To think DH shouldn't unlock the bathroom door from the outside and come in when I am on the toilet?

I was on the toilet - had been for about 2 minutes. I wasn't taking an age or anything!

DH had just taken out the food recycling and declared he needed to wash his hands (from the outside) I said I wasn't feeling awfully well but would be out in a second (upset stomach) so could he please use the upstairs bathroom or the kitchen sink. He said no he needed to wash his hands and after a minute arguing back and forth unlocked the door from the outside, barged his way in and washed his hands. Then left without saying a word.

I'm actually fucking speechless. AIBU?

Is he usually this impolite?

KippyVonKipperson · 09/11/2013 20:02

Yanbu. Think you need to get your own back and see how he likes it!

Cluffyflump · 09/11/2013 20:03

What an odd thing to do Shock
YANBU at all! I would be furious!

AnyoneforTurps · 09/11/2013 20:03

Well he sounds like an arse but more importantly, WTF is the point of a lock that can be undone from the outside?

Get a bolt, Woman. And an electric cattle prod for your DH Wink

OhBabyLilyMunster · 09/11/2013 20:03

Id be devastated by the invasion of my privacy

Mouthfulofquiz · 09/11/2013 20:04

That would have made me so so so angry!!!!!!

sheldor · 09/11/2013 20:04

No yanbu if theres other places for him to wash his hands, how odd.I think theres more to this though. Is he controlling, disrespectfull etc?

noblegiraffe · 09/11/2013 20:04

YANBU. I would be furious if my DH did this, especially given the variety of other sinks on offer. It sounds like he just had to impose his will on you. Is he usually like this?

Bloob · 09/11/2013 20:06

OhBabyLilyMunster that's actually how I feel! I don't know if its a huge overreaction though. I feel as if he just invaded my space with no consideration that I didn't want him in there.

He would go absolutely mental if I did it to him. He won't even move if dd desperately needs a wee and she has to go upstairs Confused

Is your kitchen really that far of a walk?

Definitely put a bolt on the door.

IneedAsockamnesty · 09/11/2013 20:06

I would be very unhappy about this yanbu

BerstieSpotts · 09/11/2013 20:08

WTF? In most bathroom locks I've seen which can be opened from the outside you need to use a coin or a screwdriver or something else flat and solid to open it. So he's actually bothered to go and get something to unlock it with. Why on earth not just use another sink? Confused

Yes, it would really piss me off, largely because it makes no fucking sense and that leads me to strongly suspect that he did it specifically to make a point to you.

TooOldForGlitter · 09/11/2013 20:08

Invasion of privacy and exceptionally rude IMO. Has he form for this kind of behaviour?

BerstieSpotts · 09/11/2013 20:08

Point being either just to be an arse/annoying or to "put you in your place".

WidowWadman · 09/11/2013 20:10

LTB

Bloob · 09/11/2013 20:10

Yes he went and got car keys to unlock it.

The kitchen sink is approximately 10 steps away.

I don't know if he has form for it. Not really. He can be quite domineering if he feels he's right sometimes. Not to a worrying degree though. Just irritating.

froubylou · 09/11/2013 20:10

If he did that again I'd shit in his shoes.

Bastard.

FrequentFlyerRandomDent · 09/11/2013 20:12

Yanbu. How odd.

FracturedViewOfLife · 09/11/2013 20:13

He got car keys to unlock it? Prick!

WestieMamma · 09/11/2013 20:14

I think it's a complete violation of your privacy and personal space. YANBU at all. I'd be furious.

Topseyt · 09/11/2013 20:14

Of course he should not have done that. Why on earth could he not have washed his hands in the kitchen sink, or upstairs.

Bathroom door locks can be opened from the outside, but that is really intended only for use in an emergency. That was totally disrespectful. Is he always like that? If he is then he is an arse.

That is just wrong. There were other options so completely unnecessary. Tbh, i would do it back to see how he likes it.

EirikurNoromaour · 09/11/2013 20:15

What a fucking dickhead. I bet he steamrollers over your views, rights and privacy elsewhere in your lives doesn't he?
I am speechless that he went to find keys to open it with. Anyone who did that to me in my home would no longer be sharing it with me after that, I'm not exaggerating.

Dumpylump · 09/11/2013 20:15

What odd and tosserish behaviour. If anyone did this to me I would be furious.
