from the daily mail:
(Poisonous and bitter even by LJ standards)

I find her articles such sad reading.

She's obviously miserable.

I'm a SAHM and all that means to me is that I feel extraordinarily lucky to have had the choice. I'm still me, I still have interests outside of our family life. I'm fortunate that I'm content with my life and my choices.

Everything she writes is filled with sadness. Maybe she wasn't lucky enough to have the choice to have children and then make her life decisions from there. Maybe if she had the chance to make those choices she wouldn't constantly be attacking those who have.

It's a shame for her.

HelloBoys · 28/10/2013 14:03

before anyone else comments.

Liz tends to say it like it is about fashion to the point of being barred from many runway shows.

she's an animal lover and has rescued many animals and cares for them.

she also stands strongly by and won't buy animal products - eg fur etc.

I do think she is taking a bit of a controversial stand re SAHMs and she also has other vitriolic posts. but she's not totally dislikeable.

I CANNOT STAND that Brick woman or Hopkins or Sibary. they all seem pointless and worthless.

at least Jones stands up for stuff she believes in.

mignonnette · 28/10/2013 14:17

The Jimmy Choo Biker Boots are made of leather though. As are her saddles. She condemns meat eaters yet uses slaughter house by products.

impty · 28/10/2013 14:39

Except the leather used for shoes, sofas, saddle etc, is very rarely a by product of the meat industry. They use different cows apparently, breed for their hide.

The fashion industry don't take her very seriously. She's barred because they dont need her, the DM is not anyone's style bible.

NewtRipley · 28/10/2013 14:40

Because she is notoriously self-hating and has sadly not had the opportunity to live the life she wanted. I feel sorry for her

NewtRipley · 28/10/2013 14:41

I think she should move completely away from journalism. It's a destructive use of her time when she could devote herself fully to the work she does with animals

mignonnette · 28/10/2013 14:50

I didn't know that Impty. I knew that high end leather craftspeople (Hermes etc) select specific hides but didn't know it was more widespread.

Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney have banned her because she bases her 'evaluation' of their fashion shows upon personal attacks that are often anti feminist and hate filled. I agree that high fashion doesn't need the DM nor its approval. They just don't want to be associated w/ her.

I agree she should go the Celia Hammond route w/ animals but she is so desperate to have the power to lash out at those people/institutions/conventions she perceives as having rejected her.

bundaberg · 28/10/2013 15:34

that makes it even worse! so the animals are slaughtered JUST for their skin and their meat isn't even used?

sorry, but vegans don't use leather. full stop. it's nothing to do with eating the meat.

mignonnette · 28/10/2013 15:50

I guess they must be Bund. I'm not sure and a bit Shock to google it.

impty · 28/10/2013 16:50

I was told by a cattle farmer. Cheaper leather is often from meat cattle. More expensive 'better' leather is not. This includes sofas, car seats high end bags boots and shoes.

I did a search and there seems to be some confusion about it but there are sites which agree with my farmer friend. I have no reason to doubt him but I'm not an expert.

Feel free to google and make up your own mind. I would be happy to be wrong on this!

impty · 28/10/2013 17:09

Just to clarify I'm not vegetarian/ vegan and I do wear leather. I was just shocked to be told that cows are breed for their hides.

Drywhiteplease · 28/10/2013 17:33

Just because she has had a sad life etc doesn't mean she is justified in making other people feel bad about their life choices.

NewtRipley · 28/10/2013 18:12

Drywhite

She doesn't make me feel bad because I realise it's all about her.

I accept more vulnerable or new mums might feel different though.

HelloBoys · 28/10/2013 22:17

Ms Jones won't do the Celia Hammond route as she obviously needs the money and has written candidly about being in debt and having longings for naice clothes.

I do feel awfully sorry for her being so bitter though. when she does write the odd (she does fashion every Monday) sane article she's actually quite good and not a bad critique say of events like Royal Christening to comment on outfits.

where she should STFU is on stuff like this and other controversial rants. but then the Fail love to goad people generally and go through phases of being Moany Minnies on various topics.

Caitlin17 · 29/10/2013 00:10

She's not worth bothering about. For me she's in the same category as Julie Burchill, Suzanne Moore, Julie Bindel and sadly these days Germaine Greer who mainly spout rubbish but occasionally have something sensible to say (although to be honest I'm struggling to recall anything from Suzanne Moore)

SwimmingUpstream · 29/10/2013 00:21

so who is LJ's new mysterious boyfriend then? is he a non famous person this time round?

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 29/10/2013 00:35

I worked at the same publishing company as her when she edited mc; she was respected for how she tried hard to make the mag more intelligent and hard-hitting (though the joke was: Bosnian rape victims - what are they wearing this season?

She was not seen as commercial enough - which I admired - but she was also seen as having anorexia issues and her planned 'use real women as models not super thin photoshopped models' campaign was dropped as she left.

I remember lunching next table to her at Oxo; she barely ate then wrote about how client lunches meant fasting and self punishment to atone - sad really.

It's all a bit of a car crash now and the DM are quite cruel in offering her up with all her self loathing writ large to be mocked and hated and pitied: no money is enough to be in her shoes. Columns are not therapy.

Mimishimi · 29/10/2013 01:08

I've realised the only time I regularly bought Marie Claire was when she was in charge of the magazine. It was the Australian version but most of the serious articles were from the UK magazine. Now it's just another Cosmo and I don't bother. I think one of the big mistakes all these magazines have made is to let advertising dominate over their content completely to the extent that if you get a magazine, you know exactly what sort of tedious articles you are going to get and which perfume ads you are going to see over and over. Think the last time I bought a fashion magazine was over a decade ago.

She tried to do good w/ Marie Claire.

I feel dissonant about criticising her on here because I am certain that she has serious mental health issues.

But these do not need to include being so vile about other women.

harticus · 29/10/2013 07:41

She is toxic.
Anyone who works for the Daily Mail is toxic.

DziezkoDisco · 29/10/2013 07:52

She is obviously not very well. Shame on the mail for using her.

Shonajoy · 29/10/2013 07:59

She always writes contentious posts as then she gets more comments. The mail then keep her on cos she's popular. I personally want to smack her- she's apparently in debt so buys clothes that cost people's monthly mortgage payments, has a facelift, is generally insecure and self obsessed, and one of the most incredibly annoying people I've ever come across.

monkeymamma · 29/10/2013 08:12

Am I the only one to find the article unintentionally hilarious? She gets paid to crank this stuff out, I think we are all taking it a tad too seriously tbh...
