So, today I saw a thread on here about the iPad air, released 1st nov. I have had the iPad 1 since the beginning, it is slow, clunky, and throws me out of various websites because you can't update it past iOS 5 and the technology is too old.

Last year we bought DS a 3 and then DD a 4th generation one. DH knows I love my iPad but it is coming to the end of its natural life. So today, after inspecting the Air online I text DH and said,if he was wondering what to get me for Xmas, Apple are bringing out this new iPad.

So tonight, after a beer or two, he tells me he has already bought me an iPad for Xmas, not only that, he has had it inscribed with my name love from....

So, I am very grateful that he has thought about it and ordered me something that he knows I would like for Xmas, but I am the tinsiest bit disappointed that it's not quite what I actually want, in fact the same as DDs gift last year. He actually has his head in his hands as he thought he'd done so well and now I've spoiled it ( only by suggesting something when he'd already bought something.)

So, is he BU for buying the Xmas gift so early or AIBU to be a bit gutted and should I say no more and just smile on Xmas day? Yes I know- smile- but.... Bugger!

Ahh bless you OP, it's the kind of mistake I would do so totally feeling your pain!

I clicked on it originally thinking it was an aid appeal for a war torn country in sub-Saharan Africa...

I know what you mean OP.
If DH spends a lot on something I don't want I get privately irritated because it feels like a waste.

DamnBamboo. That is pretty unnecessary.

If we are only allowed one iPad per household am I not allowed it during the day when dh has his at work? Should I get rid of one of the dogs too.

Pagwatch · 26/10/2013 12:29

The 'OMG - how many electronic devices' stuff is utter guff.

DowntonTrout · 27/10/2013 08:18

I'm not behaving like anything Confused

It's just a shame that he's spent £600 or whatever on one when a couple of weeks later he could have got the newest one for the same price. Becausei travel a lot the fact that it's an "air" so really light would have been a big bonus. Plus it has the A7 processor.

That is not about one upmanship or anything else really. The 4 will be cheaper next week, so it's just a waste of £100. He had my iPad 1 engraved, and did the same with iPods etc because he thinks it's nice to personalise them. He doesn't think about when I might want get rid of it by selling it on eBay. Why would he? It's a gift.

I have to add, OP, that I read your first post wrong and when you mentioned "3" and "4" (referring to the iPad version) I actually thought you were talking about your childrens ages!

Which is why I said I think you have too many iPads in a house and was surprised you don't have 1 between the children for them to share! (As I was thinking they are only 3 and 4 years old!!!)

Just seen your other post saying that they are both grown up so... Sorry! I take it back! Grin

Some people will probably now say its fine for young children aged 3 and 4 to have their own iPads as well Hmm whatever!

AnyCoffeeFucker · 27/10/2013 15:40

It was a bit daft of him - he could have got a better one for the same money by waiting a bit. Or this one cheaper.

AnyCoffeeFucker · 27/10/2013 15:41

But I would graciously accept anyway. :)
