To wonder where this 'storm' is

5am we had a pathetic attempt at a thunderstorm, it's been a gorgeous day today only just started raining. I have torches, curtains and windows open ready to enjoy 'St Jude's' but nothing...why do we bother having a weather forecast!

Disclaimer: While I enjoy a few gusts and thunder and lightening I in no way want a huge storm that will affect others in any negative way*

Very windy in the south east, reports of a lot of road closures on local radio.

Madamecastafiore · 28/10/2013 07:21

Hitting us now in NE Essex. Huge tree at end of garden shedding branches and we at present have no power!!

pianodoodle · 28/10/2013 07:22

If I was still in Northern Ireland they would have called this a bit breezy and wet :(

harryhausen · 28/10/2013 07:22

I'm in the SW. A bit of wind and rain last night but nothing exceptional.

I keep hearing the SW bore the brunt last night.

pianodoodle · 28/10/2013 07:27

harry I'm in SW too it sounded a bit windy in the night but meh!

Possibly the plastic dog bowl has moved a bit in the night...

MaryPoppinsBag · 28/10/2013 07:32

I'm in East Devon on the coast and heard a little bit of wind at around 1.30am but it's calm now and the sun is coming out.

kungfupannda · 28/10/2013 07:36

I'm in Somerset and we had a bit of wind in the early hours, for maybe half an hour. The leaves are still on the trees, nothing's fallen over.

We had worse wind during a thunderstorm about 3 weeks ago.

Xiaoxiong · 28/10/2013 07:36

Well in East Berkshire as of 7.35am it's blue skies and sunshine. There are quite a few leaves on the pavement though. I might go so far as to call it leaf carnage.

kungfupannda · 28/10/2013 07:36

And we're pretty exposed where we are.

harryhausen · 28/10/2013 07:37

Grin Pianodoodle. I heard the window rattle once and there's a few more leaves in the garden but meh indeed.

It's weird when the news keeps telling you something momentous has happened in your area and it's as calm as a pond. I feel like I've missed something. Not that I'm complaining. I'm just not getting the news hype.

FreudiansSlipper · 28/10/2013 07:38

Car alarm woke me up about an hour ago and bins have blown over that is about as drastic as it gets here in se London

Good excuse to have a lie in and a lazy morning :)

WhereIsMyHat · 28/10/2013 07:41

Well, I was expecting nothing but our neighbours have a fence panel blown in and we have someone's shed roof felt. Woooo.

The planes ate going into he's throw regularly and TFL are running buses and tubes as if nothing has happened.

WhereIsMyHat · 28/10/2013 07:42

^heathrow!

peggyundercrackers · 28/10/2013 07:43

so a lot of hype about nothing... its all about sensationlist headlines nowadays, these weather people and news people need to get a grip - cant believe they have cancelled lots of trains and flights for that

juneau · 28/10/2013 07:46

Storm in a teacup here in W. Herts. All the trains are cancelled, so DH can't get to work (which doesn't exactly upset him!), but it's nowhere near as wet as last Sunday, when the rain was torrential. Neighbours have a couple of fence panels down, but that's it. Lot of fuss about nowt!

catsrus · 28/10/2013 07:52

It's not hype about nothing - I'm sitting here in the middle of it - a whole load of roof tiles off, fence panels down - local radio says we're about to get the worst of it - I can hear it picking up outside. I am really glad I took precautions and moved garden stuff indoors - turned the table upside down etc. Again, local radio says 100 + trees down, many blocking roads - of course trains are cancelled !

ShesEverSoFamous · 28/10/2013 07:54

I flew back to Edinburgh from Birmingham last night, some turbulence on the flight and when we were going through arrivals the airport staff were announcing cancellations to Heathrow etc, looks like we got out just in time.

Where are you catsrus?

MadeOfStarDust · 28/10/2013 07:58

In Gloucestershire.... spookily still now where we are, just general October weather last night, bit windy, bit wet..... can't see anything out of place..

WahIzzit · 28/10/2013 07:59

In the West Midlands here, bit wet and winds picked up a little but weather has been ok overnight from what I can see. Fences etc intact, forgot my patio broom outside which is still here!
Out the front side, have some debris of road works materials which were left over the weekend. Made a huge mess lets hope council picks it up.

Elfhame · 28/10/2013 08:00

We have had flooding, power loss and lots of trees down. We are on the South West coast.

I wouldn't advise anyone to go out in it if they can avoid it.

MrsOakenshield · 28/10/2013 08:01

40,000 homes without power, trees down and flooding. Yeah, sounds like nothing at all.

we're in SE London and the wind was battering the house for most of the night.

dappledawn · 28/10/2013 08:04

Not much cop over here in North Wilts - a bit loud and gusty around 5.30am, then just smaller intermittent gusts of wind with some quiet spells in between. No visible damage (looking out of the windows), but I haven't ventured outside yet. Seems like a major let-down here, as I got well prepared last night for power cuts etc - but I realise that others have been worse affected elsewhere. Wonder when 'normal' will return....
