It is dark by 5 so WHY have my neighbours only just started to let of fireworks now. They KNOW out of 5 adjoining, small, gardens at least 3 houses have very small children and 1 elderly couple. Even my guinea pigs are freaking out.

Tossers

I agree it's a bit late to be setting fireworks off. I think that's the problem when bonfire night is midweek. You get fireworks on both weekends.

I hope they don't go on for much longer where you are.

AwkwardSquad · 09/11/2013 21:26

Probably because they have finished their dinner and imbibed just enough booze to make it seem like a good idea? Hopefully they've drunk enough to blow one of their own hands off.

Sorry if I sound a tad grumpy. We've had fireworks around here for about five weeks, it's getting really tedious.

Oh and off they go again! Super.

PeppiNephrine · 09/11/2013 21:26

9.15pm...its hardly the middle of the night. And its the weekend of bonfire night, so yabu to be surprised.

Bunbaker · 09/11/2013 21:27

"And its the weekend of bonfire night"

Round here it was last weekend.

CiderBomb · 09/11/2013 21:27

Last night a house near me started letting some off and it sounded like WW3 was breaking out, they were like bombs. Loud and deafening. It went on till gone 10pm as well.

NoComet · 09/11/2013 21:29

Lucky sods. I haven't had any free firework shows this year at all.

Watching other people's fireworks is one of life's pleasures.

InkleWinkle · 09/11/2013 21:35

If they don't celebrate Christmas on the 29th December they shouldn't be 'Guy Fawkes night' on 9th December.

So......YANBU.

AwkwardSquad · 09/11/2013 21:38

Yes, if you can actually see them, Star, rather than just getting the sound effects Sad.

I was nearly hit by the cases walking home the other night. One hit a parked car beside me and showered the car with sparks.

Iamsparklyknickers · 09/11/2013 21:42

They are indeed tossers.

In principle I can't argue with the fact that people should be able to have their own little displays - but the fact that so many people use them with absolutely no consideration for others means I would love to see the bastard things banned for private use.

It's dark by 6pm so why wait till after 9pm (exemption for New Years) to let them off when you live in the middle of a built up area? The only explanation I can find is that you're a massive arse who doesn't give a shit about anyone else.

Not to mention the correlation between late night fireworks and prevalence of those massive vibrating bang things just adds to my argument that these gits are indeed arses and probably talk in the cinema too.

WorraLiberty · 09/11/2013 21:42

Why would they want to let them off at 5pm just because it's dark?

Perhaps they have guests and have decided to let them off after dinner.

YeahBuddy · 09/11/2013 21:46

Next door but one have had them going off for about two hours now. They let a load off then disappear inside for 30 minutes then come out and set a load more off. I'm not too bothered cos the dts are staying at my mum's house tonight but I can hear the dog next door and he sounds really upset, poor thing :(

Iamsparklyknickers · 09/11/2013 21:53

My point was that by 6pm it's dark - why would you not take into consideration that letting off explosives later at night may be disruptive for your neighbours with small children, animals, older or sick people who get disturbed or upset by the noises?

Granted it's the same noise, but earlier on in the evening you have less chance of catching people off guard or asleep - you wouldn't start drilling at 9pm so why start disturbing people in a massively wider radius?.

MrsMot · 09/11/2013 21:55

I know lots of people round me who have waited until the weekend as they didn't want to disturb kids on a school night.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 09/11/2013 21:59

Sorry but I think YABU.

Guy Fawkes night fell on a Tuesday this year, so the 2 weekends either side and the actual night are fair game for setting off fireworks IMO

Fireworks usually involve a having a party and friends around to enjoy them with you and the letting off of said fireworks usually happens after people have eaten so 9.15 seems pretty reasonable to me.

WholeNutt · 09/11/2013 21:59

I'm watching a crappy display at the moment courtesy of the thoughtless -wankers folk over yonder..this is night 7 and my normally very chilled creatures are stressed to buggery. Enough already..ban the fucking fireworks. Angry

ABitterPIL · 09/11/2013 22:00

The gardens they back on to are less than 20 ft. Its pretty tight knit to be having fireworks at all here IMHO. But if they have to WHY leave it so late?

Personally think the bloody things should be for pubic displays anyway. That could be the grumpiness caused by a bad back, the prospect of 4 hrs driving tom, 3 hrs in the rain all afterno frigging sleep tonight because DC is in my bed because fireworksare going off next to their window.....

OP posts:
WholeNutt · 09/11/2013 22:01

To add when I say watching..our window is backs onto their 'display' it's also heaving down..what's wrong with them!

Breadandcakes · 09/11/2013 22:05

I think they should be banned except at organised displays. Dangerous and totally selfish

AwkwardSquad · 09/11/2013 22:08

Maybe the extent to which a person thinks it's unreasonable depends on whether it's a couple of weekends - in which case it's not so U - or every.fucking.night.for.weeks. In which case I'm sorry, but tolerance does tend to ebb somewhat.

pointyfangs · 09/11/2013 22:09

YANBU, everyone round here has theirs done by 8pm at the very very latest. We did ours at dead on 6pm because we had small children visiting and we know the neighbours have little ones. Being considerate isn't rocket science. We also went for colour rather than noise, IYKSWIM.

Hermyninny · 09/11/2013 22:12

I've got an inconsolable 2 yo because someone decided to do a MASSIVE display at the play park about 100m as the crow flies from our house (and about 300 other houses) at 9:30pm. Very impressive but it sounded like a fecking mortar attack. Soo unhappy...

FryOneFatManic · 09/11/2013 22:35

We've already had fireworks around here for 2 weeks already, and we've had fireworks every night since last Friday.

And as we have a largish Asian population in our town, it's not just Guy Fawkes fireworks, it's Diwali too. Given the tossers I know in town, there'll still be more fireworks on odd nights up to NYE.

WorraLiberty · 09/11/2013 22:38

The gardens they back on to are less than 20 ft. Its pretty tight knit to be having fireworks at all here IMHO. But if they have to WHY leave it so late?

9pm is only late if you have young children.

If you have teenagers or no children then it's not late at all.

Perhaps they've spent the week avoiding school nights and now feel they've done their bit?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 09/11/2013 22:57

Well yes NYE and Divali are also recognised celebrations and good reasons for a party, as is Chinese New Year and probably others that I've not thought of.

There will never be one night and one time that suits everybody. Kids are of different ages, people work shifts and commitments, weather forecasts vary.

It does not happen every night of the year, not even every week. A little tolerance and understanding that not everyone is in the same position as us is called for here i think.

wamabama · 09/11/2013 22:58

I don't understand why, after having them the weekend before Guy Fawkes and having it sound like we were in the middle of a war on Guy Fawkes night, they still insist on setting them off the weekend after as well. We've had them here every night of November so far and I'm sick of hearing them.

They're selfish, antisocial, not even fun, dangerous and scare young children, animals, some elderly and those of a nervous disposition. PUBLIC DISPLAYS ONLY ON NEW YEARS AND GUY FAWKES. There, I got that out there.
