilled in you, other people are more laid back.

We all digest quite a lot of the mucous which lines our airways anyway - when we are healthy and our noses aren't blocked, there is a constant but very light flow of mucous from our nose and our trachea directly into the oesophagus - so even if you never pick your nose and eat it you are digesting almost as much of the stuff yourself as those who do.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/11/2013 04:56

Anyone who picked and flicked or wiped it in my car would get out fast! And I wouldn't stop to let them out!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 13/11/2013 05:51

Each to their own IMO. I'd be more concerned if they offered me a sample of their nose contents.

SnakePlisskensMum · 13/11/2013 05:56

I caught my ex H doing this...it was the beginning of the end for me GrinGrinGrin

Mondaybaby · 13/11/2013 06:26

It happens everyday on the tube. It is disgusting. It is mostly men but occasionally women too. It shows a total lack of social disinhibition. It may be ok to eat bogies in private but to do pick and flick or pick and eat is wrong on a crowded tube train!

hellokittymania · 13/11/2013 06:31

Hahahaha in Vietnam, someone offered to pick my nose. Not joking! Grin

I couldn't understand what the motorbike driver was saying (have SN including a visual impairment) so couldn't understand.....until he tried to stick his finger in my nose....

hellokittymania · 13/11/2013 06:35

aGnother Grin

A passion fruit juice thankfully!

ProudAS · 13/11/2013 06:42

My theory is that its good for the immune system as Saggy said and so evolution meant that it became more common place than the OP might like to think. Can't see it doing the eater any harm but best done discreetly.

I worked with a man who did this in front of everyone. Nobody could quite believe what they were seeing the first time. He seemed totally unconcerned by the reactions of those around him

CuChullain · 13/11/2013 08:39

I was waiting at traffic lights the other week and I caught in my rear view mirror a women having a damn good rummage. It was quite an operation and required immense concentration as she twisted and probed her digit into the inner cavity of her nostril, and then, after what seemed like an eternity she pulled her finger out to reveal a bogey that was big enough for me to make out in the car in front. She then proceeded to inspect this specimen as if she were a judge at some village vegetable growing competition, observing it from all angles before reclining back in her seat with a look of contentment of a job well done. Then to my horror she popped it in her mouth, I was still staring at this episode somewhat mesmerised, my trance only broken when she beeped her horn to indicate that the lights had changed to green.

whereisthewitch · 13/11/2013 08:55

I think that a long time ago this would have been a normal thing but we have been preconditioned to think it's disgusting. My DD never saw anyone doing it and yet started doing it almost naturally.

I too read that article about it being good for immunity, snot doesn't taste foul in the way earwax does (have never seen anyone picking their ear and eating it).

You probably swallow snot down the back of your throat constantly. Im not advocating it because I do it BTW because my mum taught me it was disgusting but thh I won't make a big issue if DD does it since it's good for her Grin

pointyfangs · 13/11/2013 10:32

I hate seeing people do it in public and don't do it myself, but my Dad always says 'it's only carbohydrates' (no idea of the nutritional composition of mucus, he may be right) and I can see the immune argument in favour.
