To keep ending messages with a x

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 24/10/2013 11:12

I know I am! This is not netmums ffs. Please knock some sense into me. It seems it's a new thing that's developing, I've only ever ended messages to my husband with a x before now it seems I'm doing it on a public forum!

I do it but only when responding to someone who is upset or going through a really tough time and just needs some TLC.

gordyslovesheep · 24/10/2013 11:18

I do it - it's some kind of involuntary habit - it even annoys me Grin

starsandunicorns · 24/10/2013 11:19

I do if the op is upset in rl I only do with dp however on the phone a few days a lqdy from dhl called and said thanks stars love bye Grin

NotYoMomma · 24/10/2013 11:20

I tend to do it when I know I am being a bit of a twat but want to make it ever so slightly less twattish.

then I look like an even bigger twat for being so pa

starsandunicorns · 24/10/2013 11:20

Love you bye *

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 24/10/2013 15:17

Yes to the involuntary habit. It's driving me crazy!

I do it a lot on here but only when I am trying to be nice to the OP.

mrsjay · 24/10/2013 16:02

och it is nice isn't it stop being a grumpy arse or i will hug you x Grin

mattsmadmum · 24/10/2013 16:05

i do it all the time x

Tanfastic · 24/10/2013 16:11

I always feel uncomfortable doing it to anyone bar family. I get emails from female colleagues who put kisses, I don't know why but it makes me bristle.....I've left you this file to deal with xx.....Confused

Tanfastic · 24/10/2013 16:12

And people who comment on your status update on Facebook and put a kiss. Then I reply and don't and feel guilty Grin

Youhaventseenme · 24/10/2013 16:16

I ended a very strident email to the Clarinet teacher with xxx. I fear I may have lost the moral high ground. Grin

Tanfastic · 24/10/2013 16:19

I don't do it as a rule as I'm always worried that if it becomes a habit I may send my male boss an email with a kiss Hmm

thingamywotsita · 24/10/2013 16:44

I had to do a Tannoy announcement at work for the first time, inviting shoppers over to our department. it all went terribly well until the end, where I panicked didn't know how to finish and said "ok, thanks bubbye" cringe.

EldritchCleavage · 24/10/2013 16:50

If you continue, I'm going to reply with W.I.O. ('wiped it off').

mrsjay · 24/10/2013 17:01

I wrote a sick note into school and ended it with an X i was Blush but i did it as she was going out the door and didn't have time to do another

ercoldesk · 24/10/2013 17:02

My autocorrect does it after my name. Always. x

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 24/10/2013 17:34

thing whare I used to work i had to train people on how to do tannoy announcements. It always amused me no matter how many times i told them what to say, how to do it and showed them, the first time people would always panic and do things like that! I think it was because suddenly they could hear themselves and didn't like it!

I always end my messages with kisses. xx

VoiceofRaisin · 24/10/2013 19:11

I just got a written apology from the British Gas salesman who ended his quotation for a replacement boiler to me with a "x". He went into a long explanation about how he does a lot of emails to the girl in the office, how they have worked together for 20 years and are on friendly terms etc. I hadn't actually noticed and found it rather sweet.

Perhaps it should be mandatory for all messages to end with kisses x

Icelollycraving · 24/10/2013 19:11

I generally end a text with a x,but found it v odd in my last job that company emails etc would all end with kisses. Freaks.

MillyRules · 24/10/2013 19:14

Well I think its sweet when someone needs a "huggy kiss " type thing but I always stop myself from doing it cause this is Mumsnet after all. Stiff upper lip and all that ( I think)

RhondaJean · 24/10/2013 19:21

Icelollycraving · 24/10/2013 19:40

I occasionally do it on mn,when someone is very upset. I think it shows a certain kindness to someone who is having a tough time.

honeybeeridiculous · 24/10/2013 19:48

Not quite the same but very embarrassing, my DS and his footy coach have the same name, so both next to each other on my phone, DS was next door at his mates and it was getting late so I txt him (or what I thought was him! [embarrassed] ) " i think it's time for bed now please xxx" as soon as I pressed send I knew I'd sent it to the wrong person, I couldn't look him in the eye at the next match, and he never mentioned it Shock
